Happy 4th of July...I am moving to Canada

Recommended Posts

Well, I might be joining y'all in the Pacific Northwest and moving to Vancouver, BC.  Between the Supreme Court's rulings, many Repubs believing combating "wokeness" should be the top party platform, how the US treats the environment, and gun culture I don't want to be here anymore.

My wife wants to live near the ocean and I want to live near the mountains and within an hour or two of a major ski resort.

I already started my paperwork to start applying jobs next spring.  I doubt I will get a job the first year trying, so I might as well start trying now.

A happy Independence Day to all who celebrate and bienvenue au Canada to all immigrants — although, uh, the rot is kind of here as well, I don’t think we’ll really escape the fate of our neighbours, still probably the best of all available options to those who can take it — and, I don’t know, G-d save the Queen King!?!? What!?!? Have you heard about this? She died!!!1!

Yeah--I get it.  You can never truly escape.  If anything, I hate the heat.  With global warming it is only getting hotter so I might aw well get out while the getting is good.

I’ve talked with software engineers that have left Canada, because the price of rent was too expensive and the same job they did in Canada, paid about a third of what he was getting paid in the US. Messed up pay system in Canada.

I think you maybe surprised by how quick you may get a job offer. I don't know if I would want to move somewhere that expensive though even with the ocean. My dream retirement has me moving to Savannah GA. LOL

Make sure you get a place with air conditioning or plan on getting it installed soon after. It has definitely gotten hotter out here and most places do not have air conditioning because it "wasn't necessary". Now HVAC companies have more business than they know what to do with.

My husband asked me this week where I want to retire. I said not here. I thought about it and if we weren't so well established here, I'd look outside of the US. Maybe Europe. I'm tired of corporate America and how stupid we are.

What keeps me here at this point is the kids, because it sounds like the rest of the world is actually a little behind the curve on ADHD. Which is sad because it ain't great here, either.

Cost of living in Vancouver is similar to Denver and actually less than Durango.  I would actually make more as well if I went to a district.  Private/ charter schools pay less more often than not because they have fewer students to offset similar costs.

That’s what we heard when we moved here.  I bought an AC unit within a week.  I like it cold.

I thought about going international, but being close to skiing is too important to me and all those international gigs near ski resorts are almost impossible to land.

We've been talking about moving out of Texas. We're not going anywhere as long as my grandparents are all still alive, so we've got a few years yet. My sister and BIL are looking at buying a large tract of land in Colorado, and we might do something like build on a small part of it.

If that doesn't happen, we've talked about heading to the NW.

I grew up in Montana and I have a lot of family up there.

I'd like to eventually sell the house in Texas and move to the Flathead county area up there. Unfortunately, the price of property in that area has skyrocketed.
