Darth Krawlie
Luckily we had just gotten a decent sized check from my parents, who got a much larger inheritance. We paid off some debts and were gonna hold on to the rest for a vacation and other things, but, well, it's all for a car now.
Tank
Test drove a jeep today... was bored... also, while I get their utilitarian style, I guess I was expecting more of a quality interior and comfort. I love the exterior, but it wasn’t as fun or comfortable as I wanted. Also, no dealership in LA has a manual transmission. I’m annoyed. I can’t find anything that looks different from most other cars, has an upscale interior, comes in manual, and isn’t overpriced. I can check some of those boxes on a few different cars, but not many. Why do all cars look alike now? Why are they so ugly? Even fancy cars are a giant grid of plastic and fake chrome in the front. Such a bummer. Ms. Spam
A truck! Find an old truck, Driver! OMG you would look fantastic in a four on the floor redone Chevy pickup. And then buy a secret commuter car and just tell people you rented it. HAHA! Stick shifts are dying. You'd probably have to go to an older car to get a fun stick easily. zambingo
I do not have much I can add here, because I do not drive. However my wifes favorite vehicles are tied between a Ford Escape, a Dodge Journey, and a Mini Cooper Convertible VW Beetle convertible. All her vehicles have been automatic. She has driven: listed in order driven /or owned(indicates model year range) Dodge Daytona (mid 90s)Saab 900 (mid 90s)Ford Escort (early 00s)Jeep Cherokee (late 90s)Dodge Aries Station Wagon (late 80s)Honda Accord (late 90s)*Pontiac Grand Am (early 00s)Kia Spectra (early 00s)Ford Escape (mid 00s)Dodge Caravan (early 00s)Dodge Journey (late 00s)Dodge Grand Caravan (mid 10s)Mini Cooper Convertible (late 10s)VW Beetle convertible (late 10s) *Less than 24 hours after the purchase of this vehicle in the early 2000s, I rolled it down a ditch/hill area near Tanacross, Alaska. No alcohol or drugs involved and thankfully no injuries, but I havent driven since. I have been in several major car accidents in my life, but I was the driver for only that one. I figured maybe the universe was trying to tell me something. Correction: My wife called me a doofus for thinking she was driving a Mini Cooper when she was driving a VW Beetle convertible. lol I also forgot we owned a Kia. Tank
I have def thought about a rehabbed old car-- but they don't all have AC (needed in SoCal) and upkeep might be an issue. Maybe I should just embrace my inner douche and get a Challenger.
Guest El Chalupacabra
I have def thought about a rehabbed old car-- but they don't all have AC (needed in SoCal) and upkeep might be an issue. Maybe I should just embrace my inner douche and get a Challenger.Nothing wrong with a Challenger and nothing douchy about a nice ride, as long as one doesn't act (or drive) like a douche because of said car. The v6 Challengers are damn near as fast as my 350 v8 Nova. The base to mid v8 challengers, which are right about 375-400 HP at the wheel (depending on package), destroy my Nova, and Challengers are bigger and heavier. Modern Challengers, Mustangs, and Camaros have the creature comforts of Lincolns, with more power than classic muscle cars. I'm kinda partial to the Chrysler 300s myself, which basically are Challengers and Chargers with different skin. But somehow, I want to say a Munster-style T-bucket kit car would suit you fine! But forget it as a daily driver, though.
Odine
A friend of mine had a late 60s Dodge Dart that he had refurbished and suped up a bit. It was black and ****ing cooooooooool. But my mate was a bit of a dick and could never resist doing burnouts as he peeled away out the front of the shop.
D-Ray Kenobi
The wife's new ride we got a few weeks ago, I swipe the keys for it when I can. This is the first time we've had a nicer or European car, we're spoiled now.

Tank
Forgot to update this... but I ended up getting a Jeep. I was able to track down a higher end version, bigger engine, more luxury, and thankfully-- a manual transmission. Love it, bought it, already planning how I'll customize it. Odine
Spiked wheels, razor wire on the bull bars, armour plating on the doors, that sort of thing right? For the zombiepocalypse
Tank
A guy down the road for me did his jeep zombie apocalypse chic--it was fun the first time I saw it, but after awhile you start to think he's a tool. I'm going for more of a Moonbase Luxury Rover thing.
zambingo
One of my dream cars is a bright yellow Jeep Wrangler, hard top, with roll bars etc. Basically kitted for the Alaskan backwoods.
Tank
I always wondered what kind of person would CHOOSE to have a yellow car. Now I see.

zambingo
An aside: I know you said youre into car shows too, Tank. Have you checked out Comedians in Cars getting Coffee on Netflix? Not every episode is gold, but I have enjoyed so many of those chats and the cars are neat. Also The Grand Tour on Prime is a favorite of mine going back to when they were Top Gear. Also, just put a custom grill on my Jeep. They are pretty much like Legos on the outside. It's a machine that's trail-rated, has roll bars, and is pretty indestructible, and the exterior pieces just snap on and off. Even the doors. In about 30 minutes I can go from a luxury SUV to a classic topless, doorless, off-road machine. Cause you know-- with all the off-roading I do. The Kurgan
I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, and I'll tell you if you put a turret on the damn thing it would have survived the battle of Kursk. Besides use to and from work, the damn thing has gotten my family and I from Calgary to Midland, Ontario (about an hour or so out of Toronto) - a trip of 3300 km or approximately 2000 miles each way - seven times. While it's needed some moderately costly servicing and repairs, the damn thing runs like a top. Rust will finally kill it, I think, but it's still got some years left in it.
