Sexual Harassment

Not shocking coming from the crowd that not only lets a child rapist continue directing, but hands out rewards and standing ovations to him. Sorry, watching that moment at the Academy Awards will always be the point at which I walked away from Hollywood as any kind of respectable institution.

The culture is changing though. It's nice, because previously the cure for "locker room talk" basically meant that women should be as piggish as men. Hopefully, someday it'll ask us all to behave.

I think Spacey thought he could get away with it. He's pretty close to the vest on his sexuality but really people don't expect that of him.

Oddly I think/believe sexual harassment is probably more prevalent in say Congress and Hollywood than say the porn industry or insurance because of the double standards that they set. Nothing like buying and selling gossip and secrets and money.

Good friend of mine who tried to make it in Hollywood had a Spacey experience. He marked out when he met him in a bar, the next thing he knew Keyser Soze had his hand down his pants. So I'm not really surprised to read that he's a sexual predator. And like that, phew, he was gone.

Is it really news that Weinstien is a scumbag? I find it funny that so many actresses are coming after him now, because most wouldn't have had any kind of career without him. Makes you wonder how the Scarlett Johansens and Jennifer Lawrences of the world got their respective spots. Pretty girls who can't act are a dime a dozen. Whatever they did to get ahead I'm sure it rhymes with ducking sick.

And I love how Ashley Judd "forgives" Weinstein. cunt gives a vagina monologue on Trump for making a bad joke but gives Harvey Rapist a pass because he gave her a career. Talk about conflicted.

The whole thing is just a wonderful mess. The box office bombs of 2017 underline how tired middle America is of an inferior product. The real entertainment is watching liberals eat their own.

Guest El Chalupacabra

Kevin Spacey in American Beauty is basically a child molester, and he played that part a little too well, so I am not surprised he's a sexual predator. I have heard there were rumors Kevin Spacey was gay, but didn't hear about him being a predator before all this, so it now makes sense why he never talked about it: he probably didn't want to open the door for victims to bring that all up. How ironic that the show House of Cards was basically one for him in real life.

I was barely aware of who Harvey Weinstein is before the controversy, but if he did what he was accused, he should be tried in a court of law like Bill Cosby.

I've never even heard of Louis CK before this thread.

So, yeah, obviously, I don't follow celebrity news. I hope they go after these, and other sexual predators, like they do the Catholic Church or teachers. Especially since Hollywood likes to go after those institutions. I mean the term "casting couch," has been around for years and years, and it's time to drain the swamp, and get rid of all the pervs.

Interesting and random thought: for years critics of Hollywood have called it an old boys club. It would be interesting if the vacuum left by the pervs being ousted from their influential positions gets filled with more female producers, directors and writers, who have been denied the same opportunities.

This shit will never go away. Hollywood is just shaking things up because the older generation is friends with the younger generation, and everyones super comfortable holding onto their power and the money flow is getting stale, so we need to say its all a cesspool and bring in a whole new world of celebrities we never heard of, intrigue the hell out of us, and get us to spend more money than ever before. This is only because Weinstein lost all his cache. Don't no one give a crap about his movies anymore. Actors really are a dime a dozen and directors and producers that will have the edge now is basically any joe shmoe who is new. Sexual harassment cover-ups are never going away. Am I jaded? Ok maybe but I'm what Hollywood needs if theyre just gonna pick someone off the street to be a new celebrity and tell me to worship them.

But until the new day comes, lemme just give my two cents:

-Louis C.K.? Really? Am I surprised? Am I not surprised? I dunno?

-Weinstein. I don't care. I really am not surprised. Its like telling me some fascist middle eastern dictator is having people beheaded in the streets. Like wow. Try him in court, sure. But really is this even an interesting story? An interesting story to me would be which women didn't come forward because they sold their soul, let themselves be abused, and are reaping all the benefits today.

-Kevin Spacey. I found this hilarious. All my life (I was 10 when American Beauty came out), I figured his whole filmography was just him trying to say he was gay. Him being a predator? Surprising. His admittal and apology? Super hetero. But that's Kevin Spacey.

It is nice that the GOP is going to throw away yet another easy Senate seat because of a nutball who refuses to quit.

Hopefully he wins and gets immediately ejected by 2/3 of the Senate.

About that Alabama Moore guy. HAHAHAHAHAA!@the Jesus birth story. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. Like Mary had a virgin birth dude. I don't think that is what you were doing with your 14 year old. But then Alabama is still legal to get married at 15 so I don't see what the outcry is about if your parents are willing to sign and give you to a man.

Sorry, watching that moment at the Academy Awards will always be the point at which I walked away from Hollywood as any kind of respectable institution.

Let's not forget those who signed the 2009 petition demanding the release of Roman Polanski (when arrested in Switzerland in connection to his 1977 child rape case). That list included many of the biggest left wing ideologues in the entertainment business:

  • Woody Allen
  • Martin Scorcese
  • David Lynch
  • Jerry Schatzberg
  • Michael Mann
  • Terry Gilliam
  • Wim Wenders
  • Pedro Almodovar
  • Asia Argento (who recently claimed Harvey Weinstein raped her)
  • Monica Belluci
  • Jonathan Demme
  • Stephen Frears
  • Costa Gavras
  • John Landis
  • Alexander Payne

...and at the time, Whoopi Goldberg championed those who signed it.

Recently, Barbara Walters attacked Corey Feldman's longtime claims of entertainment business pedophilia and defended said business.

This is the from the same entertainment industry culture that screamed as if Hell opened up on earth after the release of the Trump Access Hollywood tape (thank you, NBC, who also hired sexual predators like exposed Mark Halperin to blast Trump for his alleged immoral acts), fueled marches, including one attended by Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist holding up a "Hey Donald, don't try to grab my pus*y sign, yet they were and are still largely silent in the wake of what many of us knew to be reality in their own business for decades.

Where's the instant, large marches, clenched fists and "My Pus*y" signs now? Or was that kind of movement only reserved for Trump, Bill O'Reilly, Roger Ailes and Eric Bolling?

Then, there's Spacey. His kind of abuse was known, but in no shock to anyone, it was an ignored "secret", much like Bryan Singer, and the pedophile scandal of Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash was largely brushed aside, or disgusting excuses issued once a couple of the charges against him were tossed (only due to the charges being past the statute of limitations). After all of that, he was given the benefit of the doubt, and allowed to move on. No outrage. No calls for some kind of punishment, no questioning his history around children for decades. Nothing. There's a "why" answer, but few of the ideological left will never admit to it or honestly address.

Well, there's a new sexual assault scandal brewing, with none other than Star Trek's George "Sulu" Takei:

George Takei Accused of Sexually Assaulting Former Model in 1981

...and former ER star Anthony Edwards reveals how producer Gary Goddard molested him and raped his friend:

Well, if nothing else, can the left stop making fun of Mike Pence and somehow calling him sexist for great sin of not to eating dinner alone with a woman who is not his wife?

I'm not sure what more you want to happen if the statute of limitations had passed. As far as I know, his career's over.

Why? They're completely unrelated. It's sexual assault and harassment versus an out-moded Puritanical view of opposite gender interactions. Pence is practically fundamentalist in his ideas of how to "properly" interact with people who happen to be women. Does he think he can't keep it in his pants? Does he have so little self-control that being alone with a woman is too dangerous for him? On second thought, maybe they are related - is Pence a sexual predator too? One that compensates by never letting himself be alone with women (who aren't his wife)?

Pence is practically fundamentalist in his ideas of how to "properly" interact with people who happen to be women.

Why? Because his version of propriety stems from on his own principles and not the nanny of a human resources training course?

Maintaining a barrier against even the appearance of impropriety is hardly an extreme or out-moded stance and is common in most professions where one person wields power over others.

Does he think he can't keep it in his pants? Does he have so little self-control that being alone with a woman is too dangerous for him?

<shrug>

There have been millions of men and women who, with the best of intentions, fell victim to the conceit of self-control and have made a mess of things. That goes for many things in life, not just sex. We are messy beings that don't always know ourselves. Thinking that you're above the possibility of generating emotional intimacy with another person in close proximity is often delusional. I know of a handful of examples just in my own professional experience.

You don't need to be a sexual predator for it to be good personal policy not to put yourself in a bad position.

It's sexual assault and harassment versus an out-moded Puritanical view of opposite gender interactions.

Oh, the left wing smear machine and those who buy into it whole based on so little.

Pences solution is not practical or healthy. Being alone with a woman who isnt your wife, mother, or sister is not improper, its perfectly normal, because adults can recognize people of the opposite gender as colleagues and peers, not objects of sexual lust. If youre unwilling to be alone with a person of any other demographic other than your own, you have a serious issue. Pence is an unhealthy person.

It comes around--

‘Supergirl,’ ‘Arrow’ Producer Suspended Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations by Warner Bros.

Terrible if true.

For one from a company known for using their shows to aggressively to accuse ideological opposites of every immoral act under the sun, this must be nothing short of a nightmare. Still, if the charges are true, I seriously doubt the production staff and certain series stars will be making speeches and/or holding up signs (see Melissa Benoist) now that one of their own is in trouble for a boatload of sexual abuse.

..or perhaps they will think they're saving face by writing episodes about this kind of abuse...but its easy to imagine their abuser will be a surrogate for Trump, instead of the one in their own backyard.

If I recall, it was just about dining with a woman who is not his wife. Which is hardly impractical. I'm racking my brain to think of the last time I've had dinner alone with a woman that wasn't either a romantic interest or a relative and can't think of any that went beyond literally grabbing a bite when a coworker happened to be present (though I'll grant that I rarely eat out in the first place). Going to dinner alone with someone of another sex is a fairly intimate. And avoiding the appearance of impropriety is itself always a good habit to get into.

I'm sure women come into his office frequently enough without any scandal or drama and he'd just roll his eyes at your broadened generalization. Though it wouldn't shock me if a door remained open.

And no, an open door does not mean deviance or having issues. I had the same policy myself when I worked with children. I did so not for their safety, which was already in no danger, but for my own safety and reputation.

Pence is an unhealthy person.

Pfft.

Keep reaching. It says more about you that you'd try to twist it that far than Pence for modestly gentlemanly behavior.

Pence is no gentleman, hes a creepy old man with antiquated views. If his rule really is just to avoid dinners (is it really just the last meal of the day, or all meals?) alone with women (even his female relatives?), it may look gentlemanly to you, and it may even keep him free of sex scandals, but I think theres a deeper psychological problem with Pence. If he did the same with any other demographic, would it be considered gentlemanly?

By the way, newbie, you really have no call to insult me. We do not agree on much (maybe just that Star Wars is a film series) and we dont get along, but I dont attack you personally. I have never insinuated that youre not a gentleman, for instance, unless youre Pence himself.
