  1. Hey you kids, get off my lawn!!

Happy birthday, Nightly, you drunk old shuttered bastdoor. And I mean that in the most loving way.

Glad you've kept this place going. It's always been a fun place to blow off some steam, and I've always been grateful to this place for the laughs and for giving me other SW fans in my life to commiserate/anticipate things with. Mostly on FB nowdays, and I lost my original login here, but it's awesome to still recognize so many of you.

You know, before the alzhiemers sets in and the vision fails.

  2. It's sad. Good man. Nasty disease.

But I can't see his name without hearing a fake Sean Connery saying "Trebeck, your mother's a whore!" Good grief were those skits funny. "Write your name. The final question is just, write your name. "

  3. Mod me! Mod me!

Wait, what's that quote about how I'd never want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member?

Oh c'mon, just for a day so I can say I'm a "former moderator"? I promise not to burn anything.

  4. Man, that was fun.

I worked 4 days of Star Wars Celebration Chicago as "Crew" and while semi-grueling (on your feet 8 hours a day and then walking the show floor before and after), it was a BLAST.

Free pass to the con? Check. Use the VIP entrance and get in early? Check. Back-door, pre-opening access to the store (when staff were being nice) Check. Money spent? oh yeah. Costumes drooled over, content devoured, people oogled, and legs walked off.

But the real fun was getting to know more geeks like you guys. Srsly, I thought of this place a lot and especially the fun we had at Celebration II in Indy. Every person on my work team at "First floor stages and rooms" was a Star Wars fanboy/girl, there to soak it all up and enjoy reveling in the experience. All ages (21+ -- and the 21yo newbie was hilarious!) and walks of life, but between rushes (we'd load up people, let them into the theater, then get some down time before the next group started arriving) we'd be talking SW, streaming what we were missing, discussing sessions or purchases, trading pins, or just hanging out. No, I didn't see as much of the con as I would have if I wasn't working, but I think the overall experience of being "crew" made up for that. You might need to be an extrovert to call that "fun" but as someone who doesn't get to show my geek side much IRL (which is how/why I found nightly in the first place), just being with "my people" was a great part of it. And oh, the costumes! the creativity! the stars (cough*BillyDeeWilliams*cough) the sneak peeks! the cool STUFF. But mostly, the people. I wish you all had been there. After all, I still remember 20 years ago discovering this place, and realizing I was NOT the only female fangirl on the planet. (And probably didn't rank in the top percent, either). It was  at first sight.

Now that my feet have finally recovered, of course I'm now wondering if I want to be crew again in Anaheim next year. Decisions, decisions.

JC and Six, it was so good to see you guys. Glad I could help with the store stuff, that was fun passing on my super secret access. But I had to get myself a Lando Hawaiian shirt, too -- and we are now in danger of dressing identically. Because good taste, duh.

Best take-away from the con? Other than star wars people are overall a pretty awesome group -- my fave is that The Mandalorian series on Disney looks OMG Awesome. Clint Eastwood style Bounty Hunter Gulid problems in far-away outer space, it doesn't get better. Unscrupulous characters. IG-88 in action! Fried Salicious Crumb onna stick!! Mandalorians! (or as Con signage said: "Mandorians") What's not to like? Not that Ep. IX doesn't look good...but I'm trying to manage my expectations there whereas I'm in a fullout geekgasm over The Mandalorian.

Hey, remember when we all met her 20 some years ago? Who knew we'd still have something Star Wars to look forward to. You know, post-JarJar. *cringe*

And taking it all the way back, I'm still thinking of the lunch box I didn't buy that was covered in Star Wars Holiday Special animation art. Old school, baby. Just like these boards. Hope to see some of you in Anaheim one way or another, so start planning now.:)

  5. My phone memory is maxed out, so no more apps for me until I figure out how to clean it out or get more storage.

We have one drive at work and I lost so many work files to it that I don't trust cloud storage any more... But I suppose I could move my 2000 pictures to my computer, at least. Then maybe.

Meanwhile, I love that a shelter in IN started saying "Rent a dog to walk while you play Pokeman Go" and so many people walked dogs, they made enough money to waive adoption fees. Then so many people fell in love with the doggies that they just took them home forever and the place emptied out. How cool is THAT?

  6. 16 years of posts and THIS is what gets upped on my return after ages away??

    lol.

Well then, if we're going to talk about it, let's just clarify the rules of 'Merica. The ones that don't have fine print crap about "constitutional rights" and "civic responsibilities".

THe REAL Rules of Being an American:

    1. We pledge allegiance to the diet of the republic, under Go...McDonalds, and to the foundational substances to which we are addicted: Salt, Sugar, Fat and Caffeine. We are one nation, on a binge, liberally pursuing our happiness - so don't be dissing our comfort food. Amen. Oh, also, anyone caught dissing bacon or donuts will be shot. That is all.

    2. Our motto is big is beautiful, therefore enormous is awesome. Size makes the economy go 'round (just like the waistline!). So we reserve the right to supersize anything we want: drinks, cheeseburgers, movie popcorn, shopping malls, sports utility vehicles, ridiculous puffy down clothing, swimsuit models, Great Lakes, and random body parts (currently lips). Also, skyscrapers, highway systems, McMansions, and military interventions, plus gun ownership and murder rates, and the volume of our voices. And don't forget roadside attractions, such as balls of string, corn palaces, jackalopes, lobsters, fake potatoes, cowboy boots and "duck rides". (Don't ask. See Wikipedia for "largest roadside attractions" as needed.)

    3. Small is for purse-sized puppies, infant clothing, and (bizarrely) miniature farm animals. But that's where we draw the line.

    4. There is no rule number 4.

    5. When in doubt, sue.

    I think that covers it.

  7. YES!

    Dear Boba,

All my girlfriends have read that "Outlander" book and are all hot and bothered for a Scotsman in a kilt. But every time they talk of hot sex with a Scot I picture your leering face and the drunken rude, obscene comments I've heard from you in the past and I start laughing and promptly ruin their "mood". Channeling Saturday Night Live's Sean Connery skits don't help. They are starting to get annoyed with me. What should I do?

Also, do you have any friends planning a visit to Chicago any time soon? My friends would like to know.

Also also, I tried to convince them we need a wee binge down to the St. Patrick's Day drinking-fest/Parade in Chicago to address this issue. That's one day that hooking up with drunk men in kilts is not a challenge here (although there may be a line), but they insist there's some difference between Irishmen and Scots in the skirt-wearing department. Could they be right?

I look forward to your enlightenment.

  8. It's just too much for me with all the travel/work on my plate that month. So I'm passing. Any other week and I'd have been there but back to back trips the week after are going to kick my ass as it is.

Still sad about it. So please torture me with everything wonderful there is to do and see. I expect to see some great pics!

  9. I'm proud of myself. In expanding my cooking skills, last night I made a vegetarian mushroom and spinach pot pie with a sage cream sauce and homemade pastry crust; and today did a sort of orange-soy-ginger roasted salmon on thyme, fennel and onion saute, with steamed potatoes.

I have pork loin lined up for tomorrow but haven't decided what to do with it. Peach jam and my rosemary plant will make a nice glaze, though.

It feels good to eat well sometimes, doesn't it? Also to learn new skills.
