Literally the only screencapI could find from my tv broadcasting career that didn't
have a graphic over my shoulder.

Welcome to coverage of the 2012 NFF Draft. I'm Garrison Carr, NFF owner, fan, beat-writer, and usurper of league manager powers. I know I'm no Mathew McConaughey but me and that second chin from excessive collegiate drinking will do our best to give you the very best draft coverage over the next month. But first, let's toss a few rules out there:

* * *

Know when you're up and plan ahead!
Please be mindful of your current draft position during the draft. If you know you are going to be away offline for an extended amount of time and your draft pick is coming up, please send a PM to another owner to help you make your selection. I have nothing going on, and have constant access to nightly so I am always available to help you out. I can text you, call you, email you, facebook you, tweet you- whatever it takes. The easiest thing though is to send a list shortly before your pick comes up if you know you won't be available.

You are NOW on The Clock!
You have 24 hours to make your pick once the team before you posts their selection. Once your 24 hour time period is up, the team with the next draft pick may make their selection immediately. The team that has been "skipped" may make their missed selection at any time.

Don't pick the picked!
The first post of this thread will be updated shortly after each draft selection, so please continue to check that post before you make your draft pick. However, it remains your responsibility to ensure you have not selected a player already assigned to another team. If this occurs, the team with the next draft pick may make their selection immediately. The team that has been "skipped" may make their missed selection at any time. We will also do our best to update the ESPN website by adding newly drafted players into their new NFF teams. This can be quite time consuming, so once again we emphasize that it is still your responsibility to ensure you have not selected a player already drafted.

Help a brother out!
While UK, Irish, and myself will do our best to add your players to the ESPN site, the free agent pool has been unlocked so it would be beyond awesome if you can do it yourself as well. We understand that you might not always have time or access to do that, however you still need to double check your team from time to time to make sure we haven't forgotten anyone. This is very much a team effort to make sure the draft runs as smoothly as possible.

Don't Disappear!
My single biggest rule is don't disappear. I understand you'll occasionally be absent for a day or so, or sometimes stuff happens. A few years ago Lohr checked into a hotel room he thought would have net access that didn't, I ended up at Cedar Point two years in a row with spotty net access on my phone. Stuff happens. Just let someone know if you might be in that position. Nothing slows the draft down and frustrates everybody like an owner disappearing and no one has heard from them
* * *

Alrighty, enough of the formalities. Let the draft begin (soon)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Team Carr will be the first on the clock, followed by Darth Irish. Sources tell me that Team Carr is close to finalizing a deal with their 1st overall pick and it could be announced any time now...

Hello all and welcome to this year's coverage of the 2012 NFF Draft here on ESPN8 – The Ocho. You all know me, Chris Berman, and by best bud here Mel Kiper and we'll be chiming in throughout the draft to give you our thoughts on how the teams are shaping up. We'll also be joined by our hottie with a body Melissa Stark and our resident insiders John Clayton and Chris Mortensen. And you just never know who else will be popping in over the next month. I'm sure we'll have a good time.

First up we're going to take a little look back at last season when we crowned our first international champion. UKLK's Vikings took a break from losing to Rock's Heels and the Nightmares and decided to actually win something. The Aussie Kangaroos shook off some of their past playoff demons by making it all the way to the final before getting crushed by the Vikings, but we'll get back to all that in a moment. .

The regular season was the highest scoring season in NFF history! Teams scored an average of 87.58ppg which blew away the previous record of 84.39ppg set back in 2009. Prior to 2011, the 2006 Aussie Kangaroos held the seemingly unassailable record for highest single season scoring average with 96.4ppg. Well that was unassailable no longer! A whopping three teams topped that mark last season with the Vikings leadin the way with an unfathomable 103.23ppg!

It wasn't all rainbows though as owner Otanku of the expansion Austin Tanks went absent for weeks at a time. In his absence, his team came close to setting the all-time futility record scoring just 57.1ppg, only topped by the 2007 Team Goad who scored a ghastly 53.6ppg.

Speaking of Team Goad, Dexy's Midnight Haters turned in their best season to date turning in a 6-7 campaign earning a playoff spot in a tiebreak over the Nightmares. The Haters were buoyed by keeper Mike Wallace and savvy draft picks Darren Sproles and Fred Jackson (who was the likely fantasy MVP before he went down with injury). The Haters had the highest scoring game in all of 2011, scoring 143 points in week 2. Shadowdog's magical ride to NFF respectability came to an abrupt end when they ran into the Kangaroos in the opening round of the NFF playoffs.

Another team that has long battled to find respectability in the NFF ranks has been the Texas SuperDragons. Halfway through 2011 it looked as though they had finally found a winning formula. Anchored by a resurgent Michael Vick, Cam Newton's favorite target Steve Smith and the surprise of the year Laurent Robinson the SuperDragons sat at 5-3 through 8 weeks. Unfortunately they finished just 0-4-1 down the stretch missing out on their first over-.500 season since 2006.

The Austin Steelers fared much better than their Tank counterparts even if the overall record didn't show it. The Steelers were always competitive and had several of the great surprise performers from 2011. Jimmy Graham exploded onto the scene with one of the best seasons ever by a TE. Despite a down season by QB Philip Rivers the Steelers were helped significantly by top-12 seasons from both Marshawn Lynch and Reggie Bush of all people! Unfortunately though 5-7-1 wasn't enough to get the Steelers into the playoffs.

One team that surprisingly missed the 2011 playoffs was the Nightmares. Things started poorly for the Nightmares and by the time they got better it was far too late. Consensus top-5 runningback Jamaal Charles tore his ACL and went out for the season in the second week. To make matters worse, league leading WR Kenny Britt also went out with an ACL in week 3. After a rough start and poor QB play the Nightmares made a trade for breakout star Cam Newton. Even though that didn't immediately translate into more wins, Newton gives the Nightmares hope for the future. To go with the pain of missing the playoffs the Nightmares also had something else to deal with, that was Adrian Peterson's knee being shredded late in 2011, something that will loom large over 2012.

The Irish Micks didn't have terrible injury luck last season but they did have to deal with the single biggest luck issue when it comes to fantasy football. It just didn't matter what the Micks scored, their opponents were going to score more it seemed like. The Micks were averaging 105ppg through the first three weeks and stood at 0-3. About the only bright spots for the Micks were the consistency of Tom Brady and Larry Fitzgerald maintaining his status as a top 5 WR despite being thrown to by whoever it was quarterbacking the Cardinals last season.

The NFF's other expansion team, Ash's Ruff Puppies, turned in a highly successful first campaign. Thanks largely to Wes Welker's incredible 2011 and finding the diamond in the rough of Demarco Murray who averaged 17 points for 6 games in the middle of the season including a 35 point outburst against the lowly Rams. Despite making the playoffs in their inaugural season, and scoring 104 points in that appearance, the Ruff Puppies were sent home early when the Vikings exploded for 143 in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Vikings then went on to play the back-to-back IFC Champion Kemah Jokers in the NFF Semi-final round. The Jokers relied on the strong arm of Aaron Rodgers for over thirty points per game and the speedy legs of LeSean McCoy. Despite not having much wide receiver help, the Jokers won 11 of their 13 games, tying the 2006 Aussie Kangaroos for the best record in league history.

The GFC champion, Rock's Heels, won their third division title en route to the second best record in the league. RBs Chris Johnson and Frank Gore turned in erratic seasons but the Heels were able to lean on their excellent WR corps of Roddy White, Greg Jennings, and Vincent Jackson to lead them to another division title. The Heel's were primed to fight for another Uber Bowl title but Eli Manning was only able to register 4 points against the pathetic Redskins as the Heels lost by 17 to the Kangaroos in the Semis.

The Kangaroos put together yet another nearly flawless roster, with every one of their starters ranking in the top 10 at their position, including Ray Rice and Calvin Johnson who topped their respective positions. In fact, the Roos starters ranked on average, fifth at their position. They may have only finished 8-5, but their roster was as good as there was all year in the NFF. With multiple first round picks this year, we can expect more of the same in 2012.

That leaves one team that hasn't been covered yet and that is Team Carr, the first team on the clock in the 2012 Draft. When we come back we'll take a look at their 2011 as well as what they should do here in the first round. We'll be back for continuing draft coverage here on ESPN8 – The Ocho!

Welcome back everybody, now we're gonna talk about the team doing their best Rock's Heels impersonation this offseason: Team Carr. They suffered through a hellish year in 2011, to say the least. It all started when original Team Carr draftee, Peyton Manning, received neck surgery just days before the 2011 season began. This led to Team Carr starting Rex Grossman and Jason Campbell for the first few weeks. That worked out about as well as you'd expect. The bright spot was RB Darren McFadden who was fantasy's leading rusher... before he went out with injury after week 6. Michael Turner and Steven Jackson led Team Carr through the rest of the season without a hitch and for the first time since maybe 2007 Team Carr had two reliable WRs in Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Marshall. Despite being the fifth highest scoring team, Carr missed the playoffs and only won 5 games.

Mel, this is a team that has typically been among the contenders in the NFF talk us through what they did this off-season and what you expect them to do here in Round 1.

Well Chris, Team Carr had a lot of tradeable assets this off-season and that's exactly what they did. Carr told me he's in a “Win now, ask questions later” kind of mode this season. This is kind of evidenced by his trading away future draft picks like we've never seen him do before. Team Carr basically has a couple of ways they can go in round one and it depends on what their focus is. Personally I expect Carr to take WRs early and often to ensure that position is covered this year. I would be absolutely shocked if --

Chris: Hold on there, Mel! It looks like the commish is stepping up to announce the first selection a little bit early!

Sometimes it flies, sometimes it drags. Usually at nights and especially on weekends we get going at a pretty good clip. Unfortunately, Irish had a change of heart and took Wallace when I wasn't planning on him doing that so now I'm trying to talk to a couple owners about trades. Unfortunately they both live in London. Sigh.

The delay is my fault, but I totally can't justify making the pick yet, unfortunately.

Owners have 24 hours to make their picks, it rarely takes the whole time though. Frequently it's within an hour or two.

The Australian Kangaroos would like to welcome back to their franchise, Tony Romo QB, Dallas Cowboys

In a quick fire statement from the Roos GM Brad Watts, "We are estatic that we are able to bring Tony back for another season of Kangaroos Football. After taking us all the way to the championship game, Romo has expressed major plans to ensure that we go that one step further this year. Along with Ray Rice, Ryan Matthews & the Johnson boys form the core of this franchise."

Wow, some interesting picks so far as the first round is in full swing right now after a slight delay last night. Rock's Heels are now on the clock and we anticipate them making that pick any time now but I hear we've got some breaking news, and for that we go to star correspondent Chris Mortensen. Mort!

Well Chris, I've just gotten word that the NFF licensing department was just served notarized legal documents approving a name change of Rock's Heels to simply "The Heels." There is a press conference outside of the team's Gainesville facilities scheduled for 9pm tonight, and we expect that's when the announcement will go official. Of course this change has no immediate ramifications but it is sure to cause a lot of rumors. Why? Well we all know that last fall Rock Ledoux announced the sale of his NBF franchise, The Ballers, wanting to take a step back from the fantasy sports world. Is this change the precursor to a similar move? We'll see, but several other owners close to Ledoux say there's no way he gives up control of The Heels, a franchise he literally built from the ground up. Back to you, Boom.

Chris Berman: Thanks Mort, that's something we'll definitely keep an eye on. We'll be back with analysis of the entire first round after it's conclusion, but right now it appears The Heels have sent a representative to make their selection.
