Totally forgot to post here. Obviously, I remember him (and think of him first) as a broadcaster. His voice was one that I always identified with sports, growing up hearing him on MNF, the Wide World of Sports, and the like.

What was interesting after he passed, though, was hearing all the talk about him as a player. Some of it I knew, but some of it I had no idea. Like, I knew he went to quite a few Pro Bowls (eight, to be precise), but I never realized that he was a Pro Bowler at three different positions - running back, receiver, and corner. Or that, despite the fact that his career ended over fifty years ago and most of it was spent as a running back, Gifford is still the Giants second all-time leading receiver. In fact, he is still the franchise's all-time leader in TDs scored - and one of only six men in NFL history to have at least 30 rushing TDs and 30 TD receptions.

Tack on six All-Pro selections, an MVP award, and a championship ring and that's one hell of a career.
