So we just finished BSG tonight.

I have to say that I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had been watching it on regular TV, and had to wait in between seasons. I also knew how the show was going to end, so I didn't feel that the ending was as rushed as other people did, because I was looking for clues and all that.

It's funny, because a lot of my friends love Starbuck and think she is so awesome, and I can't stand her.

I will also agree with SD that people on this show drink too damn much! Sheeeeeesh.

But yeah. It was a really good show (but would have benefited from more Head Baltar!).

BSG is the greatest work of fiction ever.

I understand people getting upset about the whole God thing--I am an agnostic--but it is a story after all.

Wait a minute, what? The dude that thinks every single movie and TV show not starting with the words "The Big Lebowski" sucks tons of ass ... thinks that THIS ending was sheer genius? My man, I've seen you bash hand crafted genius, denounce pants crappingly awesome movies, and slam dunk visual crack ... but this show is awesome?

I need a new paradigm, mine has just been blown. :(

pants crappingly awesome movies,

Dude, you crap your pants when you see awesome movies? Um, from now on when we see movies together I'll be several rows in front of you in the unlikely event it happens to be awesome.

I never said the ending was sheer genius. There were a few things about the ending I didn't like. I disliked Starbuck's fate and even though I didn't necessarily have a problem with the whole god thing, it is somewhat lazy writing. With that said...

I am a character guy. I could care less about the plot of the characters are paper thin (I LOATHED Avatar--that movie could not end fast enough for me). TBL I love because I see myself as a balance between The Dude and Walter. I see myself in those characters.

In BSG I not only see reflections of myself in many characters but I also see characters of whom I admire. All of those characters that I admire all have their flaws and weaknesses, but in the end put duty and doing the right thing above all else. I don't think I have ever seen a work of fiction that has put forth such characters of depth, complexity, and humanness before.

That's been my answer as well. I didn't HATE the ending. I just wished Starbuck had better closure. Aside from that, the final character moments were all true. That's what made the show so great.

For a TV show, it really is head and shoulders above most everything else in those regards.

That said, the characters started chasing their tails as the writers/show got stale (how many breakdowns can you have before you just say "**** it!" and deep-throat your sidearm?), and I really could have done without the whole Final Five thing -- or hell, the entire final season and a half. Season 3.5 to the end of the show left a bad enough taste in my mouth to guarantee I won't ever be buying the boxed-set , which is saying a lot, as I do think the opener through the first few episodes of season three were genius (this isn't to say the later episodes were horrible -- they were pretty good. It's just that they tire out or negate too many of the things I loved in the first two seasons. It's the taste and feel of chewing on tin-foil).

I see what you two are saying and I can respect that. At least with Caprica Ron Moore has admitted upfront that he's going to have fully realized and fleshed out 3 dimensional characters having pointless and largely unexplained conflict for years on end so that I know ahead of time what I'm getting into. I mean, as long as the characters are realistic and 3 dimensional, who cares if the plot makes sense or if there's even a plot at all? Just cut together random magical things happening and make people getting drunk on their asses the glue that holds everything together.

Can anyone explain the point of Tigh getting together with Caprica Six? The pregnancy failed and they ended up with other people (Ellen and Baltar). That whole relationship seemed to be pointless, IMO, and the scenes with them seemed very out of character.

My only other major beef was that things were spelled out too much at the end. There was no need for epilogue with Head Baltar and Head Six (although Head Baltar is by far my favorite character on the show). I also thought it was silly that everyone would just give up all their technology without a second thought. Although I guess after living on a spaceship with minimal provisions (but all the booze that can flow!) would make you want to just start over.

Unlike a lot of people, I liked Baltar's redemption. I've had a love/hate relationship with his character throughout this show and I like the way things ended up. (And I hated Caprica Six to begin with so that's saying a lot!) I actually almost teared up when Baltar said he used to be a farmer and started crying.

I really, really enjoyed this show, which is funny because I couldn't stand a lot of the characters. Unlike Ender, I was more interested in the plot. However, the characters were engaging, so even though I disliked them, I still wanted to see what happened to them.

Although I will never, NEVER, understand why people love Starbuck so much. I have never wanted to slap a character so much, ESPECIALLY when she was drunk...which was almost all the time.

Yea, faced with the choice of spending an evening talking to Starbuck or driving a dull rusty roofing trowel into my kneecap I'd have to think about it. So I know what you mean about her.

Maybe the writers were going to go some direction with that then changed courses or chickened out?

That seemed too convenient for me, too. I don't care how post-apocalyptic things get, if I have a working laptop, coffee maker, and electricity, I'll be happy. Camping is fun for a few days; camping as a lifestyle would be hell.

Baltar (head and real) is one of the greatest characters on TV of all time. Period.

I dunno. There will always be an audience for the tormented, talented genius who always manages to **** him or herself over and hover near rock bottom. Good character, and outside of House, one that is rarely covered with the care and depth that Starbuck was. She annoyed me at times, too, but I'm glad the writers had the bravery to let her fall to the depths that she did.

I never said plot wasn't important. Without a solid plot characters cannot develop properly. This is my main criticism of the prequels. I believed the characters were genuine, but the motivation for the changes in the characters was very, very weak. I really, really wanted to believe Anakin's fall--but the plot was so haphazard I didn't buy it. I would give the BSG plot 8/10 stars but the characters get 10/10. The only thing a really disliked in the series was the entire Starbuck/ Apollo crap. I hated both characters.

To defend the drinking, well, I think drinking is the only real way to pass the time. I doubt there is any sort of new entertainment readily available. I am sure the day to day life aboard Gallatica is hell. You work everyday and it is very monotonous. I know I would be drinking most days.

I understand drinking to pass the time, but with that much alcohol being consumed, you would think that there would eventually be some kind of shortage.

I loved Starbuck because she was so terrible. I've never seen a character on Tv that was allowed to really play out the dark depths of self destruction you'd go to as a trauma victim/alcoholic. Not in the long form anyway. It's easy to hate her, but I'm pretty sure we're supposed to. We're supposed to be like Lee-- no matter how cruel she is to us, we can't help but love her.

Him chatting with the Centurion was one of the best moments of Season 4.

Yeah, this colony couldn't agree on ANYTHING. These selfish bastards fought about ever small and large decision for four seasons and now ... all of the sudden ... they all agree on this lame **** that's actually worth fighting against? BOOLSHEET.

For a long time I've had a very unfair image of you drinking all the time. In fact, if someone was to do a word association thing with me and say "Ender" I would immediately say "drinking." I don't remember now how I got this association with you and I'm sure it's way off ... but then you say things like this and only make it harder to break this association. LMFAO Love ya, mean it! :flirt:

I think it is because I was talking about my Margaritaville Blender. I make 2-3 protein shakes a day in it. It has been probably 6 months since it was used to make an actual alcoholic drink.
