Darth Lohr
Color me surprised, but this show was actually quite good! Except for one little detail... Clancy Brown died, those bastards! ...I don't think I had a single complaint about this show. I went in with middle of the road expectations, at best, expecting it to have a slightly cheesier than Grimm feel. However, I really appreciated the more Supernatural-like seriousness they approached the, well, supernatural. The two main characters work well together and the season preview makes it look like there's plenty of excitement to come. This show was honestly barely on my radar, but now I'm really looking forward to it!
ShadowDog
5 minutes in I thought it was a cheesy trainwreck. But it got better. I'm in for now.
Pong Messiah
I liked it quite a lot, but I think they had waaaaaay too much exposition forced into the pilot. It really stilted the dialogue -- laughably at times -- and prevented the writers from having more fun unwrapping what is really a pretty outrageously entertaining story. Honestly, it was so fast-paced, by the time the horseman rode off, it felt like the end of the second or third episode. Right now, I give it a solid B+. Once (if?) they slow down a bit and chew the scenery, I'll prolly like it even better.

NumberSix
Just watched it. That was insane. I'm still not sure why Crane was a free man at the end, or how their Earth's sun moves like lightning, but somehow those bits of goofiness just made it even better. I'm in. Driver
All my usual sources for opinion say yay.. but it's Kurtzman and Orci... which is such a fat NAY in my world. But if Pong, Six and SD are behind it...
NumberSix
I reserve the right to about-face in a heartbeat if the pilot was a singular anomaly and the next few episodes are straight outta Suckville.
Pong Messiah
Same here. It's crazy stupid fun... but there are so many things in the pilot that could have been developed and played out with far more satisfaction if they'd just trusted the viewer not to flip the channel if the action lets up for 30 seconds. For example: Harold working with the forces of darkness coulda just been hinted at it for now and left room for some more background on the awesome (and all-too-quickly-decapitated) priest-wizard dude. As it stood, I felt no real sense of betrayal when Andy went dark side; I felt no real pang of loss when the wise old wizard died, despite the cool chain visuals. The relationship between Abbie and Ichabod offers the writers a ton of fun opportunities to quirk up mismatched buddy cop clichés. If the show can trust enough in the intelligence of the viewers to allow it, it could be a blast watching that develop.
ShadowDog
Yeah I agree. And just to be clear, I'm not sold yet. The second episode could eat it raw now that their budget normalizes.
Pong Messiah
I think this has to be my favorite brain burn from the pilot: Yeah, they didn't have these guns in the 18th century. I think he likes it.
Driver
Watched the pilot, was entertained, thought it was cute and kinda fun. Sat down to watch episode 2 and realized I had zero interest or investment and decided to skip it.
The Choc
Producers should be happy that they actually changed the name of the town to "Sleepy Hollow" 10 or so years ago, because I don't think "North Tarrytown" would have the same appeal. NumberSix
The Fox execs could've fixed that. "How about just 'Tarrytown'? It's cleaner."
Pong Messiah
Eh, if they would have just let Serilda not blow up at the end of the second episode, I would have liked it a lot more. Gonna open up a thousand questions pertaining to a larger story arc while chasing down a Monster of the Week? OK.
NumberSix
News from today: the show's already been renewed! Whee! Caveat: season 1 will only be 13 episodes, no back-9 order. As for this week: episode #3 was just okay, though if I'm wondering if all the demons-of-the-week will only speak Greek. It's a little repetitive. Pong Messiah
Not liking the Demon-of-the-week thing. Liked #3 better than the previous outing though. Sleepy-demon was neat looking, and I'm liking the addition/backstory of crazysis so far!
Good God a Bear
I'm actually digging this show. I hope it moves from the demon of the week thing as well though. That's why I stopped watching Grimm then I understand it started getting good.
Pong Messiah
Grimm, for better or worse, has stuck with its Wesen-of-the-week formula, and managed to wrap it with some semblance of a story arc. It's grown into what it is, and I like it. But while I enjoy and will continue watching Grimm, I really do hope they get beyond that with Sleepy Hollow. Jedi Cool
This is a far more entertaining show than I expected. I don't normally watch shows with "faceless nightmare monsters", but I'm finding it's not horrible. The relationship between Crane and Abbie is fun. I love the fact that Crane is not the cliched Fish Out of Water who thinks moving vehicles are monsters, tries to figure out how to free the small people trapped in the television and refers to everything else as sorcery. He's intelligent enough to be able to adapt to his changed environment. A++++ to the conversation he had at the beginning of last night's episode while sitting in the car. Pong Messiah
The convo was great. I'm glad they're resolving the tension between Abbie and Jennifer so quickly, too. They have a lot of potential as a cool thinker vs. warm feeler pairing. They don't need to have a negative Spock vs. McCoy vibe or hold on to old grudges to work. Darth Lohr
OK, I'm horribly behind this season and based on the date of the last post, I have no idea if any of you are still watchin', but this is still great news! Well, the first part is - we'll have to wait and see about the second part, I suppose...
