Zathras
OK! It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission, so here it goes! Since Halloween is coming up, I have selected Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978). This movie stars Donald Sutherland, Brook Adams, and Leonard Nimoy, and features a young Jeff Goldblum. It is free on Amazon Prime, and I am sure it is on Netflix. Definitely a rare case in which the remake is better than the original, much like John Carpenter's The Thing. In fact, you have a great double feature there! https://www.amazon.com/Invasion-Body-Snatchers-Donald-Sutherland/dp/B079FVP9X6/ref=sr_1_1?crid=UJ1Q1ECBHC18&dchild=1&keywords=invasion+of+the+body+snatchers+1978&qid=1602355754&s=instant-video&sprefix=invasion+of+the+bod%2Cinstant-video%2C193&sr=1-
Jedigoat
Sweet! I haven't watched since I was a little kid so I look forward to seeing this again.
Jacen123
Oooh! I still want to watch And Then There Were None, but this is exciting. I have only seen the Watts/Craig remake.
Jedigoat
Watched it last night. This movie creeped me out as a kid. It holds up pretty well. I'm surprised we haven't gotten a re-re-make of this.
Zathras
Yeah I am also surprised that there has not yet been another remake/update of this story. I just watched the 1978 version the other night myself, as I picked it up on blu ray for $5. It had been a while since I have seen this movie, too. The movie from beginning to end is creepy, and does hold up. However, it is also decidedly 1970s, which for me, is part of its charm. Some 1970s-1980s movies have this sense of realism that make you feel like what is happening or has happened, that some later films don't, and that is exactly what IOTBS has. Jedigoat
Goldblum, in his early films, looks so exotic. Much more than he does now. And he brings so much intensity to his work, even if it's just some wise ass, know it all buddy side character.
Zathras
Yeah, he is also in the first Deathwish as one of the punks who attack Bronson's wife and daughter. He was crazy looking then. Goldblum was perfect for the Fly, and he was freaky in Mr Frost.
R.CAllen
This is one of my all time favourites. I think I've seen it six or seven times. Might be a few days 'til I get to it — I don't know what's wrong w/my brain nowadays that I'd rather watch something semi-newish instead of something familiar or something completely new (often it's punkt farkert) but that's where my head is for the moment. I think IOTBS 1978 is a fun horror movie, that holds up well, and is a bit of a throwback to both the 1950s (spirit of the movie) and 1970s (when it was filmed). Glad you liked it! I was trying to pick something people might not have seen but would possibly like.

I want to watch this movie first and won't have time to think about anything until tomorrow, at least.
R.CAllen
I fell asleep a little over an hour in. Maybe rewatching Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) during a viral pandemic while playing Among Us on my tablet had a certain soporific quality and/or maybe I just didn't feel up to seeing absolutely everything come crashing down on these folks. There's still hope they'll turn things around at this point, they don't know Spock's an alien, they're calling in the authorities, as far as they're concerned normal life could very well be once again right around the corner. But it's not!

Jacen123
We just watched it. I had seen the Kidman/Craig remake, but never this one. It was a great movie with a really good cast. It was nice knowing the overall premise really well without knowing how things would go once they discovered the pods. We really enjoyed it, though my wife now wants to watch something else with a happier ending!
Tank
This is one of my favorites too. It has that 70s film grain smear that's usually seen in classic porn films. The icky plant / body horror stuff is something that works so well practically, and is a thing CG has made totally over the topic. This movie just feels icky all around, which is why I loved it. Question-- how man people saw the last frame as a meme for years before realizing it was from this film?

While I had seen IOTBS 1978 years before, I had seen the meme and never made the connection until I rewatched like maybe 10 years ago? I remember somebody even having that as their avatar here at nightly, but I can't remember who it was.
