  1. I had jury duty myself in May. I've served four times, had only one case, but didn't get chosen because I knew the defendant. I have such great luck.

You can apply for a change of venue and get a closer courthouse, which you can usually take advantage of.

It's an awkward and uncomfortable experience, but it's not too painful. Just bring plenty of reading material and a tablet to entertain yourself.

They put you in a room with like 20 strangers. Don't expect tons of conversation, but if you sit near the right people it's a whole lot better. They usually give you a short video to watch. It's more of a pep talk about how great jury duty can be. After that, you have to entertain yourself. You basically sit in that room while cases are being resolved, with periodic updates on when you might get called in. Usually all of the day's cases get resolved without the need for a jury and you leave when they are done...with a full days pay. If you do have to serve, they walk you through the rest of the process.

    darth lord hunter:

For the record I loved Hamill's ideas...if the objective was to write a direct sequel to ROTJ with all the same character leads.

When one of the big three wanted out, one was a known trouble spot, one was into it, and all are in their late 60s, that's not a plan for a franchise you want to grow.

The hand off to the next generation makes the most sense. What a super fan wants isn't always what they need.

I think you may have misunderstood my post, because you posted pretty much what I was alluding to in an argumentative nature. I loved Hamills ideas, but not for the kind of movie that was being made. A soft reboot with new characters was the objective. Hamill's ideas were much better suited for a direct sequel to ROTJ with the big three as the leads. His ideas would have been more useful 20 years ago. Making a direct sequel to ROTJ in 2015 would have been a terrible idea.

  3. As far as "is it the moon or the planet", I don't know if there is a consistent, official answer, but the way my brain works is:

Endor has to be the planet. If it were the name of the moon, they wouldn't keep calling it the "forest moon of endor". Just call it Endor. Because that's what it is. The shield generator is on Endor; case closed. No more extra words. But they keep calling it moon of Endor, so it must be the planet out of necessity.

  4. I thought both jump street movies were pretty decent, and I loved the Lego movie. Definitely talented guys, but the kind of gags in those movies are a bad fit for a Star Wars movie. Not a particularly great fit in my opinion.

That being said, anyone not on the inside are really just offering their best guess as to what exactly happened.

  5. Is there something to be said regarding the older generation of filmmakers such as Howard and Spielberg vs the younger guys when it comes to the responsibility of making a Star Wars movie? The issues with Michael Arndt, Josh Trank and now Miller and Lord would suggest Lucasfilm seems to be having problems with the newer generation.

I think it's a matter of creative freedom versus adhering to strict studio system. The younger crowd want to imprint more of their own ideas, where as seasoned vets like Howard and Spielberg are more used to the studio system.

I also think it's worthy to repeat that this is basically coming in as fixing a bunch of things Lucasfilm sees as problems, as opposed to starting from the beginning. Someone with a lot of experience should be considered if that's the case.

  6. Ron Howard hasn't directed a movie that I've liked since like the 90's. Well, except for Rush, which I thought was pretty decent, but it wa a period piece, so it was perfect for the old man. Joss whedon felt like a much better fit for me. Firefly was exactly the kind of thing I pictured Han Solo doing before ANH.

But, considering the circumstances going with a director with tons of experience makes a lot or sense since he's coming in on the middle of the project.

  7. I hope this is not going to become some kind of experiment with a star wars slapstick comedy.

[edit]. Actually, I'm not sure I even care what it is, because I don't have any interest in seeing this in the first place. There's more drama behind the production of this movie then there's going to be in the movie itself. There going to have to bring in some veteran, studio-cooperative, "safe" director, who's going to have what little creative freedom he or she could bring be stifled even more so because the frigging movie has already been cast and shot, minus reshoots which are definately going to happen.

  8. This movie has very little chance of being anything better than meh to me. The percentage just dropped further.

That being said, the few people that are going to pay money to see this are going to watch it over five times and will make it a financial success.

I blame some people here. This is all your fault.

  9. I always called them imperial walkers because that's what the movie called them. I'm not sure where Scout Walker even came from, but that's what I called the little two-legged ones. And yes, they were in the original cut of ESB for a single shot. As a kid I loved how fast they moved in ESB...better watch out rebels!

  10. Well, back then Vader was just a suitably powerful villain. Lucas hadn't written Anakin to be space Jesus yet, so at that time you bought the fact the emperor was more powerful in the force. Now...well it literally feels like the stories were written backwards with continuity be damned. The way PT Anakin was written was way more powerful than OT Vader was.

Mark's other comment about an untrained Rey snatching the lightsaber from Kylo instead of Luke in TFA has the same issue. I am sooooooo glad Luke didn't show up just then. It's a great entrance for Luke...but it leaves Rey, THE main character, with nothing to do.

Besides the lightsaber snatching was such a nice, juicy Excalibur-type moment. Such a great opportunity would have been wasted giving it to Luke.

We all know damn well everyone in every theater across the world would've lost their marbles had this actually happened, bad writing for Rey or not.
No doubt, but then Disney would lose millions of dollars because then every theatrer would have to be shut down for a day to clean up all the ejaculations.
  12. Except that this then robs the new characters of an agency. I get his point, and if this was meant to be the story of what happens to Luke after ROTJ, this would make sense. But it isn't.

When I listened to those ideas by Hamill, I was like "wow, Mark's got some great ideas," but then I had to wrestle with the fact that it would steal spotlight from this trilogy's leads.
