In 1987 I played 1942.

I took karate for years when I was a kid and through my teens. Made it to first degree black belt. Loved it. I recommend it for anyone really, but especially young boys with lots of energy.

I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

 

Picard is really really old. Data looks and sounds terrible. My two favorite characters. This pains me.

Seven of Nine looks great, and she’s probably in this to counter-balance Picard and Data. Reduce the depression-factor.

The PT was about a certain evil manipulating a predictable and complacent governmental system into submission.

The OT was about people facing this evil head-on and defeating it.

 

We dont really know what the ST is ultimately going to be about until its complete like choc says, but after two movies it appears to be about the remnants of a certain evil destroying and conquering the galaxy...

I like it.

In my opinion however, I believe the force is only ever interesting when the villains use it, or when secondary characters use it as a teaching moment for the protagonists. Its got to be about growth. This describes the success the OT had with it pretty well, and the failure the PT had with it. It was fun watching Luke fail and grow, it was not fun watching Jedi act as Deus ex Machinas moving the story forward.

 

Rey is having a similar problem; she was the perfect Jedi from day one, so theres not a lot of personal growth. Finns character completes the same arc in two straight movies, so his character has a growth problem. Poe only had character growth in the second movie. These characters had potential but just arent all that interesting.

RLM has contended that Star Warss dirty little secret is that nothing will ever work outside the original trilogy because that was the fairytale and its been completed..something along those lines.

 

Im believing that may be right more and more.

Instead of listing specific movies and shows I like, Im going to instead list specific qualities/themes/thingies I like about them (because I choose to).

 

I love movies where good people sacrifice their lives in battle to save others. I have a soft spot for that kind of heroism.

 

I love movies that have philosophical themes; preferably as a backdrop.

 

I love movies where the protagonists competency is earned and not so much a superpower granted. In this regard Star Wars OT qualifies, PT and ST do not.

 

I love some love and sexiness in the movie. Nudity is nice too.

 

I love mob movies period.

 

I love shock humor, but not jokes in comedies.

 

I love movies with animals but hate when they...you know..

 

I love survival movies, but not so much disaster movies.

Oh and Matrix Reloaded is actually good, albeit not great like its predecessor.

Look whos talking is an amazing movie and was Travoltas best work.

God forbid someone tells the truth.

God forbid he just say yeah, I was against a wildly unpopular piece of legislation that forcibly yanked kids out of their community, and shipped them off somewhere far away-away from their friends, where they didnt know anybody...but thanks for not calling me a racist you damn narc.

Sadly, that is the truth. 2020 is shaping up to be another sh*t sandwich vs the giant douche. If Biden gets the nom, I'll vote for him, but the rest of these jokers will cause me to vote 3rd party again.

 

Harris tore your boy Biden a new one last night. She basically called him not a racist buuuuuuuuuuut...you we against forces busing, and she knew he couldnt say out loud forced busing was bad policy to that crowd.

Well...the clear winner here was Trump. If the election were tomorrow, Trump wins re-election against all of them and its not even close.

I liked solo too. Cute little Star Wars movie that had nothing to do with the Jedi and the force, didnt try to be epic; it just tried to be above average.

 

Comparing the box office success/failure to my personal opinion, Id say Solo is the most underrated Star Wars movie where Rogue One might be the most overrated.

 

Also: i thought most of solo was good, except the last 2 minutes with Maul which was really dumb; where I thought most of Rogue One was a bit boring except the last 2 minutes with Vader which was really cool. In either case a Sith did it.

Its best not to think too hard about all this. The whole idea of balance in the force is ambiguous and has never been explored or fleshed out thus far. All weve got are a few lines that require a lot of conjecture. In fact some of these ideas are contradictory: in TLJ its all darkness rises and light to meet it but in AOTC darkness is a shroud and Jedis ability to use the force is diminished.

 

Im not keeping up with other Ep9 so I dont know what that movie has said about anything, but I doubt well get any explanation that makes tons of sense.

 

And I really don't understand the concept of grey Jedi. I always thought if you used the force with good intentions you were light and if you had evil intentions you could fall to the dark side. I dont consider Luke a grey Jedi, and he really rode the morality line to get what he wanted in ROTJ. Shooting lightning at people isnt more or less moral than stabbing someone with a lightsaber. Its all about the hearts intentions.

Arya deciding to become Christoper Columbus seemed to come from nowhere too.

 

So...the song of ice and fire isn’t “Jon Snow: the biography” after all, but rather a story of two destructive foces that almost destroyed Westeros. Hmmmmm

 

Now I wonder how much of Bran being chosen as the three-eyed raven was because of his tree-wizard potential and how much was because of his eligibility to becoming elected king in the future.

The dems “losing their sh*t” IS their strategy for winning 2020. None of them can run on policy because they are all way to the left of the mainstream. The economy isn’t exactly doing poorly so they can’t run on that...despite the fact Trump doesn’t understand enough about tariffs to NOT say he loves them. Their best bet IS an endless onslaught of vilification and character attacks.

At this point, the democrats shouldn’t want to impeach him. Their strategy should be to call for investigation after investigation endlessly, and vilify him over every piece of dirt they stumble across to give them ammunition against him in 2020. Seems to be their go-to strategy anyways.

Its probably going to end with Lukes grandson being taken to Jakku along with Rey to look after him and train him in 19 years. So yes it could.

Skynet, recognizing there are multiple times where it loses, tries a different tactic...
