Music that changed genre with age

Recommended Posts

I’m listening to the album Scarecrow by John Cougar Mellencamp, and it was obviously a rock album when it came out, but it’s also definitely one of the best country albums of all time, listening to it now. Both genres changed enough that the bluesy small town music is now country.

Can anyone think of any other similar examples?

When the Ramona came out they were one of the fastest bands in existence. Now their songs are downright slow compared to a lot of punk that’s come out since. Not exactly what you’re going for in this thread but it’s along the same lines.

Punk became classic rock with age for the most part.

Same with post punk/goth/ alt rock, like the Cure, Siouxsie, or Concrete Blonde.

Bands like Eagles or Skynyrd are now pretty much considered country now, too.

Ice Cube was once part of the world’s most dangerous group. He was a thug, gangster and overall just plain bad for America’s youth. Now he’s a media darling. Networks can’t get enough of him with his films and TV family comedies.
