Post-Apocalyptic Future
Same response I always have: So what? How many 'remakes' or 're-imaginings' do we have of gods throughout history, of Arthur, of the Holy Grail, of Dr. Faust, of various Shakespeare plays, etc? It's human nature: Good stories get retold, and movies aren't going to be any different. You still have your original one available. Just get used to it now and let all your melodrama out at once. I heard some high school was planning on putting on Grease next year- don't see if you don't want to.
Tangent
Why would Ridley Scott sign on to produce? Maybe to get some say on the product? An "they're gonna do it anyway, so I might as well get mine" attitude?
Wally Q
FOX will do as it pleases. Kingdom of Heaven proved that.
Tank
I heard it was supposed to be a prequel-- which is a way of rebooting if you aren't sure you want to reboot. Casino royale, the new Star Trek, Batman Begins, each of them begun production as a "prequel" but as their buzz and power grew it became clear they were full on reboots. Tangent
FOX will do as it pleases. Kingdom of Heaven proved that. I get that, it's just curious to me why he would be involved. Are you saying that KoH was destroyed by the studio? (I don't know anything "behind the scenes" about it.)
Darth Spoon
From the article Update (12:07am, May 28): We just heard from a separate reliable source that Fox is possibly working on an origins story, as opposed to a straight-up remake. The Human Torch
They should cast Morgan Webb of G4TV in Sigourney's role... well if she can act. Morgan Webb looks like a young, perfected version of Sigourney Weaver. They should also get Sigourney back to reprise her role. They could write it to where she accidentally travels back in time while chasing after an alien queen. Her arrival in the past creates an alternate time line, but fans will notice that it's actually in alternate time line of a completely separate universe and so the original franchise's universe still exists somewhere... everyone is happy! At the end of the movie Morgan and Sigourney Prime meet up and compare tales. Then Sigourney Prime goes off to have a bunch of crazy milf sex. Darth Spoon
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=55913Earlier yesterday, rumors were coming out of horror site Bloody-Disgusting that 20th Century Fox was interested in relaunching the "Alien" franchise with some sort of reboot or remake, following the recent news that Robert Rodriguez would be doing the same thing for 20th Century Fox's other sci-fi creature franchise, Predator. While there was no confirmation from the Fox camp or the trades, Collider's roving reporter "Frosty" cornered director Tony Scott at the press conference for his own remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 to get confirmation and learned that Scott-Free Productions is indeed producing a remake with director Carl Rinsch helming. They hope that the movie, which is meant act as a prequel to Ridley Scott's original 1979 classic Alien, will be shooting by the end of the year. The original B-D story suggested that they would return to the original concept of just one alien creature, and that they'd be looking for a new "Ripley." The same Carl Rinsch who hasn't made a movie for 13 years? How the hell could the Scotts sign off on this!?!
The Human Torch
THIS IS RIPLEY 2.0 (or should be anyway if she can act like an action hero, I mean she doesn't have to be Oscar worthy.) Edit: Picture changed.
NumberSix
And she would be...? http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=55913Earlier yesterday, rumors were coming out of horror site Bloody-Disgusting that 20th Century Fox was interested in relaunching the "Alien" franchise with some sort of reboot or remake, following the recent news that Robert Rodriguez would be doing the same thing for 20th Century Fox's other sci-fi creature franchise, Predator. I'm sure that was Frosty the roving reporter's incisive follow-up question to Tony Scott, who doubtlessly choked, shouted "NO MORE QUESTIONS!" then ran and hid behind his entourage. Or maybe this made-up rumor was Frosty's roundabout way of trying to put in a good word for his good ol' unemployed uncle Carl. I'd expect no less from Frosty, that jolly happy soul. Wally Q
THIS IS RIPLEY 2.0 (or should be anyway if she can act like an action hero, I mean she doesn't have to be Oscar worthy.)She's ugly. Seriously.

The Human Torch
That's Morgan Webb, dudes. Morgan Webb is a Veejay on G4TVs X-Play, a video game version of MTV. I'm not saying Morgan's total hotsauce like no other female evar, in fact she doesn't have to be, no one should be casting a Greek Goddess for this film. I choose Morgan because she looks like Sigourney... they could be mother and daughter. Google image search her, you'll see the young resemblance even more. Here's a non-MAXIM picture. Wally Q
She's better in that shot but I think she's too attractive to play Ripley. I dunno, I'm not saying Sigourney is ugly. Far from it but she has almost alien like features herself that suited the role.
King_Elessar
It's just a matter of time before they do Terminator vs. Alien. Or Terminator vs. Predator. Nothing new under the sun. I've been away too long. I just realized I still have the same Jokerized avatar since TDK was released.
Justus
I heard it was supposed to be a prequel-- which is a way of rebooting if you aren't sure you want to reboot. Casino royale, the new Star Trek, Batman Begins, each of them begun production as a "prequel" but as their buzz and power grew it became clear they were full on reboots. I argued in favor of a origin prequel in another thread, so it retains the stories of the classics (1 & 2), while ignoring any direct references to the other films (meaning no sequels which would need to pick up where the failures left off). It is the only logical way to add another chapter to the Alien saga without committing guaranteed creative suicide by remaking the '79 film.
