Lucas1138
I have flipped through that several times at B/N. It is pretty awesome. I will probably borrow it from a friend that got it for his birthday last month rather than buying it- but I did get some gift cards for Christmas, so we'll see! Darth Krawlie
Not that this really means anything, but it GRRM's latest blog post, he said he's scrapping attendance at two cons this year: the World Fantasy Convention in November, and the San Diego Comic Con this July. He says he has too much work to do, particularly on Winds of Winter. Then, the last thing he says: "(Should I complete and deliver WINDS OF WINTER before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind)." As each day passes I become more and more convinced this series will never get completed, but the fact that he'd throw in a line about potentially finishing the next book possibly even before July got my heart racing a bit. Still not expecting it this year, though.
ShadowDog
I wonder what the production time is on a novel this big once the author turns it in. The Potter books seemed to be about six months.
Darth Krawlie
When Martin announced the completion of A Dance with Dragons, it was only 3-4 months before it's release, so I'm fingers crossing for the same here, whenever it's finished.
Cerina
I should really finish A Dance with Dragons.
ShadowDog
Wait to see if he lives long enough to finish the series.
Lucas1138
I remain convinced that we'll have a TWOW release date before the end of the year. I think it will come out before Season 6 on HBO begins.
The Choc
I think he will finish the series barring an unforseen illness. When writing a story usually the ending is something clear in your mind the entire time. At some point the writing process will speed up I think. Sometimes when you see that finish line it gives you a bit of energy.

Darth Krawlie
I've tried hard to avoid reading any of the chapters that've been released so I can save it for the book. I read the Theon chapter posted a few years ago, but that's it.
Lucas1138
I've read the Mercy chapter, and by virtue of reading reddit regularly I have the general gist of a few of them. This is only the 2nd one I've actually read. I figure the book is going to be long enough and these chapters won't spoil anything massively so there's little harm. Plus like I said, I read the ASOIAF reddit several times a week and people are always referencing them so
Darth Krawlie
This is probably nothing, but whatever. A season 6 director commented that he'd seen an advanced copy of the Winds. While it's likely what he actually meant was an outline, he still said it. A commenter on Martin's blog asked him about it, and Martin's response is, as always "never believe rumors." Not quite a denial, either. I still really doubt it, but hey, it's a thing that happened.
Darth Krawlie
A texting conversation with Garrison last night about season 6 inspired this. Here is a non-comprehensive list of characters I think won't survive the book series. CerseiJaimeTommenMyrcellaQyburnStannisDavosMelisdanreA vast majority of the FreysRoose BoltonRamsay BoltonALL of the Greyjoys, except AshaALL of Dany's Meereen advisors and generals, except Grey WormBarristan the BoldJorahDoran MartellMost, if not all, of the people training Arya in the House of Black and WhiteJon Connington"Aegon" There are definitely more. A lot of names are escaping me at the moment, and there are a lot I need refreshers on to know exactly what's going on with them to be sure. ShadowDog
Right on. Who do you think ultimately ends up with the Iron Throne? I know one thing, if Cersei doesn't die Imma be pissed.
Darth Krawlie
For years I've been convinced that it WON'T be Dany without having a solid choice of who it WILL be. I still don't think she takes it, but I'm leaning more and more toward someone not actively fighting for it currently to end up with it. Jon Snow, maybe? ShadowDog
It'd be awesome if it was the Imp But I wonder if it'll be one of the youngest Stark kids.
The Choc
I think Tommen will simply stay on the Throne. In the end alot of the main characters will have to direct their efforts away from any claim to the Throne and towards simply preserving human life against the Others. My personal guess is that in the end many of our favorites will die in that fight, eventhough many in the South may not even know that war happened. I could see Tyrion reporting back to Kings Landing and the court in the Red Keep asking him how he fared against all those "gremlins and grumpkins" in the North. Lucas1138
Bran, Rickon, Sansa will survive. I think Jon and Tyrion will. Pretty much everyone else is dead.
ShadowDog
Dany too?!?
The Choc
I think Dany will live but will never sit the Throne, instead she will go live a simple, anonymous but happy life.
Lucas1138
I think she's either going to die in a battle with the Others, riding Drogon, or go full blown Mad Queen and find herself dead shortly thereafter.
The Choc
In the book its often brought up how she was happiest at the "house with the red door". Which is when she was young, safe, had no ambitions. I think she is going to end up like that.

Darth Krawlie
I haven't heard that one but I already don't like it. Why on earth would the dornish allowed her and viserys to leave when they have so many plans built around them?
The Choc
Just a heads up to all you guys who haven't read the "Dunk N Egg" stories. They are finally being released together in a single volume titled "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" in hardcover. I'd highly, highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys ASOIAF.
