Diets suck

Yeah--Walker Tracker is an app we can have a walking team.  It is cross platform--iPhone-Andriod-fitbit-whatever so we can all do it.  So looking at the two apps...I like Walker Tracker, but it does not sync your steps like Social Steps does.  Anyone else look at the two apps and have a preference?

On 60 Minutes last night they had a couple of doctors stating that fat genes are 60% why we're obese and that there's a set point for fat storage that our bodies want to be set at. So apparently my body wants to store a larger amount of fat. There is a super expensive drug you can take that helps kinda trick your body to store less fat and change it's baseline.

My BFF got prescribed Ozempic a few years ago and is now a size 4, down from a 14. My doctor is too uptight because I'm not fat ENOUGH and my blood sugar is awesome. But now they're having shortages because it's over-prescribed for weight loss (but clearly it works, soooo...).

I have heard a lot about this.  Don't you have to have diabetes to get this?

You sure it doesn't sync?

Walker Tracker was syncing but you have to manually tell it to sync each time you go to the app...but I think I figured it out.  I like it!

I am the same weight when I started break--which was my goal.  I haven't been able to get to the gym much over break.  Time is my biggest issue so to help get in and out of the gym faster I am going to do Strong Lifts 5x5 program.  I want to go heavier so I think I am going to do 3x5.  I got the app to help.

I felt so bad today I had to eat something. I don't know if I'm under counting my portions or what. I'm not weighing but I tend to use volume measurements. I woke up super hungry and could not get that awful gnawing feeling to go away the entire day. Finally when I got home I ate a handful of almonds and then saw we had some apple pie left and ate that slice. Had a small bit of spaghetti for dinner and some meatballs for the protein. I feel a heck of a lot better. For breakfast I had eggs and a banana, chicken noodle soup for lunch, 10 carrots and half a hummus packet, and a prepackaged protein shake. So it's not like I'm starving myself but I felt like absolute crap.

I keep going to different specialists trying to fix my oogles of health issues, and as of Thursday, I'm not allowed to eat/drink: apples, apple juice, carbonation, chocolate, citrus fruits, cranberries, grapes, mayonnaise, peaches, pineapple, plums, strawberries, tea, tomatoes, vinegar, or vitamin B complex. That's half of my weekly grocery shopping list. So this should be fun.

Wow--those are all my favorites.  My problem is I don't know what to make if you take those items away.  We joined Daily Harvest because of my wife's dietary restrictions because we were sick of making the shit over and over again.

So I had a blood test to see if I can use that Wegovy shot.  Hopefully, if I am deemed pre-diabetic , I can get insurance to pay for a chunk.

I've been thinking of checking this out too.

Could you please tell me more about a Wegovy shot?  I AM pre-diabetic and wonder if something like that would help me.   Thank you!

The possible side effects of semaglutide injections look pretty damn horrible. If you're gonna get on it I'd seriously think about the risk versus reward if it's right for you.

I've heard that some of the weight loss includes loss of muscle mass, bone density, and connective tissue. But a cursory Google I can't find any articles about that but ya know..pharma are going to surpress that so you might have to dig to find those results/articles.

I can't find anything about the connective tissue loss but here is a breakdown of the negative risks, just to balance the annectdotal success stories/sponsored hype:

All that said, if you're over 30-35% body fat it might be worth it. But if you're looking to cut a few pounds I'd say stay away

I tried to read up a few things about semaglutide on some bodybuilding forums (cause there are big time pharma nerds in that community). From their reports semaglutide seems to work differently than other appetite suppressants in that it uses specific pathways and hormone regulation so surpress hunger rather than simply masking it like other 'surpressors'. In other words it's the nuclear option for appetite suppressants, not to be taken lightly. Think of it as a pharmacological/seriousness  equivalent of taking anabolic steroids only for totally different purposes, obviously.
