When did Star Trek: Discovery start being good?

Sounds like the first season wasn't that great, but people love it now. When did it improve? Season 2?

I'm doing a CBS All Access trial, and I want to give it a shot but I don't want to force myself through the bad stuff to get to the good.

I think S2, was a mixed bag. It definitely did not stick the landing.

On it's own, it's a great looking, fun show. When you have to consider that it's Star Trek it gets shakey. When you try to reconcile it as pre-TOS primeverse, it falls apart.

What people mostly liked about S2 was Captain Pike. He was great, as was the Enterprise and its crew (though Emobeard Spock was iffy). Most every one I know basically ended S2 just wanting a Pike era Enterprise show.

I never even watched.

Not because of like some fanboy thing, it was a wallet thing. I already paid for too many monthly streaming services, I couldnt convince myself to pay for what CBS was offering.

I am more intrigued by Picard, but that is more of a possibility because Netflix is sucking lately and so Im thinking of dropping it.
