At best-- he could serve as a backstory, the guy that beat Thanos and scattered the gems-- explaining why they are spread out now. Anything he does in the actual Infinity Gauntlet story could be serviced by a gem-empowered Star Lord or Thor just as easily.

Ever since the announcement yesterday, I've been wondering how far Marvel will go to parallel the actual Infinity Gauntlet comic.

For example, will Thanos really erase half of the universe just to impress Death? That's both pretty grim and ridiculous for the Marvel movies. I know we all have fond memories of that whole story from the comics and old cartoons, but it's pretty cheezy and out there and will need a lot of modernization.

"Greetings, Earthlings. You are in the presence of...Adam Warlock!"

"Adam the Warlock? You're a magician?"

"No, no. Men call me...Adam Warlock!"

"So you can do spells? Like Harry Potter?"

"I am a perfect being from beyond!"

"Is that a yes or no on the magic thing?"

"I am what your people would call an 'alien'."

"So they don't have magic on your world?"

"...look, it's just a name."

"Does 'warlock' mean something different in your world's version of English that you're speaking?"

"...we are done. I depart now for DC, where my name will fit right in. Have fun with Thanos."
