I have a question about Riverdale

I started watching season 1 on Netflix when I was laid up earlier this year. I probably got maybe 3/4 of the way through the season (man, traditional-length seasons are LONG) before moving on to other things, not that I hated it, I just found myself busier and more active and stuff.

But apparently season 3 has all of Riverdale High playing a D&D game that's connected to some murderous forest monster cult? With musical numbers?

So, my question is, do I need to actually finish season one and watch season two before I can dig in to this ridiculousness?

I watched season 1 and part of season 2 before completely losing interest. But my guess would be that you could just jump in and look up anything that doesn't make sense. It isn't a show that's necessarily designed for super-tight storylines that you have to catch all of it.
