Booze, edibles, pills, and Rogaine

Recommended Posts

I have always had sleeping issues as long as I can remember.  My mind just races about bullshit.  From an early age, like 7 or so, I listened to late night radio....from Royals games to Art Bell to now podcasts.  I have always needed something to focus on.  In my early 20's I stepped up my game and added in sleeping pills. Starting In my late 30's, if I took sleeping pills too many nights in a row it made me feel like I had to pee all the time.  I stopped sleeping pills and traded it out for a drink or two a night.  Well, my tolerance went up and I was drinking a lot and every now and again I accidentally got drunk.  I tried edibles once and ended up eating a whole box of granola bars--I never did dabble in any substances past booze for similar reasons.

So now I rotate between sleeping pills and booze to keep my tolerance for each in check.  Generally speaking, I now need one or the other a few times a week to fall asleep.

I am on Amazon auto delivery for: Rogaine, anti-wrinkle face cream and eye cream, and what prompted this post was adding Just for Men Light Brown to my subscriptions.  I do this not out of vanity, but rather because I am terrified of death and any new wrinkle or patch of gray hair stresses me out.

I was never a huge coffee drinker but at work I am starting to drink coffee...I am sure this will slowly get out of control this year.

Anyone else need shit just to get through a normal day?

This is why I call bullshit on most vampire stories. You’re telling me a guy older than my grandpa loves a teenage girl? I spend 10 minutes with one and want to die.

Notice the beard which hides my chin fat and the lotion I put in my hair to make it look less gray.

I’m incredibly high maintenance in my body care routines. I don’t even care anymore. This is how my face looks.

Coffee for sure. I'll have 3 cups before 10am most days. But that's not cause I'd fail if I didn't, I just really like the buzz, pinging about just below the ceiling.

Its not things, but I need a lot of sleep and always have. In college I got 8-9 hours of sleep a night, while most of my friends functioned on 5-6. People comment that I am very high energy (honestly, I'm starting to think I'm undiagnosed ADHD-hyperactive/impulsive), but I need 7-8 hours of sleep to function or I am super irritable, and I have definitely been operating on less sleep as of late (still 6-7 hours, but that's low for me). Coffee and/or tea do help me wake up in the mornings, so that's probably more physical things I need.

I also sleep like shit if I have too much booze.

I can't stick with a beauty routine. I'd like to not look old but I just really don't care enough. I love face masks to relax but I always fall off the bandwagon after 1-2 weeks. For awhile I was dyeing my gray hair every 6-8 weeks but once COVID set in, I've dyed once since February 2020.

Re: the not out of vanity explanation

Make sure to resist those snide remarks from others that could fuel or feed insecurity about using deaging or personal care products. Using hair dye, hair growth, wrinkle creams, make up, whatever have zero to do with your worth as a person or as a male.

In short, you do you.

I can't wait to be more grizzled. In my 20s I was doughy and awkward. I much prefer being on my way to silver fox-dom. I am blessed with pretty good genes in that I look young and have a full head of hair, but I love how gray my beard is getting. I'm respectable damn it.

All that said, I have upped my skin care regimen for sure-- sunblock, facial masks, scrubs, etc.

I’m also more salt than pepper now, beard hair wise. My head hair is still managing to hide most of the salt, unless my hair is blown by the wind or fingers are run thru it. It’s like the top layers of hair are youthful, but the bottom layers are all silver. Beard wise I think I have a year or two before it is all white and I’ll have to decide whether to shave it to fight off the old man look or keep it and give into being Santa.

In regards to being Santa, fuck 2020. I used to be able to manage my weight with walks and push ups (to keep my arms tight at least). For years I was able to stay in that good enough for a dad look. Less than the ‘stereotypical dad bod’, but more chubby than the ‘like wow do you work out’ look. However after 2020 I have a full on Santa belly. Guess I should have stopped drinking beer during the pandemic so as to offset the activity dip, or at least just have stuck to hard liquor… no calories in that am I rite? lol

Afterthought: For those of us in our 40s… Patrick Stewart was 47 in season one of The Next Generation. He was cast as the old, seen it all explorer at 47. Oh certainly his look helped sell being older, but he was only 47. 47 with the body of an athlete. Gawd damn. lol

I, for one, hate having a beard. Some people look good with one, but I am not one of them.  I can just grow a salt and pepper goatee (more salt these days) with patches of fur here and there on my sides, so I just shave it all.  I generally keep my hair pretty short, which combined with having lighter colored hair, hides gray hair.  I am a mess, that is for sure, but at least I look youngish for my age.

I’m on meds that have the side effect of knocking me out. I actually need to change to something else but I just paid $120 for a 90 day supply and I don’t want to just throw that away. Plus the meds I’m on are prescribed by a psychiatrist I can see online, and the stuff he says I should change to requires in-person treatment and since I’m not addicted to anything, it’s almost impossible to find a psychiatrist in Columbus. Everyone specializes in kids or addiction.

As for getting older, my beard is well on the way to being pure white, and it’s progressing quickly now. I except to be Santa within a year, and my chest hair is definitely a mix. Hair on top is still dark though. I wish it had some more gray/white. I’m okay with getting older but the disconnect between my beard and head is crazy. I’m more likely to try to add gray than to dye the beard, though.

With my health problems, I should’ve died a long time ago, so death isn’t scary at all. I mean, honestly, there have been half a dozen times just in the past two years that I thought I was dying.  Death is like an old friend that’s been hanging around so long that eventually we’ll just hang out for good.

I am full on grey. Like nine more grey hairs sprout and I get chinny chin chin hairs now. I also find my hair is super thinning. But I don't care about my appearance as much. For my sister she's had three meltdowns just trying to get her picture taken to get the handicapped bus pass. I think the pandemic has kinda helped with how we feel or don't feel about our personal selves. HA! I see a lot of hibernated "bears".

For me I need a walk every day. At least thirty minutes where I don't have anyone or anything to think about. I have to have that. Or my stress levels get higher.

I need to have my cats but honestly they probably add to the stress but if one is missing I feel off and wake up multiple times to make sure they're okay.

I drink eleventy billion cups of coffee. No kuerigs Brewed Mr Coffee coffee por favor. But that ages you and your teeth stain.

Oh yeah I have to have coffee to wake my tired ass up, and some meds that numb me out so I can continue to keep my job without flipping out.

I go through periods where I have alot of trouble sleeping and others where I sleep like a baby. Ive never taken any kind of sleep aid. Im a bit paranoid of dependence. Ive always been a great morning person, although as I get older Im losing that just a tad. I've never drank a cup of coffee in my life.

Without trying to trivialise anything, I just totally thought if Michael Douglass in Falling Down reading that.

More tired. I need a nap. The picture actually hides a lot of the gray though. It’s gone from all dark to mostly gray in a year. But I’m okay with it.

Not okay with the fat though. But the big beard hides some of it. Makes my face look a little less round.

I can't grow a beard, it is all patchy and it looks like I just have a dirty face.  I had a goatee for a few years (because I had a baby face and when I taught high school, I looked younger than students).  Also, when I do grow it out, my beard is totally red like a ginger.

So to connecting this thread to Tank's relationship thread, I read that Tank is going on getaway for an alternative lifestyle.  Are there any supplements you will be taking to help make the most of the getaway?

Cocaine, creatine and Cialis.

LOL....

When/ if I become elderly and start becoming a burden on others, I am going all in on recreational drugs.  I hope to die in my late 80s of a vodka, oxycotin, morphine overdose.  Let's be real though...I am totally a candidate for a exit in my mid-70s from heart disease.
