I see where you are confused. AHS continuity only lasts in one episode increements. They only reference one episode back, and set up one forward.

... which is why this season of AHS Wold family of seasons is crazy, but they still gotta do their thing.

Funny how Sabrina has done the Halloween Chick Tract version of Satanism soooo much better.

UGH, that is a STUPID way to tell a story but it makes a lot of things about this show make more sense.

I'm not watching Sabrina because I'm allergic to the Witches are Satan's Handmaidens trope, but it sounds like Actual Satanists are going after them, too - legally, for a statue of Baphomet used on the show that they claim is way too similar to their infamous Detroit statue and therefore is infringing on intellectual property. But they're definitely not on board with the rest of the show, either.

WTF happened to the Satanists, anyway? They don't seem to have any rhyme or reason as to what they endorse and what they condemn anymore.

Sabrina's production design team effed up hard, but I stand by the rest of the show. I get your witch stance, and I'm friends with a lot of people who identify with witches-- but Sabrina is most certainly kitsch about it. It's Halloween brand witches and Satanism.

I get it, just like Doctors don't like medical shows and lawyers hate legal dtamas, Hollywood rately gets it right... but some of my witchy friends really love it.

The problem for me is that "Halloween brand" has been sold to the masses for hundreds of years as the God-honest truth about witches and Satan. Which has led women - and men - of all stripes to be horribly murdered by Good Christians on accusation of witchcraft throughout the centuries. Considering we just saw the worst anti-Semitic attack on American soil ever, and the US president is currently whipping up his very Christian and very Scared base with his rhetoric about Others, I really feel like shining a big ol' spotlight on the false association between witchcraft and Satanism right now is irresponsible at best, particularly since the news media has been chiming in on the trend with stories about how witchcraft as a spiritual practice is on the rise with young people, especially young people in various minority communities (The Atlantic just ran one today).

SORRY THAT GOT POLITICAL, BRANDO.

That all being said, if Sabrina had come out a few years ago - say, on the tails of The Witch (which is a movie I really liked) - I would have been totally into it. The stills I see look amazing. I like the cast a lot in their other projects. And I like Riverdale. I'm disappointed that Salem doesn't talk, but Midnight, Texas is there for my sassy talking cat familiar needs. And I've read some very interesting feminist thinkpieces that are very positive about the show. I don't even hate Satan or Satanism. I just... wish they had gone in a different direction with how they're centering the magical elements of the story considering the current climate.

Meanwhile, Sabat Magazine asked their instagram followers what they think about nuSabrina, and it was basically half "Satan is a Christian god and I'm not a Christian, I don't even believe in Satan, how am I supposed to come out of the Broom Closet to my Christian family if this show is telling them I worship Satan" and half *insert about a million black heart emojis here.* So. You know. We're no monolith. Views expressed here are my own yadda yadda.

I also have to say that I'm really enjoying seeing the original Sabrina cast be so supportive of the new show, especially since the cast of original Charmed are so vocally butthurt that the CW rebooted the show and hired a young cast instead of their 50yo asses to star in a show FOR TEENAGERS.

And to actually bring this back to the topic at hand, considering all of that *gestures upward,* how great is it that every other show about witches right now has them fighting demons - to the point where AHS gives us an Antichrist but hasn't breathed a word about a Christ to counter him... meanwhile, the Antichrist's first task as such was to eliminate the witches and warlocks because he saw them as the only people who could possibly stop him - you know, the people the Church have been hanging and burning and chucking off cliffs because they supposedly lick Satan's ***hole during their sabbats (no, seriously, that's what people believed about witches in the middle ages). Good job making the Antichrist's ascension easier by largely killing off his only natural enemies!

If somebody picked this season to be their first they're confused AF.

My fiancee is watching the show for the first time right now. She's loving it, though she definitely finds it confusing. I explain many parts of the references to her, but I certainly don't catch all of them, even after having watched every season.

Is she tracking that several actors are playing multiple parts?

She mostly follows it. Those are some of the main times I have to step in and tell her they are different characters. It's only a few of the actors that she really recognizes playing different roles, primarily Peters and Paulson. Of course, those are the two that pop up the most. Even then, it really depends on make-up and costuming. For instance, she had no idea Peters was playing the guy (whose name I absolutely do not remember) with Sidibe in Hotel Cortez. Likewise with Frances Conroy's roles. Sarah Paulsion, though, just always looks like Sarah Paulson, regardless of hair colors.

So, now our Intrepid Antichrist is killing younglings in the Jedi Tem... I mean Witch and Warlock schools. This is definitely not the Prequels.

This is also definitely not going to have a satisfying resolution in just one more episode, right? I mean... if they insist on showing everything that led up to the standoff in Outpost 3, we still haven't even seen how Cordelia managed to hide so many witches in an Illuminati-controlled Outpost right under Michael's nose, and then we have to actually get to the standoff, AND THEN there has to be some sort of a conclusion. That's going to be 40 minutes of pure whiplash.

Yeah, remember when we thought those two kids with perfect genes that wanted to bone were central to the story?

This 7 episode flashback has derailed them. The Murder House episode was so great, but it's been a mess since then.

It's funny that no one in the horror community or the dedicated horror press ever actually talk about this show.

Man, no one is wanting to give that up. I've read all kind of crazy fan theories about them still being important - from legit entertainment news sources!

Considering they've established that bringing people back from the dead is a pretty easy thing for the majority of the MCs this season I'd consider their death all the way back in episode 3 an easily remedied detail. But not if we only have 40 more minutes of story to work with.

Mayyyyyyyyybe in future seasons they'll want to rethink their three episode at a time approach?

That finale was one of the worst this show has pulled out of their ass. They literally had 43 minutes to address every set up and dangler and plot hole. Valiant effort, I think they hit them all (save for who rubber man was), but it was rushed, cheesy, and worse-- you could tell they rushed it because there were terrible takes from good actors.

Except Michael Langdon. That guy is terrible all the time.

Even Angela and Jessica and their one scene chewing scene a piece couldn't save it.

Despite the return to Murder House being one of my favorite AHS episodes, this is easily the worst season of all.

I really don't know how it's getting renewed at this point. I also don't think real horror fans watch this show, nor are there any actual horror writers working on it.

Like a fool I'll keep watching, because the cast and spectacle are so much fun. I just wish they'd focus on telling a cohesive story first, and spectacle second.

Your guess is as good as (and probably better than) mine!

Since AHS is always released around October, I would venture to guess casual horror fans, who want to see something semi-scary around Halloween time, but probably don't fall into the hard core horror fandom, like you were saying earlier. AHS can be somewhat gory, but it isn't gore porn levels. No idea of demographics like age group and gender, though, because I am too lazy to look it up.

Yeah, I have no idea who is watching.

You. You are watching. I am, too, so I don't mean that as an insult or anything, but I think you hit the nail on the head with what you said about it still being a fun show. People probably care more about that almost certainly than it being a horror show. From what I've read, it seems like that's also one of the draws for the actors, too.

I actually liked this season pretty well. It was so far out there with its trying to connect a bunch of seasons that were already so far out there, that I thought it was enjoyable. It definitely didn't hit on many points, but that happens every season. Despite the connections to all the past seasons, my fiancee was a big fan of the show and was always wanting to watch the next episode immediately.

With that being said, I hope for another nice, small scale season for the next one.

That's easy:

Now that I've had time to think about it...

From episode one, this whole season was so utterly weird and ridiculous and over-the-top that I can't really fault the finale for having an eye-roller of a scene where the Antichrist is processing his initial grief that his MomBot5000 (played by Oscar Winner Kathy Bates) got blown to smithereens.

How they handled Michael's death didn't sit well with me, though. I mean, they invested seven out of 10 episodes in showing us how this half-demon eight year old went from Murder House Baby to Lord of the Nukes, and the whole time he was used, abused, and manipulated by basically everyone around him. They also took great pains to show that he was capable of love, and craved being loved, and felt loss and rejection very deeply. Watching a five year old, regardless of how old he looks, get mowed down by an SUV and then rejected by his own grandmother as he's actively dying, and having this presented as a good thing was... off-putting. Especially considering Tate-The-School-Shooter has always been seen as a tragic figure and got a redemption story this season (seriously, we're all okay with blaming the House for Tate's murder spree and rape of his girlfriend's mother, but Michael is 100% personally responsible for who and what he is?), and James March The 10 Commandments Killer (who did much more gruesome things on-screen than Michael ever did) was shown as Queenie's benign afterlife buddy. idk. Maybe I just have too much sympathy for the devil.

Anyway, this is about the point where we usually modify our rankings of the seasons, and I honestly have no idea where I would put Apocalypse on the list. Definitely low, but Roanoke is still my least favorite. This is a Freak Show kind of season for me - I enjoyed it well enough, but there are so many other demonstrably superior seasons.

I don't know if a space setting would work for me, when it comes to AHS. Now, they COULD pull off a Bone Tomahawk style western, I think! Besides the Asylum season already did space with the (possible) alien abduction of Pepper.

PLEASE be in the Old West.

Unless it's Cowboys and Aliens!
