If you're talking solo then Sammy hands down. If you're talking Van Halen, then it's a toss up.

Dave's solo work is lame, I agree. But sammy took the Van Halen out of Van Halen, turned them into a power ballad band. They were a half step away from being Poison.

Dude, I happen to like both Sammy and Diamond Dave. I refuse to choose.

Roth Van Halen is more hard classic rock. So is solo Sammy. Van Hagar is more pop rock. Solo Roth has a handful of near great songs, but mostly me. That said, there are tons to like from each of it.

And BTW it was Gary Cherone who took the Van Halen out of Van Halen! That and Eddie's coke habit.

I never got this argument. Eddie is the keyboard player. Eddie is the guy writing the songs. Yet Sammy gets blamed for the direction they went in musically. Two most comparable albums....1984 and 5150. Back to back. Both keyboard heavy. I think 5150 is the better album. 5150 probably is a little more keyboard centric.

Hagar is a joke with Van Halen. He turned them into corporate rock. It's like he heard Whitesnake or bon Jovi and said 'hey, fellas, fuck blues rock. Let's do goofy chick rock.' I hate Hagar with a passion.
