  1. Heathen.

Tami, I think it's just a way of paying tribute. Like making a farewell toast: "Here's to you, _____. We're sure going to miss you...". Or talking out loud to dead loved ones. People do that sort of thing quite a bit, I'd say. I know that since my father passed away, there have been a few moments when I said something like, "Man, I wish you were here to see this, Dad" out loud. It's more for us than them, really. Or maybe both. Hell, if we think the dead can hear us, why not believe they can read Facebook?

  2. You looked photoshopped!

Anywho, I'm not going to bother defending a picture of a population sign, but if you really doubt its existence, feel free to ask Google. Or Wiki. Or a map of California. Or Krawlie, he's probably familiar with it. Or don't.

At this point, the name of the city this show takes place is the least of my concerns for it. I'm just trying really hard to trust the Powers That Be, since Arrow and Flash have both turned out great.

  3. I think they can do it. It may take more than one person - he did four characters, I think - but with the clout and resources available to this show, I think it can be done. They sound confident of it, at least.

"We do not plan to 'kill off' his characters," Jean added, "but replace them with the most talented members of the voice over community."
  4. Who knows what was said behind closed doors, of course, but publicly the picture being painted is that he chose to leave. This is part of what CNN had to say about it...

James L. Brooks, one of "The Simpsons" original producers appealed publicly on Twitter for Shearer to keep talking. "Hey, we tried. We're still trying. Harry, no kidding, let's talk," Brooks tweeted.

Jean's comments came a few hours after Shearer's private contract negotiations with the producers spilled into public view.

Shearer, who tweeted about the dispute, said that it centered around his ability to continue doing outside work. He says he's had that freedom for decades. (He's been a member of the voiceover cast ever since the show began in 1989.) Harry Shearer is the voice of Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders, among others. "In last four years, I've created and starred in a UK TV series and starred on London stage. Not stopping," he wrote in a message to CNNMoney.

Jean, however, said Shearer was "offered the same deal as the rest of the cast, but turned it down.". "We wish him well," Jean said, then quipped that "Maggie took it hard."

Shearer is not just walking away from Springfield, but also a large sum of money. The actor was offered a guaranteed $14 million for two years of work, according to someone with direct knowledge of the matter. The proposed deal also allowed for him to do other projects if he wished.

If it was his choice, they seem to be handling it alright. "Maggie took it hard". lol

So, Legends of Tomorrow cast shot. Atom still has the stupid suit (with even more stupid clear face shield, to make sure that the audience can see his face at all times, secret identity be damned!), Firestorm's alter-ego is on the team and he apparently still isn't, and I'm not too crazy about the show's title. However, the biggest - and best - thing for me is this...

The Canary flies once again! While this is great news for the spinoff, it does make me more than a little sad to have to finally accept that her sister is still going to be putting on the black tights here on Arrow - unless, of course, something awesome happened in last night's episode, which I haven't seen, yet, and Laurel met a tragic and lasting death! One can only hope...

  6. Cerina, on 28 Apr 2015 - 12:34 PM, said:There are very few anatomical differences in boys and girls at that age that would necessitate specially cut and sized clothing, so why can't girls who want dinosaur shirts just get them from the "boy" section? You have to go to the "boy" section of the toy store to get the original LEGO sets. So why is it not ok to girlify something like LEGO sets but it is to girlify dinosaur/space/science/math themed clothing?

I've gotten more than one "That's a boy shirt!" comments from my wife (accompanied by the obligatory withering look) after getting a new shirt for my youngest. Now seven, her favorite superhero has always been the Hulk and whenever she outgrows her current Hulk shirt, I try to find her a new one. This invariably means a trip to the boys' clothing section, because despite the ever-increasing number of girls that enjoy superheroes, unless you happen to be looking for a pink Supergirl shirt, you're not likely to find what you want in the girls' section.

  7. Supers should just stop trying to rescue planes in distress. What did she do to "help" that the pilots couldn't?

National City? I've never heard of that one in the DC universe. And frankly all the X City (Central, Starling, Gotham, Coast, etc) names in are starting to annoy me. It just shouts "fictional!"

Well, if she hadn't helped, the plane would have had a crash landing (versus the much more gentle & controlled landing it did) either into the water or possibly that bridge. So, yes, she did likely save many lives.

    -

I don't know of a National City in DC comics, either, though I'm guessing that it may not shout "fictional" quite as loudly for the people that actually live there...

Incidentally, there also is a Star City in Arkansas (founded in 1876) and a Central City in Colorado (founded in 1859). I, too, prefer Marvel's approach of using real cities, but since using fictional cities has always (mostly) been DC's method, there's no sense in breaking with tradition now. In the real world, there are dozens and dozens of cities named "_____ City". It just happens that in the DCU, some of those cities happen to build into major metropolises - oooooh, Metropolis!!!! That's not a ____ City!!! See, they have some one!

  8. Watched it for a second time today and my initial thought from yesterday hasn't changed: I just hope that the actual show doesn't contain as much estrogen as the trailer seems to.

  9. No, it means he's...http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-toy-discussion/27457054d1406813732-sdcc-2014-waiting-hts-thread-barney-stinson-legendary.jpg

  10. Demanding me to point out to you a previous reply made directly to you and which you acknowledge by reply to it only damages your position that I am being unreasonable, bias, selective or illogical. It also furthers my position that your reading comprehension is for some reason lacking in this situation. I have responded repeatedly to questions, for clarification or different points and you continually reassert that I have not said anything or I have said the opposite. I have reread the conversation several times and found fault in myself for initially responding with vitriol and vulgarity.

I feel the need to investigate this situation and determine the truth of the matter. However, since my co-Moderator is directly involved in this discussion, in the interest of fairness towards Torch, I have decided to go with an impartial third party and have handed things over to Mr. Ted Wells. You're welcome.

  11. Finally got to see it this morning. The verdict?

  12. Boston doesn't do much for me, but at least they're better than Guns N' Roses. I do like one part of one song a lot. Forget offhand which one. Y'know, the one that starts off with that big prog rock intro before...well, before it goes into the main part of the song and ends up sounding like all the other Boston songs.

  13.

I'm also tired of the "best friend finds out your super identity and is pissed off" cliche.

I'm with you. I was able to make myself swallow it (barely) with this show, but I had barely watched this and they went and did it again over on Flash. *sigh*

For me, the costume just doesn't look like Daredevil. The colours look more like a ST:TNG uniform, though that's not the main problem. Tha main problem is that it looks as cheap and patch-worked as the black outfit, without any of the sleekness. Alright, I lied, the colour is a big part of the problem, too. Too much black. As I said, it's just not sleek enough and there's no flow to it. As much as it pains me to say anything nice about the Affleck film, at least at this point, I believe it actually has the far superior costume. (Not perfect, mind you, but better).

  14. The guy that plays DD says he wants to do a Spider-Man team-up. Nice thought, but aside from Marvel not likely being eager to put Spidey on the small screen any time soon, the fact that they want to go with "young Spidey" would make it hard to do the particular idea he had in mind (which was doing the time Spidey pretended to be DD in court, so Murdock could represent him).

Anywho, I'm very much looking forward to Season Two, with my only disappointment of the first season being...

...that damn costume. Seeing it in action was even worse than the stills that had been released (leaked? I forget). Hopefully, next season will bring some tweaks.

I'm also hoping that they can make me actually like Jessica Jones with her show, which is something that never happened with the books I read that she was in. Mostly, it was New Avengers. Maybe she was more likeable in the earlier stuff.

  15. Yeah, that's the part I don't really get. His "origin" was already seen. We've seen that he's been raised (and that he's been trained) by his bounty hunter daddy. We've seen his "turning point" when said daddy lost his head in front of him. I'm fully on board for a Boba Fett movie in general, but the devil's in the details.

  16. The Vikings broke my heart in the 2nd round. I was hoping they'd take Waynes in the first round - that is, unless they took one of the top receivers. Pairing another talented WR with Wallace, with the development of Bridgewater and the return of Peterson had the potential to be a very good offense. So, after they improved the defense in the 1st, I had a fleeting hope that ASU's Jaelen Strong - the only player in the draft I really liked and a perfect compliment to Wallace's speed - would somehow drop to the Vikings.

So, when I got into the car to drive home yesterday at the start of the 2nd round and he was still there, I started to hope a bit more. Each pick was agonizing, especially when teams that I knew needed a WR started trading up in front of the Vikings. Finally, I started getting pretty excited when their pick was coming up and he was still on the board. A guy I really like, a guy that many experts thought would go in the 1st, was sitting there for my favorite team and they happened to be pretty thin at his position....and so they took a linebacker. *sigh*

Now, by the end of the season, I may be praising what a stud Eric Kendricks is - I have no idea. Right now, I just know that after my former favorite Viking beat his kid, was suspended, demanded a trade, and now seems to think that all of that has earned him a new contract - well, it'd be nice to have somebody on my team I could really get excited about.

  17. I ended up not having time to do it, but all week long I wanted to start a thread asking if people really cared about boxing. It never gets talked about here, until now, it seems. I never heard about boxing on sports talk radio until this past week. In every day life, I've never had a friend who payed attention to it. I've never know of any co-workers to do so, either, until recently. There are a few people at my job that mentioned they were going to watch this fight. Of those people, only one actually follows the sport in any way - making him, as far as I know, the first actual "boxing fan" I've known...ever.
