Little things that annoy you

Recommended Posts

Guys above the age of 8 whose first names still end in a "y" Jeffrey? Oh really? Davy? Johnny? Just

You do realize that Jeffery is the proper name and Jeff is the nickname, right? There's also Jeremy. And Bradley.

Jeremy is acceptable, the other two aren't. You'd have to be a guy to understand.

Jessica Biel

Hey, when she'll show her nipples WITHOUT covering them with wax first, she comes off the list!

"Wally" opens up communication with guests at work and allows some familiarity. I've also gotten plenty of tips since I changed over to it. But it's really only a work/Nightly thing.

Just curious, is your office space/cubicle/etc. adorned with Dilbertian Wally highlights? Like such...

I asked my husband, Bradley, and he didn't understand why you're so worked up about the y at the end of his name.

The reason he might not understand is because he probably doesn't know this thread is called "little things that annoy you." This thread isn't called "things that get you so worked up", it's called "little things that annoy you." If your husband knew that important difference in level of emotion we're talking about here, he might get what I'm saying.

"Bradley" is an excellent example of what I'm talking about, by the way. My younger brother's name is Bradley and he was called that all through his first 12 years or so of life. But then he started getting a bunch of **** about it from his schoolmates so he shortened to Brad by the time he was 12 or 13. It just made him sound childish and he wanted to seperate himself from that anyway, so as soon as his schoolmates started giving him **** about it he just wented ahead and changed it. Most dudes in this situation do that. If your husband didn't, then maybe he had more mature school friends than my brother did. I can't believe he's never gotten any **** about it his entire life, though. Maybe guys in the Pacific Northwest are less assholian than guys here in the South. But to me, yeah, it makes a guy sound like a little kid. "Hey Mikey! He likes it!" LOL

He mostly goes by Brad, but that's because of everyone's natural tendency to shorten everyone's names. His family still calls him Bradley (after all, thats what they named him), and when he's in formal situations, he introduces himself as Bradley, but he lets people decide if they're going to call him Brad or Bradley. But people always shorten it to Brad because people just like to shorten names. I call him Brad because that's how I was introduced to him by some mutual friends. I've offered to call him Bradley since the rest of his family does, but he honestly doesn't care enough either way. If anything he gets mad that the bad guy/jerk in any movie is always named Brad, and is usually blonde as well. I don't think he's ever gotten a hard time about his name, though. (And he grew up in SoCal, by the way. This PacNW thing is a relatively new thing.)

My mom gets royally pissed when anyone calls me Nicki, though. She has always insisted that I be a Nicole and not a Nikki. Ironically, my mother-in-law decided she wanted to call me Nicki, and yet she calls her son by his formal name. Don't get it. But it makes my mom want to blow a gasket.

Yeah, if he mostly goes by "Brad" then that's why this hasn't been an issue. And I don't think it's much of an issue with women, but I have to admit that "Nicole" sounds more glamorous than "Nikki."

Think about it, if you're writing a script then ...

Steffi = Trailer trash but Stephanie = classy

Vicky = Biker chick but Victoria = High class lawyer

Stacy = $5 whore but Stacilicous = Downtown DC $2,000 an hour escort

Okay, I made that last name up but you get what I'm saying. People make assumptions based on names. And most dudes with Y on the end of their names sound childish. Women? I dunno. It could go either way. Not childish but maybe trashy.

No but that's definitely a proper reflection about my feelings with work the past few months. In three months I'll be away from this trap and back in school but this was definitely funny. Thanks for the post!

my stupid ADD. yesterday i withdrew the whole forty bucks in my checking account cuz the gas station doesn't take cards. i see the place across the road is a few cents cheaper and go there instead, forget about the cash withdrawal and use the friggin card anyway and overdraw my checking. thankfully i had cash in savings so i only racked up a three dollar fee, but that's three dollars i don't have now and gas is going up again, and i've got no steady income.

I hate it when I screw up like that. :(

On the male names I have to admit I don't respect a grown man who insists on being called Mikey or Bradley or Johnny. Others like Kenny or Terry or Sonny are fine. Weird. Never really thought about it out loud until now.

So anyways, here’s my list:

- Office politics and people who get promoted for just being the flavor of the month and not having worked for what they get.

- When people will talk about something, say a movie or music, and they’ll critique it and use facts that are completely wrong and they’ll fight you on it when you call them out and they’ll accuse you of being wrong.

- Laziness. This goes with the first thing I mentioned. Are you a doer or do you delegate? I prefer to lead by example and show people how to do things the right way but with my employers, the right way is doing things the lazy way and asking someone who’s dealt with 20,000 people at a concession to pick up a piece of paper when they just walked by it and had absolutely nothing to do than to stand around and look at you for five minutes.

- People who ask questions when the answers are pretty obvious and don’t need explanation.

- People who talk during movies.

- People who turn to watch others reactions during movies (my friend does this all the time and I’ve told him how much it annoys me.)

- Cell phones in movie theaters. They really should put some kind of system that blocks signals inside an auditorium or enforce a system where if your cell phone is found out during the presentation, you’re out of there with no refund.

You read my mind, especially on the last 3

That isn't ADD, rather it is called being absent minded, or in guy terms "A good ol case of the dumbass"

Good Lord, I didn't realized my husband's name bothered so many people.

For the record, I did date a Jeremy. Maybe I have a thing for annoying names. :hmm:

Dated a Jeremy, but married a Johnny!

I know I know, you're asking when I'm finally going to get over this joke. The answer is never, Nicole. Never.
