Mara Jade Skywalker
Turning Luke into an anti-Luke would be boring.I disagree! We need a little craziness. It doesn't have to be another Anakin thing. The Juniors always go eccentric and crazy. Look at Carnage, Scott Evil, Glenn from Seed of Chucky. I'm actually fine with the idea of Luke being eccentric and kind of nutty, like the weird crazy uncle. (Because Mark Hamill would own that.) I mean, if you watch his background expressions in the OT, he's kind of hilarious already. But a hermit or evil? Nah. Ugh, I'm so torn because I hate all the super duper Force powers of the prequels and the cartoons, but I'd be lying if I said a part of me didn't want to see Luke do all that stuff, too. Mara Jade Skywalker
Yup. The government not trusting the Jedi has actually been pretty much the status quo since the New Jedi Order series started in 1999 and I haaaate it. I'd rather Luke take the Jedi and become their own autonomous organization.

Old Biff from the Future
I really like the fact that they have dropped the EPISODE from the marketing. Having just SW: The Force Awakens harkens back to the OT. I did like the prequels a little ( minus the bad dialog, poor CGI and redundant scenes) but it wasn't the same as the OT trilogy. Lucas1138
I've seen that "harkens back to the OT" argument before, but wasn't A New Hope the only one without "Episode..." when it was released?
Darth Krawlie
In the scroll, yeah. But "Episode #" being in the title and marketing only happened in the prequels. ESB and ROTJ were referred to as just that, or Star Wars: ESB and Star Wars: ROTJ, even though the episode titles were in the scrolls. Hell, I still refer to the prequels more by the episode number as opposed to the title, probably because of that. I definitely do not, and I don't think anyone does, do that for the OT. I wonder how it'll end up playing out for the ST... so far I'm still more Episode 7 than TFA.
Lucas1138
You know. That's been so ingrained in my mind that I never really considered it. You're totally right.
RamonAtila
I just cant imagine watching ESB in the cinema in 1980 and seeing 'Episode V' in the scroll. I woulda lost my marbles.

Mara Jade Skywalker
People are claiming Regal jumped the gun on that announcement. They've taken it down on Facebook and Twitter.
Rogue 3
I was expecting it to be shown ahead of the 3rd Hobbit film in a couple of weeks time - can't wait to see it!
Driver
I could drive an hour to Irvine. But I won't. I learned my lesson in 1999 when I went to see the Waterboy for the TPM trailer. I'm not falling for this trick again.

Mara Jade Skywalker
Okay, so Regal did jump the gun on the announcement but Bad Robot has confirmed the trailer is happening. Releasing an 88 second trailer in select theatres is the stupidest move, JJ. Seriously. There's this thing called THE INTERNET. Use it.
Driver
This isn't about fan service, or marketing even. This is about Regal trying to use geek fervor to their advantage buy being exclusive trailer rights and pumping it to places where they need a money bump. It'll be on the internet within days, legally or bootlegged, and in theaters wide within a week.
Darth Krawlie
Looks like it's 30 theaters now. I'm still bummed I'll be out of town, especially since I try to go to the theater as often as possible (which happens so rarely these days), but yeah it'll be on the internet in no time. Not too upset about it.
Lucas1138
I could buy in on this if it were actually available in every state. But it's not, so this is dumb.
Guest
As a result of this I will continue to not drive far away from everything to go to the one Regal theater in central Ohio.

Durty D
This is an attempt to drive people back to cinemas - by creating demand - What it will actually do is encourage more people to pirate the trailer and post it online - and if you create that sort of environment for the trailer don't be surprised if it happens when the film hits theatres. Odine
It'll be online on Friday anyways.. Why get worked up?

As Mara said, it's 2014. A couple of people may drive out to some of those 30 cinemas in the US. The rest of the world will just download a shitty bootleg. Mara Jade Skywalker
It'll be online on Friday anyways.. Why get worked up?It'll be online in the form of shitty YouTube bootlegs. Do they want people to see the trailer that way? Or would they rather have people download it from the Official Site?
Driver
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze0t_fMORaw I have to admit, for a moment I almost fell for this one. Ive never had a hard time spotting obvious fakes, but this one... I WANTED to buy it, but the pacing seemed amateurish. If the sound mix had been better and the cinematography more professional I'd have bought it-- they have some assets here that I'm shocked at-- like old Luke in his robe-- that shot looked real. Honestly what tipped me off was the poor cg of the chrome trooper and the x-wing designs being OG and not what we've seen a preview of.
