Chronic illness

So I learned that my mother is slowly developing symptoms of Parkinson's disease. She's had the tremors for years now. It's not fatal but definitely debilitating and can lead to needing long-term care. Sort of sucks.

But I also worry just a little, because I also shake-- pretty much all the time. The first degree relative developing the condition increases my chances a bit. But my years of cocaine abuse really heightens the odds. But then I also take lithium, and tremors are one of the most common side effects. So I don't know.

It's scary to think about living with a disease like that. I remember being a bit scared of my grandfather when I was young because he shook so violently. It took many years to move from a mild annoyance to debilitating, though. He lived well into his 80s with only the last year or 2 in a personal care home.

I hope your mom is able to stay healthy for a long time.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, and hope the best for you as well, Evo. I second Cashmere's and THT's posts, too.
