ShadowDog
Anyone check it out? I'm into the first episode. Only comment so far is I don't believe any human culture would be stuck in the 50s. Cultures evolve. Its human nature. It wouldn't evolve the same way ours did but it WOULD evolve.
Driver
I tried-- but it crapped the bed pretty quick for me. I WANTED to like it...

Driver
First, the cinematography was terrible. It was so bland. It's scifi, anything goes! Second, it was trying to be too much at once-- a murder mystery, a scifi epic, a critique of social hierarchies, a conspiracy story. The more you cram in, the less time you have to devote to each. Third, the major plot twist undoes everything the show has been pitched as.
ShadowDog
All valid points. My problems were two-fold. 1) As I said culture evolves. Its human nature. No way any culture stays static for 50 years. I don't buy it. Their culture would have evolved into something barely recognizable. 2) the mutiny makes no sense. Oh, so you want them to turn around and go back to Earth? It takes as long to do that as it does to just keep going. Either way you're talking about almost 50 years travel so who cares? We needed a rant explaining whatever their bs philosophy is. I did like how Gil Bellows' character played the grad at the beginning. He convinced me he knew nothing. I thought the story would be him finding out what his father had been up to. Great misdirection.
