David
that's the rumor: http://www.movieswithbutter.com/blogs/alfonso-cuaron-direct-harry-potter-spin-fantastic-beasts-777599?_r=true while i'm completely on board with this, i'll still always think 'what could have been' if cuaron had directed just one more potter film. azkaban is just the best. still, looking forward to seeing the wizarding world expand with these films. ShadowDog
I'm the other way around. I thought he butchered my favorite book in the series. But each to their own.
David
yeah, we've had the debate a million times in the potter forum. i really hated you sometimes, lol.
Ryn
It's my favorite film in the series too, but, then, that's likely due to never having read the books.

ShadowDog
That's cute but you know what we mean. We had one shot ... One ... At seeing book 3 made into a live action movie. It was only gonna happen once and he blew it.
Darth Krawlie
I can tell this has been a long debate and I have no interest in starting it up again, but I dunno. Maybe it's cuz I saw the movie before reading, but I definitely don't agree.
ShadowDog
That's cool. It comes down to a matter of taste. Me being mad you liked HP 3 would be like me being mad you like fried chicken just because I don't like it. That would be retarded.

Destiny Skywalker
I'm with Dexter. Hated the movie with a burning passion. But he's a good monster guy so he's probably the right one for this. But his style has gotten kind of predictable so I'm still pretty meh.
Brett
Is there no thread for Fantastic Beasts? Is this place really that dead? Liked it a lot, the first thirty minutes kind of meanders, but I like that it doesn't feel the need to hold your hand. Nice balance of mature themes and magical whimsy. This was even the first time I really enjoyed a Colin Farrell performance! The wonders! One thing that bothered me was whoever that was playing the president of the magicus (or whatever it's called), she was awful. Maybe it was more glaring because of how good the acting was from everyone else, but geez. She was like a cardboard cutout with a speak-n-spell reciting the lines. Guest
This place is pretty dead, but I think more importantly, just not many people left care about this movie.
Poe Dameron
I saw it opening night. Had fun. Though I appreciate the pains the folks who didn't read the books but saw the original movies must have gone through, because it was tough to follow some of the lore at times. Lucas1138
Thought it kinda sucked to be honest. Considered walking out 40 minutes into it or so.
The Choc
Overall I think it was pretty good but I actually think it did a better job of setting up the future movies than in being a great movie on it's own. My quesiton is this: If this movie takes place in 1926 and the duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald takes place in 1945 then this series of movies will be pretty spread out. Poe Dameron
Yeah, I will admit the idea of this broadening out to Grindelwald is what sent me to see it in the first place. And I wouldn't have built the franchise around Eddie Redmayne. Still, Rowling set in 1920s New York? Sign me up.
The Choc
Yeah, honestly it would have probably been a better movie if Farrells character was the main guy. Set him up as a good guy trying to figure out what is going on in NY, as the movie goes on we start to maybe question him a bit, then at the end have the reveal.
