Daryl. Cause he's ****ing awesome, slays mo-fos, rides a motorbike and looks like a rock star. Plus under that smouldering hard exterior he's got a heart of gold. Yeah I have a man-crush.

Carol is pretty cool too, especially in the second episode where she went all ninja gaiden on it.

They're my two favs. Followed by Glenn/Rick/Michone who are pretty much tied even in their awesomeness.

I think his leadership is pretty solid. Sometimes I question his decisions but I think there's not many alternatives to his leadership. Carol maybe but life under her would be so ruthless I'd rather take my chances with rick. Carol is a better adviser. Who else could lead that group?

He has good leadership... but he's a terrible leader sometimes. lol.

so-every/anyone-who is your favorite character and why?

For me the show would tank without Daryl, Glenn, and Michonne, but I've had a soft spot for Abraham ever since his big flashback episode. The idea of a guy pushed thiiiis close to the edge, only to be saved when a moment of pretty stupid serendipity gives him new purpose, made his previous and future scenes all the more tragic, amusing, and profound at the same time.

I find Abraham frustrating because it took so long to get that flashback episode. By that time I had already made up my mind about not caring about him.

I can't deny that the episode was well done, or that he's got an objectively good arc, it was just too late for me by that point.

It doesn't help that I can't really stand Eugene or Rosita or whatever that girls name is.

I hate Eugene a little less now that he's a dork trying to "man up" and redeem himself after all the trouble he caused, but it really bugs me that he's like a Mary Sue for half the comics fans out there, like he's the answer to "What if Big Bang Theory had to fight zombies".

pavonis pretty much summed up what little there is to sum up about Rosita. In her role as Hispanic diversity ambassador, she's been given about as much depth as the average Mos Eisley Cantina customer.

Glen is my favourite. I was always a Luke Skywalker guy and he fits right in to the 'Good' side of things.

Second has to be Carol. There's a lot of moaning and bitching about poor female stereotypes and not enough older women being cast. But Carol is probably the realest woman on telly for me. I like the way she thinks and the choices she makes. Her strength comes from what she's overcome but she isn't a total bloke about it. She is definitely more than the sum of her parts and for me has had the best character development on the show.

I wanted her to go all Rambo on the W-heads last week. I was begging for her to get to that gun store and pick up the big rifle again :)

Carol and Glenn are tied for #1

In both cases, it is because of the transformations their characters made. Carol went from victim and weak link in the group to cold-eyed mama grizzly (in the 1990s sense of the word). Glenn grew from stereotypical wise-cracking sidekick to moral core of the group. Carol went too far and has kind of lost herself in her new life/role, and Melissa McBride does a great job of making the audience feel like she gets off on the rush of controlling her environment through mayhem. She's great. Glenn perhaps didn't go far enough, and his remaining kindness and ability to forgive is a strength, but also a vulnerability. As with McBride, Steven Yeun has really grown with the role -- I don't see them acting anymore; for me, they both are their characters at this point.

Michonne is #3 for similar reasons. But you only asked for favorite.

That's me too. Carol and Darryl are distinctly my two favorites. Darryl has always been a favorite of mine since the beginning, where as Carol went from annoying to favorite (tied). If they ever had a kid together, that child would one day rule the wasteland. Or destroy it...which ever he or she preferred.

Rich has gone through so many phases that he invariably gains and loses favor with me. Farmer Rick sucked, Take no chances Rick is great. Glenn has grown on me over the years since he not only toughened up, but shows incredible poise, character and righteousness...which is a different kind of strength. Michone has a katana which wins..but take that away she is just okay with more interesting characters IMO.

Third tier characters are Abraham, Coral, and Eugene. These characters add flavor. Abraham cracks me up, and he only needs to flex and a walker gets crushed. Son of Rick is indeed son of Rick. He is tough as nails and cool as a cucumber in the face of danger. His bravery inspires. Eugene is good for a laugh and his wimpiness adds some contrast to the group.

Bottom tier peeps are everyone else. Sorry.

Carol. She has the most realistic arc (coming from an abusive past / losing Sophia). She's gives new meaning to the word "practical" while others trip over their own periods of assbrained behavior (ex. Rick nearly getting kicked out because he's hard up for Jessie).

Carl. Yes Carl. He's no nonsense, fully aware of the world, but I enjoy how he tries to maintain his childhood, even while surrounded by serious companions and murderous adult enemies. His playing video games, reading comics & running around the woods with Enid said he's not become what Lori feared in season two--cold. Because he's growing up in this world, in a sense, he's better prepared to handle life's challenges than others who still have long, old memories of a now lost past.

Michonne. She's the normal middle ground between Daryl (pulling away from groups) and Rick (desire for oppressive control over his environment), She did not become the silent assassin stereotype, but has a deep heart with a need to just be normal. Rick was never pushed to her extremes (the loner / walker "pet" days), so when she seeks a regular life, one can sympathize with her, as opposed to Rick, who rarely appreciates anything, other than threatening everyone.

I just started watching this again after not seeing it for a couple seasons and I don't feel like I've missed much.

I also like Carol, Glenn and Daryl most and for the same reasons stated here. Everyone else just seems like a cartoon character cliche to me.

But the sheer number of zombies is mystifying me...they all seem to kill scores of them all day, every day, so where are all the new ones coming from?

Also, how easy is it to kill a person by stabbing them in the head? Are zombies different in this way or is this just one of those things that happens on teevee that would never happen in real life that I just have to overlook?

7 billion people in the world makes for a lot of potential zombies! Weren't they near Atlanta? Has to be millions living there!

99% of the population is dead out of a population of 318 million. In other words, there are about 315 million walkers to deal with.

Also, how easy is it to kill a person by stabbing them in the head? Are zombies different in this way or is this just one of those things that happens on teevee that would never happen in real life that I just have to overlook?

With a sharp knife, it is very easy, even with a non-rotting skull (and assuming the person isn't maneuvering to defend themselves). It's actually harder to get the blade out than in.

With the Walkers, I'd imagine skull piercing to be a lot easier, due to decay, previous injuries, etc. that's one area that I love to watch, knowing how much fun the effects/makeup team has with this (e.g. the glee they get from adding more rot and squishiness as the series moves beyond the original outbreak).

I enjoyed the latest ep. The whole aikido monk thing as salvation was cool. Nice little breather from all the gore-porn.

Part of me hopes this A+ episode is part of a season-long warm-up to an eventual mind-blowing take-no-prisoners showdown between Morgan and Carol. Another part of me hopes it isn't because we'd end up losing one or both of them. But oh, what an episode it could be.
