The Office

You've gotta love how Michael's first instinct, when he doesn't get what he wants, is to go to David Wallace. This is the reason why Charles Minor was put in there in the first place, so that the CFO of the company would not have to continually deal with a guy who wants his ear everytime something stupid happens. And Michael still seems to think that going to the guy who is no longer CFO is a good idea.

But it was a wake-up call for Michael to see how not having a job is not a good thing. Loved Kathy Bates' no-nonsense approach to Michael's actual nonsense.

It's a nice way to shake up an office that has become too accustomed to being able to do what they want for too long. Also, a nice big "I told you so" regarding what happens when one company buys another. Even the most profitable branch isn't immune to tinkering.

Great show last night.

The only thing I would quibble with is that Dwight and Ryan's diabolical plan came to nothing as Jim went back to the sales team. Hopefully, they didn't get the IT guy to put something on Jim's...now Michael's...computer (as a digression, Ryan's attempt to squash the can...lame. Dwight's crushing of the apple...awesome).

Some fans think that Kathy Bates is just too over-the-top and she's a distraction, but I like it when things are shaken up around the office. I loved her intro and her exasperation over Michael and Jim wanting to trade places. I called Michael not being a salesman by the end of the episode pretty quickly. It was pretty funny that even Dwight thought Michael was outdated on the sales floor.

"I'm Jolene Bennett. Jo for short. I'm a breast cancer survivor and a close personal friend of Nancy Pelosi. Truman Capote and I slept with three of the same guys. When I was a little girl I was terrified to fly and now I have my own pilots' license. I am CEO of Sabre International and I sell the best damn printer machines Korea can make. Pleased to meet you."

This and last night's 30 Rock really got me.

The Office has been absolute garbage since season 4.

Ya kidding? Season 5 was on par with 3.

Last night's episode was getting back to good stuff. The Jim/Dwight interaction at the end sealed it for me. "Michael!" Some of the people's reactions are predictable, but that doesn't make it any less funny for me.

  • 3 weeks later...

The first part of last night's episode was great, but I really felt the last half dragged. Pam's problems with breast-feeding wasn't that interesting, but it's nice to know that not all TV moms are experts.

Best parts,

*Oscar: "The hospital already has dictionaries. Bring a thesaurus"

*Dwight: Just Dwight. Escorting the car, Destroying the Kitchen, Wanting to Name a Son Worf...and the police chase..."Don't make this difficult, Dwight"

*Michael's standard attempts to insinuate himself into private family moments from holding Pam's hand along with Jim and repeating everything he was telling her to walking into the delivery room. But it's nice to know his priorities are straight...he makes sure Phyllis saves the ice cream cake.

*Jim: "Five to Seven minutes" montage

*Ryan: his crazy clothes and him holding up his hand to say he was single while Kelly holds his arm and says she's seeing someone.

* Andy: While I do appreciate some romantic tension, I would've screamed if Andy had continued to set impossible parameters for asking Erin out. It makes me wonder if Michael set up Erin and Kevin to force Andy's hand. Otherwise, we'd still be waiting for those stars to align.

I never got the Extreme Makeover: Halpert Kitchen Edition subplot. I mean, I get the comedy behind why Dwight would do that, but it didn't add up to much for me. The Halperts arrive home, and...Dwight's still working. And...that's it. Needed something more. Comedy closure, at least, if not a straight-up punchline.

Jim's "frazzled" state was brilliant and accurate, though. Reminded me of awkward, painful, good indelible times.

I'm glad he and Jo have come to an understanding that there are boundaries in their relationship. I loved how she called him on how little work he was doing and all of the green around the office was hilarious.

But that whole Erin and her brother thing was really kind of creepy.

Finally caught back up with the Office. My travel schedule combined with off weeks made it farrrrr too long since my last viewing.

I had forgotten how much I love this show- It's clearly not the show it once was, but I still laughed plenty. Jim during the Delivery was awesome.

Last night's episode was weird.

On the one hand, the sales people seemed too busy to be freaky out over more leads, so I suspect they were just being difficult because they wanted to boost their commissions. So, I almost understood Michael trying to teach them a lesson even though it was typical Michael doing what he wanted instead of what was best for the company. It's nice to see that we are not going to lose the running gag of Michael on the speaker phone with an exasperated superior.

On the other hand, Phyllis telling Angela she didn't have time to walk over to Angela's desk was hilarious. And Erin and Andy kissing in the dump....awwww.
