Ms. Spam
When you hunger for a sammich or you want to make toast or it is Sunday morning and you want to make french toast or have BBQ sauce you want to sop up, what bread do you keep in the house? I totally just read the label on plain white bread for the first time. It never occurred for me to do this because it is bread. There is high fructose corn syrup in it! OMG! So I've switched to this Orowheat bread called White Italian Loaf because it is made with true bread ingredients. Wheat is for hippies. What bread do you eat in your household because I'm totally curious.
Driver
I'm anti bread. Never buy it.
Evolence
Plain white, loaf/slicing bread. What ever is cheapest per slice.
Guest
We normally eat Arnold Whole Wheat, but we really don't eat a ton of bread. I can't remember the last time I bought white bread, probably over 10 years ago.
The Kurgan
I'm anti bread. Never buy it.I hear ya. What an awful band they were.
Pong Messiah
I keep sourdough English muffins on hand for emergency breakfast sandwiches, but that's about it.
Destiny Skywalker
Currently, it's Costco-brand organic whole-wheat bread. Trust me, I already know how pretentious we are.
Guest
I think that the Costco-brand helps some. At least it's not Whole Foods.
monkeygirl
Sourdough for most toast, BLTs, grilled cheese and chicken sandwiches. Prefer Franz Waterfront Sourdough but if I want regular-size bread, La Brea Garlic sourdough. Dave's Killer Good Seed or Blues for any red meat sandwich, anything with strong cheese or tuna salad. Stale french bread for bread pudding or French toast. Safeway on Proctor makes their own french loafs for their subs but they'll sell me one for 99cents-that for garlic bread with which to sop up Italian/tomato sauce meals. Copper
occasionally I buy the preservative free sprouted wheat stuff from Trader Joe's. Then I bring it home and make a sandwich with it and think "wtf was I thinking".
Pong Messiah
Then I bring it home and make a sandwich with it and think "wtf was I thinking".Same here. Often wonder when and how I lost the taste for sandwiches. Used to love 'em. Maybe it's the lack of bread causing a loss of taste? English muffins are merely egg/cheese/hashbrown/bacon/hot sauce holders as far as I'm concerned. I never say "Damn, that was an amazing English muffin." Hot dog buns are the only other bread I can think of that I ever use, and again, more out of habit and to make picking up the other stuff easier than because OMG hot dog buns taste the best ever. Ms. Spam
I am totally jelly of you people that can NOT buy or eat bread.
Pong Messiah
It just doesn't taste that good anymore. One exception: if I were able to find/remember the bakery where I used to buy those big ass sourdough cannonballs, I'd eat that all day just toasted and covered in butter. Good stuff. Might even make a good sandwich, but not going to bet on it
Cashmere
I always get whole wheat for normal use and potato rolls for hot dogs/hamburgers/pulled pork. My husband eats 80% of the bread consumed in our home because I'm not that into sandwiches.
RelentlessMalice
The only bread I buy is sugar free and it can be hard to find and is usually a dollar more in cost but I do everything possible to keep away from sugar. Sugar is so bad for you.
Evolence
About the only bread that I might splurge on is rye bread (with whole seed) if used for a tomato sandwich.
monkeygirl
There's only one really reliable bread around here that has no fructose in it-it's a dark loaf. Not bad but the slices are too big to use two and too small to use one to make a sandwich, so I rarely buy it. I haven't had rye in years. My grandfather used to eat pumpernickel. Seth-how do you live without sandwiches?
NumberSix
There's still one company out there making edible low-carb wheat bread. I can never remember their name, but I know the package when I see it. Sometimes I'll treat myself to Pepperidge Farms' Whole Grain Oatmeal bread when we have a coupon. I can not do plain white bread anymore.
Driver
I slapped Copper with a piece of bread once. Just remembered that.
Burt
After eating whole grain wheat for so long, plain white bread is just disgusting. It's too sweet. I would like to make my own in a homemade brick oven when I have more free time.
Ms. Spam
It is all that corn syrup. No wonder I was so addicted to it. All those kids schools lunches! Also, Evolence! I love love love tomato sandwiches! Pumpernickel is great! I also loves me a cheddar Jalapeño loaf that Central market makes. Sourdough with turkey, provolone, tomato, lettuce and red onion is just the best lunch at school ever.
Burt
I had to google that to make sure I didn't misunderstand you. I am flabbergasted that corn syrup is in white bread. How...unnecessary.
Odine
I like sourdough, and ciabata loaves mostly. Can smash a loaf of olive cob ciabata with olive oil in an afternoon. Probably not the best thing to do but I ****ing love bread.
Ryn
I'll buy the sprouted kind, if a meal needs it.
monkeygirl
High fructose corn syrup is in virtually EVERY mass produced bread. In fact, HFCS in in virtually every mass produced food. I honestly believe this is what's driving the obesity epidemic.
