  1. Man-- i didn't mean to get TP excommunicated!

Looking into it a bit further-- the NTSC to PAL transfer does create SOME artifacts, especially when things are in motion, but come UKLK.. those things in father's day weren't very good fx! At least not compared to anything I have seen on BSG for example...

but don't get me wrong-- I like the show!

  2. Oh I totally enjoy it-- I just keep reading how people talk about how the fx work is amazing... and it isn't! Keep in mind I have only seen half of Eccelson's run thus far, but the CG is bad, the monsters are usually hokey rubber suits, and the general quality of the image is very low-quality video looking.

Granted, some of these things might be asthetic to connect it to vinatge WHO, but compared to shows like BSG, Firefly or Trek it just looks really low budget. I love ths hw don't get me wrong, but it's visuals-- everything from fx to lighting and cinematography just looks lame.

Is it cause the BBC really has limited budgets? After 50 years of television can't the UK come up with a better way to run things?

Is it cause there aren't any good FX houses or film crews in the UK? Is there American superiority with this? I'd hope not...

Or is it just cause transferring PAL things to NTSC is mucking it up and heightening the flaws?

  3. I remmeber the Fox thing-- it failed here, but they love dit in the UK, and he is considered canonically the 8th Doctor!

And yeah I saw the Americna Red Dwarf and it blew.

I'm just saying it's a possibility whether you like it or not. TONMS of American shows are remakes from UK TV.

I agree that Dr. Who is inherently Britishy, if America did it, it would be a very different format. The TV movie Fox did was trying to tie into the existing Franchise with Americaan sensibilities and it was a bad mix.. plus it was just a lame story. I'm talking about a ground-up remake, like BSG. Not ties to the original series beyond basic concept.

  4. New Series has 14 episodes, and it is the 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccelson. he decided to leave the show though, and the last episode of the season show him regenerating into the 10th doctor, David Tenant. Tenant is in a fair amount of the episode, and will start in the new seson later this year.

    Episode guide here:
