Italy’s workplace laws helped him grandly cheat the system. Last weekend, he confessed to a local newspaper in Sardinia the relative ease with which he legally bilked his company and the Italian government for his salary, benefits, and, now, a generous state pension. The Kurgan 902
F*****g jerk had to spoil it by saying something. He should have kept it a secret. He's ruined it for everybody now.
RamonAtila 92
Super Mario didn't go to his plumbing job for 30 years, but he had an excuse.
RamonAtila 92
But on a serious note, I just don't get it. After a month calling in sick, how do they not fire this guy? Was he with the same company for 30 years? How do you cut a paycheck for a guy that worked 0 hours? It just don't make sense to me!
Darth Krawlie 5,447
Did you read the article?
RamonAtila 92
Yes I did! And it only left me more perplexed. Did you really read what I wrote?
RamonAtila 92
Like, what would have been helpful information to me: is the work paid by the hour, or is it a fixed yearly salary? If it were the latter, that would make it easier to be guaranteed your contracted pay if you didn't show up. I'm just saying, I'm a guy sending out paychecks, and I gotta write one for Mr. Carlo Cani who hasn't showed up this week, let alone the past fifteen years....how the hell do I figure out what to pay him? I don't mean I don't believe it. The article comes from a reliable source. I just need more information.
Ms. Spam 1,827
This just makes socialism more appealing.
The Human Torch 1,074
You're thinking like an American, Ramon. In Italy all life different.
Evolence 520
I would be inclined to do this if I got more than 3 sick days a year. In the past year, I had to burn every bit of sick and vacation time when I was hospitalized. Yay! Fun vacation!
Ms. Spam 1,827
I get two sick days a year.
Destiny Skywalker 1,883
I get 10, but then I get to bank half of what I don't use. Cmae in handy on my first maternity leave. This time I just took my 12 weeks of FMLA unpaid because I knew I'd need it when the kids started daycare again. Sure enough, burned 2 sick days in my first 3 weeks back, one of those on day 4! Evolence 520
That's what is frustrating is that we can't even bank unused time from year to year. It's like, the company is so stingy to not even allow one illness per calendar quarter. You think they'd at least let you accrue time (or partial time) for those times when you have devastating, legitimate illness that takes you out for a week+.
Destiny Skywalker 1,883
Very true. Unfortunately, my company seems to be the exception and not the rule.
Guest
Unfortunately my company doesn't have a real presence in Maine. I get 50 days a year for sick leave, 10 vacation days and 3 personal days. Plus paid time for doctors appointments, funerals and stuff.
Cerina 2,576
50!?!?!?
Destiny Skywalker 1,883
Is that for disability or family leave or is that just straight up that you guys can use up to 50 days randomly scattered throughout the year for sick leave? Because if so, WOW.
Evolence 520
That is insane if you get 50 paid sick days!
Guest
I work for an amazing company.
Evolence 520
Tell them I work from home, so it doesn't really matter. They can just email some busy work stuff and I'll send it back when I'm done.
