What do you mean by CPU? Because your computer isn't working with the CPU out or disassembled. Do you mean case? If so, it's definitely best practice to have a case on it, it helps protect against dust and dirt that could damage things. It isn't going to die immediately because of a lack of case, unless you spill something or do something else stupid, but you want a case.
