Are we surprised I checked this one out?

For the first half hour or so, I was like, "yes, yes, we all saw Batman Begins, get on with it." Then, it got interesting. I'll give it a shot for another week at least.

Anyone else? It wasn't half bad, really. And there's archery!

He kind of moved like that guy from the beginning of Casino Royale. I forget the name of the sport, but maybe he did that on the island for five years. I thought the show was okay and will tune in again.

Edit: Found the name of it on wikipedia Parkour:

(abbreviated PK) is a training discipline focused on overcoming obstacles. Athletes aim to move from point A to point B in the fastest and most efficient way possible. It combines a variety of movements like running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, leaping, and rolling.

t

Copy and pasted that and now I can't get rid of this weird formatting. lol

i lol every time i see commercials for this. especially at the end where they tell us the network. well, that figures.

why does everybody feel the need to use archers in everything now? most of the time they're unnecessary and completely outmatched.

LOTR - necessary/made sense

The Walking Dead - necessary/made sense

......................................................................................^^^before the trend^^^

Hunger Games - stupid

Brave - goofy

Avengers - kinda lame, totally impractical, although the origin did exist before this trend...but still.

Once Upon a Time - really? snow white? lol

Arrow - gawd another one?

Crysis 3 - mutlli million dollar nano suit...new weapon, bow and arrow. at least it doesn't drain your cloak power.

did i miss anything that's not a period piece?

**** sakes! these numbers are sickening!

2001 lotr (doesn't really count, though)

2010 walking dead

...

2011 once upon a time

2012 hunger games

2012 brave

2012 avengers

2012 arrow

2012 revolution

2013 crysis 3

there's also game of thrones...although it is a period piece, does the girl on there favor the weapon over any other? if so, i would put it on this list .

Okay, serious answer - Walking Dead, Hunger Games, and Revolution are post-apocalyptic. It's a lot easier to make a bow and a quiver of arrows than it is to make firearms. Plus, they're WAY quieter, which makes total sense for Walkers that are drawn to noise / high risk poaching for survival / I haven't watched Revolution but I assume there's a reason for quiet hunting and defense.

Hawkeye and Green Arrow both have precedent comic books before the trend. When it comes to (Green) Arrow, he learned to survive on a remote island - again, easier ranged weapon to make/obtain (he so didn't make the recurve in the show, though. That ****'s professional), and way quieter than a gun in circumstances that require a ranged weapon that people can't hear for miles around.

Brave is technically a period/fantasy piece. Merida wouldn't be gunslinging any more than Legolas would. Same for Once Upon a Time.

I don't even know what Crysis 3 is.

And you missed Jennifer Gardner's Elektra, and Jessica Biel's character in Blade 3. Oh, and Buffy, for that matter. All pre-trend.

So, I reiterate. Your mom.

apparently icy din't read post #9...i said it was necessary in walking dead, and i mentioned the preexistence of the comic stories. i'm pointing out how so many shows/movies are highlighting bow and arrows suddenly after walking dead. it's getting old, kinda goofy, and definitely getting run into the ground for me.

I did. I pointed out how it's equally necessary in the other post-apocalyptic stories, and also mentioned that not only does Arrow have the comic book source, but is also kind of a post-apocalyptic hero transplanted on a modern day urban scenario, which makes archery make sense in context. I also pointed out more instances of archery in your pre-trend timeline. And The Walking Dead more followed the trend than led the trend. The Hunger Games was published in 2008. Brave was announced in 2008 (as The Bear and The Bow, so they clearly didn't add that aspect in post-trend). The Avengers was first announced in 2005. AMC started work on The Walking Dead in 2010, and Daryl is a TV exclusive character.

More like:

15th c. Robin Hood

15th c. William Tell

1922: Douglas Fairbanks' Robin Hood

1941: The Green Arrow

1954: Lord of the Rings (written in the '30's)

1964: Hawkeye

1973: Disney's Robin Hood

1991: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

1997: Buffy The Vampire Slayer

2000: The source of a certian popular show

2001: Lord of the Rings movie debut

2002: Inu Yasha on Cartoon Network

2004: Blade: Trinity

2005: Elektra

2005: Percy Jackson and the Olympians (archery becomes prominent later in the series, which concluded in 2009)

2005: Avengers movie announced

2006: BBC's Robin Hood

2008: The Hunger Games (book)

2008: Brave (then The Bear and the Bow) announced

2010: The Walking Dead

2000's: Somewhere in here, The Green Arrow was featured on Smallville, too.

2011: Once Upon a Time

2011: Immortals

2012: The Hunger Games movie debut

2012: Brave movie debut

2012: The Avengers movie debut

2012: Arrow

2012: Revolution

2013: Crysis 3 (whatever that is)

Yes, there's a nice big clump at 2012, but I'd place the start of the trend at 2001.

WRONG! walking dead 2003 (LOTR 1937). **** hunger games. you're missing my point. and i don't care anymore. just wondering why hollywood's got a boner for bow and arrows. it has become a fad, and i don't like it. crysis 3 is a video game, and it will kick so much ass. it's funny that there's a multi-million dollar suit...and a crossbow is now available for some reason. i think i'll just use the silencer on my guns, thank you.

WRONG! walking dead 2003 (LOTR 1937).

AMC started work on The Walking Dead in 2010, and Daryl is a TV exclusive character.

It's all guns in the comic. Unless they changed that later, I only read through volume 7 or 8... the very end of the Governor storyline, whatever that was.

From Wikipedia:

It was decided for economic reasons to publish The Lord of the Rings as three volumes over the course of a year from 21 July 1954 to October 1955, thus creating the now familiar Lord of the Rings trilogy

Also from Wikipedia, Modern Military and Paramilitary Use of Crossbows.

I get your point, it's a fad. You don't have to like it. But you're basing your conclusions on incomplete data. And none of it is being done in an "unnecessary" way.

I watched it, it was ok. Stupid question though, is he all agile and tumblerrific because he spent five years on the island getting that way or is he an actual "super" hero somehow? I'm confused.

Not according to the comic although the tv serie could have changed that. See that mask in the tip of the stick next to the bonfire ? It belonged to a man whose reflexes and physical conditions were artifially elevated through a serum. So if he was on the island with Oliver Queen, Green Arrow might have partaken with the same serum.

SPOILERS! :p

What is it with The CW? I was glad that Beauty and the Beast wasn't a werewolf show like I thought it would be, but

wtf is with all these Incredible Hulks?

Also, one of my comments on Arrow was "He's a superhero who is training to be on Ninja Warrior. I WILL CONQUER MOUNT MIDORIYAMA!"
