I always imagined someone with an Omar Sharif look as Ras and Chow Yun Fat look as The Mandarin.

I agree. Iron Man 2 should have had the Mandarin. Iron Man 1 was a good movie, not just a good comic movie. Iron Man 2 had its moments but was far inferior to the first one.
Mandarin... fiiiiinally. geez. Looks good to me, but my expectations are non-existent after the last one.
I like how Ben Kingsley looks more like the Mandarin in every other role he's ever played than he does in this movie. He looks like wandered off the Hobbit set.
Yeah Kingsley would have looked better with a goatee and a shaved head, or a skull cap a la Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon 1980. I mean Ben Kingsley is known for his bald head. But I am glad he is playing Mandarin, anyway.

No it wasn't awful. And to be fair it captured the 1980s alcoholic Iron Man pretty well. I didn't even mind Vanko. But the ending with the drones and the Stark Expo transparently analogous to Disney World (curious timing considering Marvel is now owned by Disney), along with the Disney like 8MM films of Daddy Stark, plus the recast of Rhodes, just all rubbed me the wrong way.
The second one gets bagged on a lot, but it isn't awful. I just think the sum wasn't greater than its parts. Some good story elements, with some cool scenes, but, on the whole, that all didn't quite come together.

What saves it though is that it's fun, and RDJ could act a page of the phone book and charm an audience. It's one of those movies that's fun to watch,, just don't try to make sense of it after the fact.

I didn't like War Machine's origin, just getting into one of Stark's old suits and being able to use it with no training (and no Jarvis?)
It was implied that Rhodes had used the suits before, and Stark was preparing to give the suits to Rhodes anyway, as he thought he was dying. Furthermore, Stark realized what he had become, what he'd done, and let Rhodey have the suit, hence why he was able to take it so easily.
