So, aside from the general OMGWTFBBQ! of having a trans kid (okay, young adult, they are 19 now but still my kid) in today's 'Merica, in the past couple weeks, I have had my job disappeared because the school fucked around and didn't renew the grant that paid me, too bad so sad, we're just not going to have a 'biology/anatomy/all the other science and math stuff I tutor' person anymore, thanks and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Yesterday my car decided that it didn't like oil anymore, because that is apparently a known flaw in Kias, and now I have to get a new engine. The li'l Blue Boy made a cool sound before it said "fuck this" though. The dealership said it will be 10 days before they can run the diagnostic, (and the guy was not amused when I said "The diagnostic is it sounds like monkeys banging pots and pans under the hood, my man!") and it will be two to three months before they can get the new engine installed because Reasons. So I either pay to tow the car to the dealer where it will languish for months, or I just get a new car. Le sigh. We were out and about on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday, so at least the car didn't go "KNOCK KNOCK CLANG RATTLE BUMP SQUEAK KNOCK SQUEAK SQUEAK RATTLE jump jump jump" up there.

Also, my spawn is having top surgery on Monday, and he is most blasé about it, but I'm mildly freaking out because, you know, major surgery.

So, tell me something good, because the FML is strong with this one right now. IMG_20230821_113929_971.thumb.jpg.da106b1fd301016c716b618c54929c71.jpg

Ice cream is always a win.

Also, the best thing about the job going *poof* is that I took the summer off because mountains and waterfalls, and my boss who said things like "I can't imagine how the Learning Center would function without you, so can you come back a week before classes start because you'll make sure we're ready to go on day one?" [an actual quote, because I not only did 1-on-1 and group tutoring for all the science and math things, was the only tutor for the lab tech classes and astronomy and geology and fucking French, but I also supervised 6 part time tutors and did admin crap and trained our new hires and worked with instructors to make sure tutors kept up with class syllabi] let me know the job was going away by emailing me. Didn't even have the nads to call or meet face to face with me. I went from "what'll we do without youuuuuuu never leave" to "lol bye here's two lines of email cuz we just didn't submit the grant renewal in time and now the money is gone"  BUT I'M NOT BITTER.

Sending good juju for surgery and UGH on cars. I drove all summer without AC because they said mine was about to do what happened to you until I could get a seal on the engine replaced and I needed to drive gently and without pushing it and I might make it by the time the guy can do it and I can get it scheduled. They're going to give me a rental at $25.00 a day. I am hard on cars. But my love for Toyotas continues because honestly it's only going to be three days instead of months like your Kia for the repair.

My pephew had the top surgery. I was the only supportive family member who was there for him besides his dad and mom. They actually were on Ricki Lake to talk about it way back in the day over 10 years ago.
