(Surely a suit that can carry a car, smack Thor around and push the SHIELD hellicarrier engine back up to speed can carry more than 4 people :p )

I was thinking that too but rewatching it, both Tony and the suit are pretty beat up. Maybe at that point its capacity is pretty low. Then again, I'm not too concerned because that just seems like such an awesome sequence that I probably wouldn't make that logical leap.

Oddly, in the movie else, Tony is the only one who fully trusts banner. That's said, given past rampages, Tony might build a suit in case he needs to take down the Hulk... But just cause he has the suit doesn't mean Hulk would show up. He could use it otherwise with the mention of why it was made.

I'm really becoming disengaged with adapting too much from the comics. There other directions this kind of thing can go.

Just nitpicking, but how could something tear a hole completely through his armor and not, you know, have ripped his arm to shreds?

Theatrical trailer. Again, hoping the people who put these together aren't showing too much.

(Any filmmaker or talent that suggests a crazy accent for the villain needs to be slapped. "But he needs a distinctive quirk!")

I still can't believe they're having The Mandarin in a film that will be seen by real people and they're calling him the Mandarin. It's worse than Iron Monger. it's barely a step above from just calling him The Chinaman.

He looks way more Arab than Chinese to me. CLEARLY IT'S A CODE NAME. he probably isn't even magical.

Anyone guess what's happening around the 1:48 mark and some nearly-nude dude flipping someone in armor?

You know, at first I was really thrown by them using Ben Kingsley, because the Mandarin is from China, always appeared quite Asian in the comics & cartoons, and was supposed to be a descendant of Genghis Khan. Well, that last part doesn't mean a whole lot, really, because genetic studies have shown like 1 in 200 men are descended from Genghis Khan. Then recently, I was reminded while reading that, though he had a Chinese father, the Mandarin's mother was actually English. That makes Kingsley a pretty darn good casting, as his father was East Indian and his own mother was British, as well.

Yes, comics forum moderator.

In the comics, Extremis was supposed to be somebody's answer to the super solider serum, using nanobots to reprogram the body's individual parts to work at optimum levels-- but it went super wrong and turned people into super-monsters. Tony ended up getting infected, and merged with his armor in weird ways. His mind could wifi to anything, his armor could be broken down into nanobits and absorbed into his body-- hence not needing to carry around that suitcase for the armor. They've dialed it back in recent years cause it was getting a little silly.

Pretty sure on the movie side they are just making human plus types so we don't have to see armored people fighting more armored people.

I think that was the same argument made for him portraying Ghandi.

I just didn't remember such a situation. GOSH! (And I got a "Prometheus" mutant vibe.)

Really, when I look at them side-by-side, I think what made him not look "Mandarin-ish" to me isn't really his facial features, but rather that they gave him a full beard instead of the sort of Fu Manchu/soul patch thing the character often has elsewhere.

The Mandarin was always one of my least favorite IM villains, so I'm cool with just about any changes they make. They couldn't possibly "ruin" him for me.

The fall of the Soviet Union ruined the chances for the Iron Man movie I really wanted.
