Note that this is not to say that a so-called strikeout pitcher will fizzle out if his fastball isn't what it used to be - if he's good enough, he'll learn to pitch the Greg Maddux way. For example, I recall a Randy Johnson game where he pitched six shutout innings against a good hitting club and didn't strikeout any one. And yes, I meant until 2010 for the salary one.
