Stick em itself couldn't be used because it left a residue in the ball that was noticeable. There were alternatives that didn't leave a mess. Have you even worn those fancy gloves with the logos on them? You pretty much have to fumble or juggle the ball when catching it, because it isn't slipping through your hands easily.
