Btw, just so that everybody knows, I'm waiting until closer to the deadline to read the entries so that they are all fresh in my mind for the vote.

By the way, the directions at top mentioned this but I just wanted to make sure everyone knows: You need only use FOUR of the listed words, NOT all of them. Danger is just a teacher's pet so he used them but you don't have to.

Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

teacher's pet? mark my words dexter, you shall pay for this.

The two watched each other
In their poetry contest entries
And so, then a duel challenge
Much like the NBA playoffs

I took a more serious approach to my poem but it seems everyone seems to enjoy the lightheartedness more. Guess I won't win.

A poem I used to love:

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

I couldn't decide. My favorite poems have changed over the years, but this is one of the poems that really hooked me when I was about 12.

The Charge of the Light Brigade

Search on this Page:
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
"Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!" he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

"Forward, the Light Brigade!"
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Some one had blundered:
Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre-stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not,
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

edit: It's by Tennyson. ;)

Ooooo! I love that one! That's another long time favorite of mine along with the Ancient Mariner one and like that one has another world famous line:

Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:

Awesome.

 That's another classic. I'm really drawn to ballads and the like. I think it's because I'm a hopeless, incurable romantic.

Mine is kinda sorta a work in progress. Is that okay, Dex? I mean, I have a few more days, right?

I'm sorry. I'm just not as pleased with it as I'd like to be.

Crap, in that case I better save the version posted now to contrast with the version you end up with. Whenever I see an edit tag I always wonder what I missed out on.

Thanks. Using at least four predetermined words was interesting but I have an ulterior motive behind my entry.
as for favorite poem I have a tie
In the desert and Not Waving But Drowning
