Guest El Chalupacabra
Interesting they are going to include additional material not seen in the film. I wonder if this indicates that LF/Disney acknowledges some cut footage should have remained in the film, or if this is entirely new material, or a combination thereof. Some are speculating there will be more backstory to Snoke, Luke, Rey, Kylo, etc.
Filthy Jawa
Is this a somewhat liberal use of the term "all-new"? Or is it all-new? Or is it an adaptation? I'm confused.
Guest El Chalupacabra
My understanding is they will be depicting the film, but also add additional scenes that were not in the film.
Tank
Its more likely because it was written from an earlier draft than the shooting script. Most book and comic adaptions are.
Guest El Chalupacabra
That brings up another question: I wonder if this means what will be included in the comic series will also be in the novelization. Time will tell, for sure, but fun to wonder about and speculate on.
Mara Jade Skywalker
The novelization was actually written later than usual. It comes out March 6. This was specifically done per Rian Johnson's request - he didn't want the book coming out the same day as the movie and possibly lead to leaks beforehand. The author of the novelization, Jason Fry, met with Rian to discuss creating new scenes and adapting deleting scenes.
