Having said that Game are selling it for 4.99 when you trade in Batman and I don't want to get COD as I don't think my internet in London is good/fast enough (keeps logging me out of FIFA online anyway)

mine does that as well, it's ea's servers

i've got about 35mb download and 8mb upload and no other game kicks me offline

It takes me a while to download a few things like podcasts so I decided to get Skyrim. The map is pretty cool, I love stuff like that. Gonna play it when I get back to London.

Man I wished I had more time to play this game. Im 16 levels in, only 7 mainline quests completed, but I did a daedric quest, have cleared a couple dozens caves, did a few side quests.

I started off wanting to be a brute warrior, but have since changed to being a sneaking archer.

The game is good fun. Stat management is simplified, in fact it's just three stats you modify (Magic, Health, Stamina), but the rest of the game is as involved as ever. Masses of books. Crafting potions, armor, weapons and now we can even cook food and veggies we harvest into recipes that recover more health or stamina over that of the raw ingredients.

If you have a SDTV text will be a nightmare. But you don't have to buy an awe inspiring HDTV to enjoy your systems. For about the price of a console or less you should be able to find some really decent monitor sets that can be used as TVs too (via cable etc, no antenna). The set in my kids' playroom is a monitor based HDTV thingy from Samsung... works great for that purpose.

finished it!

well the main quest, the thieves guild (still requires some grinding to pop the achievement), the mage college, the companions, the civil war and the dark brotherhood

yes you still get to stay in the world after finishing it

I'd suggest ploughing into the main quest ASAP as one of the perks for finishing it is very useful

I killed the first dragon with no problem at all, I then went on a side quest and got absolutely pwnd by a Hagraven (a badass, ugly old witch thing). I still haven't beaten her.

I beat the Hagraven. I'm a stealth player, archery and restoration spells are my bag, but this enemy kept schooling me hard. So I equipped a giant hammer and then just rushed her. Whack whack, oh ****, heal, whack whack whack, oh ****, heal, whack, critical animation. Yay! Witch be dead.

Played this a bit today, and of course it's great. one of the more beautiful environments I've ever seen in a game. When the first night of my travels cropped up, I had to stop right where I was and look up at the Moons for awhile, they were breathtaking.

One of the nicest environments in the game that I have come across is the Eldergleam Sanctuary in The Blessings of Nature mission, which is given at the temple in Whiterun.

This is the best RPG I've played in a long time. I haven't had this much fun with an RPG since Mass Effect.

You have to make the armor.
I don't believe you can just find it.

I restarted. Decided I wanted to be an Argonian. Hadn't played one yet in all my Elder Scrolls games. In Morrowind I was a Dunmer and Khajiit. In Oblivion I played an Orc, Bosmer and Imperial. Anyway, I'm liking the Argonian. It's sorta neat that he's the dragonborn and he's essentially a humanoid dragon. I named him Drake too.

I've noticed some Dragon Age riffing and at least one possible homage in the game. Anyone else?

A couple things:

The Dragon designs are similar. Same two horn crest on the head etc.
Some of the the Thalmor grunts look very similar to DA2 Darkspawn.
In Whiterun there is a mage/priest named Andurs.

Afterthought: If you play with subtitles on for everything then you'll notice that the Dragons talk to you. I could hear this voice in my initial play, but wasn't sure it was the dragons. So I put the subtitles on and replayed the open and yep... it's the dragons and yep, they are talking to you. Alduin, the main dragon and the one in the beginning, is out right hunting you in particular. If you hang around in the open enough (being careful not to die) Alduin says a bunch of things. All in the Nord or dragon-tongue language, but some of it is able to be understood. Alduin talks a lot about Sovngarde and sending you to it. LOL

Hey Torch, have you come across many glitches?

Yep. The usual random freezing. Floating items. Quests not advancing/resolving if highly specific things aren't triggered just right. The same stuff that always seems to plague Bethsoft games in particular.

On the last:

In Solitude there is a quest to convince a mother to find solace again in the church. There is an item on the convict that is executed in Solitude that she requires. Getting that item prior to her asking for it will not allow that quest to resolve.

In the first dungeon, Bleak Temple whatever, if you kill the Bandit that triggers the first puzzle prior to him triggering that puzzle the puzzle will not work and you cannot advance.

On the floating items:

The executed convict in Solitude can die in a way that glitches his head into a floating position.

The Giant you can encounter on the way to Whiterun can die in a way that glitches his weapon to eventually float up into the sky like a helium balloon. It doesn't happen right away, but over time it can glitch and float away like a UFO.

Would you say these glitches are game breaking? I may be picking this up tomorrow, but have been hearing mixed things. Some say the glitches are ridiculous & some say they haven't gotten any at all.

I've seen a few glitches and none of them are game breaking so far and all of them are hilarious.

I wouldn't say they are game breaking either. Although if you haven't saved in a while a glitch that doesn't allow you to complete a quest would be infuriating. Same thing with a random freeze. If you haven't saved in a while a random freeze is killer... just makes you want to shut the game off and go scream or something. LOL

Anyway all the glitches are par for the course with Bethsoft. If you've played Fallout 3 or Oblivion or Morrowind... it's all the same stuff that happens in all their titles. I dunno why, the games are on different engines, but something Bethsoft's devs do creates these same glitches in each title.

Oh yeah, just remembered; another glitch is with pathing... you know for people that are following you or you're escorting etc. They get temporally stuck sometimes or "forget" their objectives in the mission (if they have a set thing to do). But it's solvable by running up to them and clicking them. They then follow and do what they are supposed to. But again this is the same thing that has happened in all the Bethsoft games I've ever played.

One thing I have seen people complain about, NPCs like Inn Owners wandering off, isn't really a glitch... the NPCs have AI for their "lives" and so they go about things like a trip to the next town for supplies and stuff. It is annoying however if you arrive in a town and the Inn Keeper is gone on a trip somewhere. I've had this happen on my return visit to Riverwood (the first town you get to after escaping at the beginning).

I've played Oblivion for hours & hours & have never had a problem. I've also played Fallout New Vegas & never had a glitch on that either. They may have both been patched by the time I played them though. I think I'll take my chances & pick up Skyrim anyway. If it does glitch, I'm sure a patch will come out soon & fix it for the most part.

About a year ago, I went to cracked.com, & got a virus that screwed my entire computer (I think it was in the comments section). i had to reformat & start from scratch. I then found out the same thing happened to 2 of my friends the same day. I stayed away since then, but actually went there yesterday for the first time since. The Skyrim article was the first I read.

It was a funny read though. Glad it didn't destroy your compy this time.

I've restarted again. It is weird to be a lizardman with the potential to be a werewolf. I'm going to go Breton instead.

Can't believe you keep restarting! Surely its the same quests over and over?

I'll replay with a different class next time round, maybe a complete magician. Kind of going one handed/heavy armour right now
