I feel ya Burt.

Despite all the bickering, this was actually a lot less cartoonish and more substantial than the first debate on Fox News, believe it or not. Not that you'd know it from the WWE-like promotion of this event, but there were actually a few policy and procedural matters discussed this time.

As was the case last month, the only ones that don't make me want to vomit in my hat are Christie and Fiorina. Again, so Fozzie doesn't attack me: this doesn't mean I would support or even vote for one of them in a "lesser of two evils" scenario.

  • Paul was clearly stoned
  • Huckabee is going to start speaking in tongues any minute, but that's OK!
  • Rubio actually had a good showing, though his opening prop (water bottle - really?) was unnecessarily and diminished him a little
  • Cruz is a murderous pull-string doll. Why can't anybody else see this?
  • Carson did himself no favors. Alternated between comatose and incoherent, 'cept for that brief exchange about vaccines
  • Trump sounded ridiculous when talking about foreign policy, and was strangely subdued aside from a few jabs at Paul and Bush
  • Bush seemed whiny and defensive, though to be fair, he did a lot better this time. "He kept us safe" has to hurt him down the road
  • Walker evokes visceral disgust in me. I am sorry, but much like Bush, I cannot judge him fairly
  • Fiorina had the best applause lines. Will be interesting to see how the PP attack affect her, given that the video in question is clearly a selectively edited hack job (to put it kindly)
  • Kasich came off like a child pretending to be the adult in the room
  • Christie is less fat now and his "It's about you!" mantra was a weak-ass gimmick. He may have tied Bush for third place, but that's still pretty meh

The article does point out Trump being a public individual longer than Fiorina, but as with all things in life, its what you do with that time, and Trump has been viewed as a boorish ass at best. His reality TV escapades only reinforced that perception.
