'To be fair, living like this is hard on people, and no doubt the less stable among us are going to have a hard time with it.'

I don't get this, really. I'm probably the least stable person here and I'm doing fine. But maybe that's because this is my normal life. The only changes for me have been where I work and that I can't just go by the grocery store every other day. I can imagine dealing with kids while having to work from home is a bit challenging but is it really that hard just to stay home? Blast me if I deserve it-my world is very small these days

I get this. I really feel like that meme I posted last week - these people don't know how to be poor. They're new poor. We're old poor.

We've lived on the poverty line for so long that I'm just appalled that people are suggesting that "mass poverty" is as bad as or worse than death. When you actively risk death to avoid being poor, what does that say about your views of the poor? And how does that callousness translate into your voting?

I've been poor. For the first time ever I am able to weather this better than most. Except I find myself jealous of furloughed people while I'm slaving away at two jobs. I am just hoping this makes an equalizer. For instance maybe governments can start looking at affordable housing and pay rate increases that actually help. And people see that Trump and his ilk are bad bad bad news.

This is one of those cases where I hate both sides.

I distrust big pharma more than Trump.

On the one hand, you have Trump mentioning it, then some yokel eats a derivative of it meant for a fish tank and dies. Left-minded press tells us TRUMP KILLS PEOPLE.

On the other hand, HCQ is cheap AF. Big Pharma doesn't like cheap. There are cases, when used properly in combination with a z-pack and other meds, it turned out to work pretty well. It's just not a full proof cure for every case.

Meanwhile, somehow the media gets briefed on ONE study of around 350 people where HCQ was given to some patients, and of the death toll (all had rona and died from it) more taking the HCQ died vs not... and the headline suddenly becomes HCQ KILLS!!!!

Then you get the reverse side of it, where Trump begins to talk about another treatment made by a company he's a major shareholder in.

Our entire government is corrupt.

The data from the VA, looked at objectively, shows that HCQ increases the mortality rate. Full stop. Combining it with azythromycin can decrease the chance of needing a ventilator, but it still increases the chance of death. I'm not entirely sure that counts as working out pretty well.

I want there to be an easy answer to this, and I want us to save as many lives as possible, but everyone went crazy over this drug because of.. 20ish patients? That's not a study, that's a story. 350 in the VA is barely meaningful, but way more than the original data.

I'm not sure exactly where the big pharma thing comes into this. Do you think the VA is lying to suppress a cheap treatment in order to develop something more expensive? Unless someone comes up with a miracle antiviral that's going to treat a plethora of viruses, or there's no vaccine for this, treating Covid-19 isn't the big moneymaker that big pharma is out for. They want to make meds that people will take for life. That's where the money is. Viagra. Depression. ADHD. Those are the huge moneymakers that they want to develop. And you might be surprised to learn how close some of them are to failing because there hasn't been anything huge on any of those fronts.

Our county sheriff announced he is not going to enforce the stay-home order because its inconsistent and FREEDOM. Basically a giant political play and because he's pissed about prisoner releases. I know who I'm not voting for the next time that job comes up for election. The curve is just starting to flatten in our county and we do not have a lot of hospital beds. The data says that if we stopped staying home, our county hospitals would be overwhelmed in 5 days. What an idiot.

Oh man. Our county judge just announced mandatory masks in public for the next 30 days. You should read the letter the policeman's union sent "her". I put her in quotes because it's exceedingly obvious that the douche who wrote the letter was just itching for a reason to demean our county judge in public. I doubt it even went to her. I bet they just posted it online.

Our county judge and mayor are pretty level headed and although they don't strictly enforce the guidelines, that is give out tickets to people not doing things, they do push you to do the right thing for everyone. So shame basically gets those non-face protective wearing weirdos moving along. There is a small faction of Trump voters who point out the ONE inmate the county released killed a person a day after he was released. But a lot of workers at the jail have contracted the virus.

The thing about the French study that even I teach my kids for science needs to be included in testing hypothesis is to have a placebo group. The French HCQ study had no control group. The Virginia one did. Also one should also take into consideration that the French have national healthcare, different diets and different sets of health issues than Americans have.

What we need is a vaccine because this can come back again in fall.

I've been going to my parks every day except Easter weekend to walk. They've still got caution tape all over picnic tables, playground equipment and surrounding places that people can congregate but the walking trails are open for business! I would hate to be the person who has to sanitize ALL of those play ground equipment things. It would be like sanitizing a ball pit at McDs.

Most parks are open here, unless they found people were congregating. Only one has been closed that Im aware of, but I havent been following too closely. Lots of hiking available, and you can play games as long as its just your household.

Weve been hiking regularly, at least until I destroyed my knees. Im wearing braces on both knees now, and hoping I dont have to see a doctor about them.

I am fat so my knees are killing me. I just bought a scale though. I am working to lose pounds so I need to walk at least a mile every day. I usually go to a super nice park near me with a flat trail with gentle rise because my knees are killing me. They had to close down all parks on Easter weekend because it's a tradition that people camp the whole weekend and grill and party at some of our best parks. Too many people in one place at Brackenridge. I'm glad I hate the litter.

anyone want to fight about HCQ?

The CDC is now saying its dangerous.

Again, Im not entirely surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised. Ive been warning people to not trust any miracle cures that havent been approved, and not to even get their hopes up.

This is the type of situation you need to be a pessimist and think this is going to be for the long haul. If Im wrong, Ill be extremely happy (although in a lot of ways this is my best life).

My thoughts were mostly based on the Henry Mayo clinic out here having had multiple cases of success with it. Not to the stage it had become common place, but a handful of cases used it on patient request, and things worked out.

Again, causation and correlation, could have been a fluke. Their work wasn't peer reviewed either. If the CDC warns it off though, that's it.

But it's a med that's been around forever with other uses.

My big pharma comment comes from the fact that I have been using the same inhaler for a good 30 years. That med, depending on insurance, has varied in cost from $5 to $200.

I'm not a big conspiracy person, but they idea of the medical companies using lobbyism or influence elsewhere to crush a cheap generic med so they can push an expensive version? I'd believe it.

The inhaler issue is more of an insurance issue than a pharmaceutical company. It may legitimately be cheaper without insurance, with a discount card, than $200. Depending on the exact medication. I have really good insurance and thats the case for some of my meds

Heck, its actually possible for a cash payment without a discount to be cheaper than the insurance price. It has more to do with health insurers being run by soulless scumbags.

Oh man-- I have gone through so many options over the years. Insurance does greatly effect the price-- but the uncovered price is super high. I've got fancy Hollywood douche insurance now, I pay like $12 for 3 months worth. But back int he day I did the coupon thing, I did the overseas RX finder thing, I made road trips to Mexico where they were OTC... if there was a scam for this thing I tried it at some point.

NO WORRIES GUYS he was just being sarcastic about injecting disinfectant with the reporters! What a jokester! Just what we need in a time of crisis.

Even on Fox News theyre like that wasnt sarcasm, and this is dangerous.

And apparently it kind of got through? Trump says hes scaling down the daily spectacle.

Seeing as how internet people were making their kids drink bleach to cure their autism before the rona even made the jump to humans, how many people do you think will try inhaling bleach to disinfect their lungs?
