Fox News showed the video as an "outrage"?

Naw, she could be white and I think she'd get the same celebrity/notoriety. Young is a bit closer, but she's rather taking the aspects of youth that generally keep them away from the grownup table. We've had plenty of young politicians before. Even brown ones. Heck, even Republican brown politicians. Bobby Jindal (ran the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals at age 24), Marco Rubio (Majority Whip in Florida's House at 29), Nikki Haley (Majority Whip in S. Carolina's House at age 33), even Ted Cruz (Texas Solicitor General at 32) immediately spring to mind as holding significant office at around the same age and, really, are all still pretty young.

Democrats have had plenty of their own in the same vein.

Where I think the difference is, isn't her age, it's her immaturity. And that's what gets people to rally around her. 29 really isn't all that young. Plenty of people have accomplished a lot by that age. Heck, most of us are more mature than her by the time we hit 29.

Just think of the billboards. "Running a Train on Brooklyn since 2018". I mean how did that even come out of her mouth? It's hilarious.

As for the coverage of her, she like a female Trump. She can't keep her mouth shut on Twitter. Or the press, or on television. She's been in office for two weeks. The whole conservative backlash over that video was a media creation and she jumped on it.

You're not the only one to notice that. I saw an op-ed about it as I was scrolling through Apple News this morning, but figured I already knew the whole argument, and so I nodded in agreement and moved on.

I like AOC and the policies she's championing, although I wish she was less brash and confrontative in her approach. But then, her constituents voted for her knowing she's brash and confrontative, and I am not one of her constituents, so my opinion isn't exactly worth much.

Guest El Chalupacabra

Yeah, it's not so much her message, but from what little I have seen, she turns me off to listening. Being the female Anti-Trump isn't a good thing. Comes off as arrogant and classless. But I think that can be said about many in Congress, so it isn't just her. It's a lack of people conducting themselves as states persons, and acting more like guests from Jerry Springer.

She very much is the female anti-Trump, and it is the MAGA crowd that makes her that. AOC is the answer to Trump. She is to the MAGA crowd what Trump himself is to all the Colbert watching urban liberals who so love to cry "Orange man BAD!" "Brown socialist woman BAD!" A bogeyman who embodies all they outwardly profess to hate and fear and quite possibly some things they're afraid to admit also kinda resonates with them. I suspect Jung's theories of shadow, projection and ego-splitting apply in spades here. People need a bad guy onto which to project their own repressed fears and desires. That's why Trump gets under the skin of the progs. That's why AOC gets under the skin of the MAGA crowd.

People, and especially groups who lack in self awareness and deal in heavily mythologized world views are fated to create enemies in their own image. Especially when the outward face of that group is consumed with self righteousness. Liberals project all the hatred and intolerance they themselves are guilty of onto Trump. Because he is what they are allowed to hate: old, white, male, wealthy. They hate him, because in their own twisted way, they are him. Bloated, arrogant, hypocritical and self righteous, and caring nothing for whether what he says is true or not. Trump openly confronts them with the horrifying prospect that their new age pseudo religion of romanticizing the "other" - minorities, immigrants, natives, women etc just might be a pile of rubbish. I wonder at times if the progressives didn't subconsciously sabotage their crusade against Trump right from the get-go. By insuring he had the media spotlight at all times, angry liberals did Trump's work for him.

AOC seems to be the MAGA crowd's version of the same thing. To what extent are angry internet neckbeards projecting their own gnawing doubts and subconscious suspicions that Trump, that neoreaction and libertarianism and their reductionist economics 101 understanding of complex issues are all a giant fraud - onto someone who's their consummate devil in the flesh: a young leftist millennial who, besides being an ethnic woman, mixes her PC identity politics in with leftist stances on a host of economic issues. Stances which, they fear, just might do a better job of "making America great again" than their own shopworn Reagan era trickle down pieties. So in their own ways, they're doing to AOC exactly what their progressive nemesis did with Trump.

And to what extent are they grooming her for an eventual tenure in the White House as a result?

I mean, a ton of things can happen between now and the hypothetical then, but if in 20 years she hasn't at least made one presidential run, I'll be shocked.

I want to know what economic security entails, and how they make the distinction between unwilling and unable.

In the current job market, you could argue that anyone who is unemployed is unwilling because there's a job at the gas station or McDonald's. I was there a couple of years ago, and I needed to hold out for something better in order to feed my family and pay the mortgage, but I could've jumped to one of those jobs.

If that girl was host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, people would go "we know what you're doing". The studio would be empty.

WHAT?

'The government will provide education, health care, and wages for those unwilling to work'

WHAT? Show me that they are all UNWILLING to work.

I think she was a bartender.

Shes got a good heart, and a lot of charisma, but shes just too young.

For what?

I don't think that you're getting a response.

The first part was a joke. She wants to raise taxes on the rich. So her being host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is irony.

The second part is what was written in The Green New Deal before they pulled it off her site and said nope we didn't say that.

To be fair, it was on a FAQ, not on the resolution. But do you have a source for claiming it was never there? You've said it a couple times, but I haven't been able to find any articles stating that they're denying it existed.

There's no way that's a real person. I'm concerned that he's a professor and that he's advising anyone on anything other than how to do the drugs he's selling
