  1. Feige has said this isn't happening in the movies, and neither is Falcon becoming Captain America. That tells me that these changes are temporary. To me, the questions are: 1) how to best utilize them if you know going in that they are placeholders; and 2) how to make the originals matter more when transitioning back to them.

Back to the movies and how this affects them. Evans and Hemsworth are still signed on for two more movies each that haven't even started shooting yet (at the least, if they don't re-up either of them...however unlikely or otherwise). Would this really be anything other than temporary when they have Captain America 3, Thor 3, Avengers 3 still to shoot and Avengers 2 less than a year away from release? Turning somebody else into Thor could be confusing to some of the audience, inn such a way that could have a negative impact on their attempts to promote his next two appearances. Cap? Whoa. Yes, a rumored passing of the mantle. But to Falcon instead of Bucky? But what about the nine picture deal signed by Sebastian Stan? Eight more pictures as the Winter Soldier? Some as Cap, and then Falcon takes the mantle? Does Steve get it back first? Or do the movies deviate?

That's too many potential questions. And with so many disenchanted viewers questioning the deliberate changes Fox is making, and how Marvel has responded in print and marketing to Fox, my guess is that we could see things swing back to pre-Avengers Now before too long so they don't rock the boat too much in their cinematic universe.

  2. So...I heard Lupita Nyong'o and Adam Driver are assassins, possibly dark side weilders, and an elder and physically exhausted Luke has been chasing them or them chasing him. And something about resurrecting a powerful Sith...Max Von Sydow?

    I'm okay with all this.

  3. Admittedly I have been a lot more critical of Wade in the last several years because 1) I feel he flops a lot, and complains a lot to the refs about calls not going his way - this is something I absolutely HATED about MJ too. Don't sit there and talk to the refs during every dead ball for the next five minutes about why you got called for a foul down. 2) Big fan of Dirk, and I hated the mocking of him being sick in the finals. I felt that was above Wade, and I expected more from him. That incident kind of opened my eyes to the aforementioned problem I have with his complaining.

That said, he's still got it sometimes. Clearly not like he did with Shaq and their title run, but he can still play...sometimes. Great point about his outside game. He's kind of useless when defense clamps down because of that, and slightly above average defenders don't allow him to create anything off the dribble either.

  4. Shame we're already taking the story from the Spurs (not that the Spurs mind, I'm sure). That's a freaking great basketball team that may well have found a way to win that game anyway

what i like about this is that it was equal. Both teams had to play in the same conditions. One just managed to keep their team more hydrated than the other. But what a great way to start. There were turn overs galore from both teams.

Glad to see this mentality here @ Nightly. Social media is...(shudders)...an awful place, right now. I follow lots of websites on Facebook. It's an easy way to collect subject matter of my choosing and pool all the contributions to their websites that they share on their respective Facebook feeds. But my God - there are some idiots out there on Facebook, and the cries of air conditioning conspiracy are just...well, lol. To suggest that SA was in any better position to withstand playing in those conditions than MIA baffles me. And to not recognize how good of a job SA did weathering the Miami run? Come on. I know I had questions about the handling of the shot clock and some of the calls in the POR/HOU series. But to suggest 1) somebody did something that hurt both teams just with the outside shot that it might hurt the visiting team just a little bit more, or 2) that the air conditioning somehow only affected Miami? Ugh.

You can really tell watching a few players from both teams how having depth throughout the season and being able to rest certain stars that aren't so young anymore can really pay off. Met you and I have argued back and forth about Wade still having it or not still having it. Clearly if he has adequate rest, he still has it. So does Manu.

I really hope the refs just let these guys play for the rest of the series.

  5. That is so Goddamn ****ed up. And what a spineless ****ing troll to do this and not fess up. It's unfortunate that we still have people here @ Nightly that are that ****ing immature.

Anyway, Petra...I need to send you your trophy.

Yes it absolutely sucks that UK didn't get his turns with it. We communicated back and forth about it many times. Money was short for me in 2012 because I was still waiting tables, and shipping that trophy to the UK @ $2.13 plus tips while trying to pay for various odds and ends regarding a wedding and the weekend after just wasn't going to be easy. So we had an understanding there. The following year, it was just one issue after another. Mostly for me, not being able to get enough time off from work to even get to a USPS lobby before closing time (working 65-70 hrs per week at that time).

  6. The big rumor is that genetic tampering via the serum derived from the Kree is how super powers and mutant powers will be explained in non-Xmen movie continuity, like Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch, since he term "mutant" cannot be used. Skye may also turn out to be Carol Danvers, which means Ms. Marvel now that she has had the serum used on her.

Things may get interesting now that 1) SHIELD knows that Coulson knows, and 2) Winter Soldier fallout.

  7. Every website ever is reporting that Abrams is looking to lean as far from the "heavily Caucasian" casting of the first six movies as possible. First thing I thought of was Lando. But anyway, that's his aim.As long as he makes sure the best actor for the respective roles is selected, and that's his most important criteria, then that's cool.

That said, the name Lupita Nyong'o is popping up today. I didn't see the movie that she did so well in. Somebody give the 411 if you would please, and what kind of role would she fit well into?

  8. Isaacs as Doom would be awesome!

And Johnny Storm/white bread in the same sentence in this context and I just died laughing.

While we're at it though, maybe Brad Pitt can play Black Panther. He's a great actor. He could bring a lot to the character.

    :unimpressed:

  9. I don't like it, but I won't crucify it before seeing it. Putting this choice of ultimate vs classic together with Dicksilver from DoFP, and Beast apparently becoming Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde in DoFP, not to mention the Green Goblin pics that came out this week, I'm just baffled by what's going on @ Fox.

  10. There were Rondo to Houston rumors. Not just ESPN columnists wish list selections, but actual talks. Seemed dead at first because Boston wanted Parsons and Houston said no. Then a local rumor suggested Asik/Lin for Rondo, which either a trade exception or a draft pick mixed in there somewhere. But alas, no deal. Talk radio contends that while the trade isn't necessary for Houston to contend for a title right now, they may re-explore this idea in the summer with a different approach. So they may be patient like they were with Howard, let the world naysay the notion of it happening, then score the payoff by persisting.
