Job hunting in the time of Covid

I’ve only had one potential employer do as deep a dive as they claimed, it was for a job with the Columbus Police Department (not as a cop) and it did get sunk by a vindictive former boss who lied and said I was fired. But, that’s out of every job I’ve had, and I’ve had a lot. Most former employers don’t care to give much information. They just don’t care about people who left a long time ago. Even the crazy ones.

I got the promotion. The raise wasn’t what I was hoping for, but it’s still a solid raise after just 2 months with the company, and if I do as well in my next role, I could be moving up again quickly.

So now I have a 3rd interview set up. This one is with the actual agent I'll be working for, so there's that at least. I might be coming up on the end of this thing.

Getting that far is awesome! Good job! Feel good about yourself for that.

I do! It's just funny - this position was one of the first I sent in a resume for, and I did so just because I knew that I'm qualified and it would work out ok. I don't think I even included a cover letter tbh. Overall, I've been very lukewarm about this one.

The one (and only really) downside here is that any and all growth is going to depend 100% on this agent, Ashley. I was in this same position 7 years ago with a different agent, Sandra (the crazy one that fired me one morning by just saying "I just can't do this anymore"), and it turned out that she just didn't have it in her to run a business like she'd thought and wanted. Sandra could NOT let go and trust me to take over the parts of the business that I needed to, and it caused her great anxiety to not be involved in every single aspect of the business and transactions. It's been 7 years now and she's still exactly where she was when she fired me though, so I know the issue was with her and not necessarily me.

On the other hand, Ashley is coming from a real estate team that's already established (and very successful) with someone in my position and several other team members, so she should be much more aware of how responsibilities and duties are split. She's hoping to branch off on her own and start her own team which begins with hiring a good executive assistant who can take over the operations side of the business while she focuses on bringing in clients and generating sales. I 100% can do that, and I have the leadership and supervisory skills to grow and lead a team of admins, transactions coordinators, listing coordinators, etc. as the team grows and they become necessary. But Ashley has to be 110% on board as well, but like Sandra, she may not even know yet if she's not.

I actually do take some comfort in knowing that she hired this agency to find an assistant. That shows that 1 - she's ok with investing money in someone from the start, 2 - she's serious enough to hire specialists to vet applicants and find the right person not just any qualified person, and 3 - this likely means that she prioritizes her time and is ok handing off tasks instead of remaining completely in charge.

The potential is there, so I'm excited about that, but I'm cautious. At least Tuesday's interview will be with Ashley as well, so I'll get to feel her out. But if it goes well, and I get this job (and I really think I will), I really need to get a car.

I think it went really well. We went over on time and didn't cover everything. So we have to set up another one. But on the plus side - apparently most of this will be working from home! So I won't have to make any crazy moves just yet.

Ok. Had the 2nd half of the interview today. It also went well. Now they've moved on to checking my references, and after that it looks like there might be one more interview in the process. At this point I do sorta feel like we're just going through the motions here, but this is all a part of the package that Ashley is paying for, so I'm going to stick with it.

That's what I told Trevor! I at least need to accept this job for a minute to get SOME sort of compensation for this!

But this is the last interview. That's been confirmed now.

This is the last email I received from the recruiter.

Perfect! Sent you the calendar invite, and I'll see you tomorrow!

This is the opportunity for you to get to know Ashley and the role through people that know her well, so feel free to ask any questions you'd like! :)

That pretty much sounds like I got the job. So...finally.

I interviewed to manage quality assurance for a multi-billion dollar insurance company and there were fewer hoops to jump through.

Why can't I reply in this stupid thread??

So I got the job.

This thread REFUSES to accept my typed out reply. So I'll bullet point.

  • Still waiting for the official offer, but it's been confirmed.
  • It's going to be 95% work-from-home and I get to pick my schedule
  • She liked me initially because of scouting.
  • She needs help with scouting.
  • She also really likes my planner pictures on Insta.
  • My real estate experience was just like a bonus.

I updated my resume today.

Starting June 1, I have zero work from home flexibility. Either I come in to the office to work or I don't get paid.

That miiiiight be a bad business move when people are begging for new hires everywhere.

Just two weeks, but that two weeks starts June 18, so I won’t be available until after July 4, considering I should give a two week notice at my current job which would butt me right up to surgery day :o This is so not the time to be looking for a new job, but here I am.

Why am I so nervous about this interview?
