  1. http://io9.com/375484/bill-and-teds-completely-unnecessary-remake

Another classic science fiction franchise is getting the "reboot" treatment, but its biggest star could be even harder to recast than William Shatner's Captain Kirk. A new Bill And Ted movie finally got the green light — probably from the same people at MGM who thought that War Games sequel was a good idea — and it could show up in the next couple of years. The biggest question: where are they going to find an actor who can bring the Keanu? Click through for details.

As in the original, Bill and Ted are high-school students who are in danger of flunking unless they create a "full presentation" on the subjects of all their classes. They travel through time and meet the historical figures they're supposed to have learned about, including Gandhi and Calamity Jane this time around.

The main differences are that the phone Bill and Ted use to travel through time isn't an old-school phone booth, but something "funkier." Their band is called the Atomic Gorillas instead of the Wyld Stallyns. The script is supposedly full of "hip" pop culture references for today's kids, like Bill and Ted worrying they're going to miss The Dark Knight. No clue whether there's a George Carlin character this time around, or who might play him. There are a lot fewer "Whoas."

I was a lot more excited about a new Bill And Ted when I briefly thought it would feature Keanu and Alex back in their original roles, playing middle-aged stoners who have made a mess of their lives in spite of all Carlin's predictions.

If we have to have a remake, maybe it can do something new and interesting with the concept — like instead of being the saviors of a future world, Bill and Ted are actually patsies, given a time machine by someone who wants to wreck history but doesn't want his/her fingerprints all over it. And then Bill and Ted have to undo all the damage they've done. That would be totally excellent.

Supposedly Keanu has been trying to get a third Adventure/Journey off the ground for years but now that he has turned 77 years old, the studio feels a remake may be the better option. Who's hyped?

  2. I didn't like Quinto either. But not due to his "looks" which were fine.

Spock was just written stupidly in that movie, a point driven home by the ridiculous love story between Spock and Uhura. Quinto was fine as an actor, his character was just way to arrogant and egotistical, and didn't seem like Spock at all.

  3. THIS IS RIPLEY 2.0

(or should be anyway if she can act like an action hero, I mean she doesn't have to be Oscar worthy.)

No way, bro. I agree that chick is homely. So homely I'm not even including the pic in this quote.

When one wants to re-cast Ripley, the only name one should consider is Evangeline Lilly.

  4. I don'y mind the existence of this franchise, I'm just concerned with the excessive amount of Terminators being sent back in time. What are we up to now, 12 and counting? There should have only being 2 Terminators in this show, superbabe Glue, and evil Bruce Campbell. Yeah, I'm still demanding Campbell be casted as a Terminator!

  5. Again, we don't need an origin. Between Returns going over some of it, Donner's films and Smallville, we just don't need it. Superman is the icon for superheroes in general, EVERYONE knows his origin.

I still don't understand this line of thought. Why tell any story if we all "know it"? Everyone knows Batmans origin, Spideys origin. Everyone knows Anakins origin, Bonds origin, Bilbos origin. Everyone knows John Connor defeats Skynet. Why make movies about any of that ****?

I only reason I can gather from the complaints about another origin tale is because it would detract from the super-action. We all want to see Supes fight stuff for the whole 2 hours. And so do I. But with yet ANOTHER new cast, I doubt most people will care about the characters without the required setup. Think about it, if The Dark Knight was the first new Batman movie, without the setup of Begins, it wouldn't be as interesting.

Warner Brothers wanting to "start over" obviously means we will be seeing the origin again, otherwise they would have let Singer film his proposed Braniac/Bizarro sequel.

  6. You're probably right about Doomsdays lameness. I just like the idea of a superhero dying at the end of his film series and the world coming to terms with what they took for granted and now what they've lost. It's never been seen before and could be the thing that raises the "superbar", like Dark Knight. Or something.

I dunno, but Superman is the only character this could work for. Obviously Batman and Spider-Man could never die. Admittedly, I've never actually read the comic, but Doomsdays story couldn't be worse than the way Singer completely blew the death gimmick in Returns.

    Plus it's a cool fight. :D

  7. Whats the point of rebooting if you're not going to tell the origin story? That doesn't make sense to me.

If you don't want to sit through Supes origin again and just want to watch him fight Braniac, wouldn't it be better to continue with Singers series?

Anyway, my idea is for a "standard trilogy"

Film one with Lex and the origin.

Film two with Braniac and Bizarro/and/or Super Robots.

Film three with Doomsday and Death of Superman

  8. Ledgers death helped-- but at its core TDK was simply just a better movie than Returns. It can't be attributed to one simple aspect or formula, which is something execs never seem to get. It's like Star Trek-- it set a benchmark that they foolishly tried to emulate to try and cash in and it never worked

Oh absolultely! The Dark Knight ****s all over Superman Returns and engages the full flush! That doesn't make it a bad movie...

And yet Iron Man, a "standard" lighthearted comic movie continues to rake in the dollars for Marvel. What happens when a "serious" Superman fails? A ranking Warner exec decides to go back to making campy movies? It seems like DC Comics don't even know what the **** they're writing if they are seriously considering "dark movies" for their characters.

At the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with continuing action-filled Supes movies (which is what most people want) using Donners original story as the "Dr No" origin tale. Everyones familiar with Supes origin anyways. Even your grandmother. Ask her! She ****ing knows!

A reboot will generate 200 million... barely. Even less is Superman is a teenage 90210 drop-out. Which he probably will be.

They'd be better off sticking with Singer.

  9. I really don't think measuring Dark Knights success against Superman Returns is really fair. The only reason TDK has dones so well is because of Ledgers hyped death, not because The Joker is some sort of Osama Bin Laden reminder. The Joker will always remain "cool" in the publics mind, simply because of his unlimited acting posibilities, whereas Lex Luthor will always be a bald nerd, no matter how deep they try to make his character.

I still think that the reasons they've dumped Singers super-sequel for an all-or-nothing reboot are all wrong and will reflect this at the box office. But on the plus side, hopefully Warner Brothers can get over thier Christopher Reeve obsession, which is really what hurts Superman Returns, and accept somebody different in the role.

Superman is NOT Christopher Reeve. Vice versa maybe...

  10. I didn't like Superman Returns either. The story was ok, my beef was mainly with the terrible cast. But Superman Returns was hardly the worst superhero movie, in terms of quality or box office revenue, of this decade. Batman obviously needed rebooting after the insulting Schumacher travesties, but Donners original Supes is still the best comic-book movie ever (IM-and manys-O ;) ). 21st century Warner Brothers was hoping it would be the basis for a James Bond-style continuing franchise, which is the reason why they greenlit Singers sequel in the first place. The only improvement a reboot could make on the 1978 original would be the super-effects.

But I willing to sell out and give it a cinema viewing anyway.

  11. So because Superman Returns didn't generate 500 million he must be rebooted? What a load of ****.

And whats with all the Lex Luthor hate? The guy is critical to Supes character. Theres no reason why Luthor and Braniac/whoever can't exist in the same movie. Coexistence worked fine for Superman II.

This reboot idea sounds like a complete waste of time, unless it contains ASSLOADS of superaction. And if this "Dark Superman" bull**** is true, it MUST culminate in a trilogy ending Death Of Superman movie, featuring Doomsday. Supes famous death is the only way they will come close to Dark Knight box office territory.

But you know what really pisses me off? Rumor is that Singers 'Superman: The Man Of Steel' was supposed to feature Braniac AND Bizarro together! My favorite Superman villain, Bizarro, gets screwed AGAIN! I'm sick of it man!:no:

  12. I love Floyd but they are really hit & miss. Their songs are either breathtakingly awesome, or diabolically ****. I can't find much middle ground with them.

Just recently bought Remember That Night: David Gilmour Versus The Royal Albert Hall DVD... Two versions of Echoes! Count em! Two!!!:thumbsup:

  13. Rock face. He's just way too funny to be heel. Corporate Rock worked because he had Vince and Co behind him making him more prickish, but I just coudn't dislike the 2003 Rock, which is weird cos EVERYONE wanted him to go heel but nobody booed him, maybe cos he was wrestling Goldberg.

    Head or Moppy

  14. Paul Heyman, he took hardcore to next 10 levels. Eric did well by creating a company that almost beat WWF, and produced one the best and most successful stoylines in wrestling history, but Heyman pretty much invented a whole new genre.
