Democratic Presidential Campaigns for 2020

I don't know. I've been telling myself that too, but I'm not really convinced, and I worry a lot of Democrat-leaning voters will see that message too often and decide it's not worth voting. National polls, which I know are meaningless, have Biden up by 8-ish points. Sabatos Crystal Ball currently has it at 248-233 in favor of the Democrats. It's not at all a forgone conclusion that Trump wins again and I really hope people stop saying it, even if there is next to no excitement about Biden.

Joe needs to name a VP candidate who is much younger than he is, and ready to lead right away. A governor or senator is a good choice, better than Stacey Abrams, who hasn't held that high a position than those. Someone to his left might help with the Bernie supporters who are having an apoplectic fit about not getting their way again. I also would like to see him name some potential Cabinet members and Supreme Court justices.

The Supreme Court is what I'm trying to remind people of these days. Forget that it's a vote for Joe Biden and realize you're voting for at least two Supreme Court justices, as RBG and Breyer are almost certain to not last another four years. Maybe Clarence Thomas too. If Trump wins, that's a 7-2 conservative tilt for the court for decades to come. Far, far more damaging than electing a potential dementia patient who may be a sexual predator, in my opinion.

Oh yeah, my GOP family has been passing around a letter someone wrote about how fantastic the Trumpster is and it's all Obama's fault that we weren't prepared because of Obamacare. And I am sitting on my fingers not trying to point out things like facts to keep family harmony right now because of my Nan and Mom being in the hospital. But Wisconsin primaries proved that even with high anxiety and social distancing people were willing to step out and vote to get the GOP out of their state.

I just wish every article/post/tweet from a democratic voter wouldnt start with IM VOTING FOR HIM EVEN THOUGH TRUMP IS TOTALLY GONNA DESTROY HIM. All that accomplished is convening other potential democratic voters to not come out at all, because whats the point of youve been convinced Trump is gonna easily win?

Well, I think for a good segment of the US voting population, the core question is: in what way is Biden preferable to Trump?

The best justifications for getting out there and voting blue even if it's Biden that I've read, as far as liberal minded people are concerned, come down to Supreme Court appointees and, at the state level, the drawing up of electoral districts. That's done on the 10th year of every decade, and the gerrymandering is getting pretty bad. If you're a liberal, you don't want your state to go red and gerrymander districts in a way that favors the G.O.P. Of course, Republicans have the same motivations to get out there.

Deeper problems beset the Democratic party though, and I thus wonder how fit to govern they actually are. I keep thinking back to the 2008-2010 period when they had the White House and both houses of congress, and they still couldn't get Obama's tepid, corporatist health care reform passed without dropping what was far and away its best feature: the public option. That was just one instance of many that the party conveys a strong sense of being unable to get its act together. I think it's always been like that, as much in its times of success (the late 70s, 2008-2010 etc) as its times of weakness and struggle (the early 2000s, 2017 - 2018 etc). The party seems to be at its best when it's conspiring to prevent Bernie Sanders from becoming its presidential nominee. Then, it seems, they manage to whistle up a political savvy that would make Machiavelli proud. Otherwise, they're a confused circle jerk the vast majority of the time. That says quite a bit, and people notice it and ask themselves the same kinds of questions I do. Why can they only display winning political savvy against their own party's left wing?

I wonder if its problem isn't that its such a big tent party. It has everything from southern blue dog democrats hardly distinguishable from republicans, all the way over to democratic socialists of america types. It has your old union people, the kinds of municipal level types that want a lot of infrastructure spending, environmentalists, egg-headed sciency types who don't like red state church attendees - think your average poster on this board in the 2004 or so timespan plus or minus a few years, the pantsuit feminists who figure a woman's place is at the boardroom table, the LGBT-alphabet soup people, libertarians who aren't too keen on the Jesus freaks and white priders who are all too often their political allies, your Sam Sader/Chapo Trap House "dirtbag" types who figure they're going to beat 4chan at their own game, no small number of advocates for various government departments, of course your inner city blacks and hispanics in the south west, Hollywood, most of academia, tumblr SJWs ... on and on.

Contrast this with Republicans. There tends to be fewer "types" so to speak. Evangelicals, pro military types, anti immigration people, right-libertarians, soccer moms, business and financial lobbyists of various types, "an honest day's work for an honest day's pay" kinds of salt of the earth rural and working class white dudes and a smattering of neoreactionaries and 4chan trolls. I think the democratic party alliance is harder to hold together. What I've observed of conservatives and Republicans is that whatever their differences, they naturally all fall in and coalesce around a single idea, and that's the moralistic conservative economic mythology. Fiscal conservatism and hostility to economic regulation and redistribution, basically. However much the republican insiders hated Trump prior to his nomination as president, they weren't complaining once his big tax cut and jobs act was passed in 2017. The dems don't seem to have anything comparable to this.

What is the core philosophy of the democratic party? Not being the republicans seems to be the answer. When one looks at the G.O.P, you'd think that'd be enough. But it isn't. So they're always playing defense ideologically, so to speak, even when they're clearly in power such as in Obama's early years in office.

Nooooooooooooo. You have to vote. I would rather live through a Biden White House than the trash we have now.

Thanks vote or lack of vote doesn't matter. California is going Democrat no matter what.

So apparently Trump is freaking out about Arizona because Astronaut Kelly may boot out McSally. I have never wanted to move to Arizona and make my vote count more than today. But then I remember OMG I would have to live in Tucson or Casa Grande or Green Valley and I would want to die to be near my family of nutz. I will just vote against Ted Cruz. And Abbott.

Biden should refrain from deciding who is black enough. This guy is marginally better than Trump, but is still like the third worst candidate in modern presidential elections.

Who do you think Biden will pick? We're getting around to that time for the DNC to do it's convention. Mostly online. HA!

I have a feeling it will not be anyone really expects like Susan Rice and not any of those who ran in the primary, but it doesn't really matter because it will be someone Trump will claim will be the end of the world if Biden is elected. This will be another election straight down party lines, so the dems will accept anyone, and the republicans will see whomever Biden selects as the Devil.
