  1. Spammy, Regina is sorta close to the US boarder. It's summers are most likely no different than high state cities. For contrast Anchorage is much higher and we still have what can be called summer (we have three seasons; summer, bitch it's miserable and then everything looks like shit). Our summer is like other places lasting around May to September, but the best months are just June and July, after that all bets are off to what could happen and when. Temperatures range from high 50s to high 70s, daylight feels constant but the sun does set eventually, if the day isn't completely overcast to OMG is it nuclear winter? levels then the sky is usually photo perfect. 50s to Alaskans is no coat having days. 70s is OMG we're melting get out the sprinkler.

In Short: Regina, Swachatwonton likely enjoys "summer" weather too.

  2. Driver, I think it's universally accepted the prequels were bad. I think how bad and why is the reason the discussion continually lives. It's like being a Monday Morning Quarterback after watching your team perform horribly the day before, win or loss. Nothing you say really matters, it just allows you to fold that suck into your fandom and move on to Cincinnati.

  3. Caring how much skin is exposed then requiring less skin to be exposed and/or caring how skin gets covered and with what unrelated to environmental concerns are empty resolutions to empty arguments. All of which avoid confronting why the person thinks too much skin is wrong and tackling that social issue.

This isn't to say I let my children walk around naked, wear speedos or dress like Madonna (not the Madonna, obviously conservatives would favor that dress code). I hold to a balance of environmental practicality, social decorum and fashionable relevance.

eg. My 10yo daughter likes Daisy Dukes, they are back in fashion. I allowed her to have some as long as they actually covered her butt and she wore them when it was actually warm outside. She also wants a bikini, but I didn't allow her to have one she adored as the boy shorts don't fit right on her and the top may as well not even be worn. We found a different swimsuit with the boy shorts she likes, but these fit right and with a tank like top which gives her the fashionable look she was going for. Obiviously swimwear isn't a school thing, just an example of balancing fashion with function and decorum.

  4. Probably partly fueled by my insufferable optimism, I still feel TPM is the best prequel both technically and as a Star Wars story. Which isn't to say it's without faults. I think the prequels got worse with each film. I don't have an issue with the overall story arc, for me the issues arise with what gets focused on, what doesn't and then how it is; Galactic Politics feel like the A Story while Emotional Issues feel like the tacked on B Story. I feel George's desire to make his galaxy bigger drowned out the reason why he wanted to be in that galaxy, which then tragically causes a disconnect to the characters*. I suppose it's ironic that the more we see of the galaxy the less we feel like we're in that galaxy.

In short: I feel the Prequels problems can be summed up in one scene, which is Jedi Lava Hopping Battle.

*eg. Pod Racing. The scene plays by making the win of the race the drama. That's hollow drama. The scene, while also perhaps too long, could have focused on Anakin's innate talent with the Force. This is implied, but it's the B story to the race. Reforming that scene to focus on Anakin doing things like using the Force to pull out of reach detached wires back into place instead of if he'll win the race still dazzles us with action but makes it a character scene not a false drama event.

  5. In short? Tomorrowland sells you a utopian future all the while undermining their sale with dystopian ideals. That can be a valid transposition, but here it's professed in a voice uncertain of what it is actually saying. The result is a pretty film absent of depth. Worth a ticket price, unlikely worthy of franchise fandom as there isn't much need to return to this playground.

  6. Haha. Surely. But yeah I don't buy Tomorrowland was the factor, but probably was a factor. It is in the same basic boat as Tron being that it is a property Disney has to sell people on rather than just sell stuff to people.

  7. The film had some issues. I don't think any were so horrible they sucked, but that is subjective. It just squeaked into the green with it's domestic gross but it's take overseas more than doubled, all total around $400 million. It's hard to put a nose up at that take.

The nail for Tron is likely due to Disney attempting to push it as The Next Big "Boy" Franchise. The merchandise crossover push was obvious. The cartoon was decent, the games medicore, toys were toys, the theme park event was meh. I dunno the sales/viewing numbers but Disney quickly started messing with the cartoon's timeslot, as a gamer no one I know bought the games, the toys in my locale were clearanced fairly quickly and the theme park connection was retooled for Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter. All that points to a lack of connection to their desired market.

Now factor in the continued success of their superhero brand and that during Tron's push to franchise status Disney bought Star Wars. These franchises essentially sell themselves, Tron demands effort to obtain a foothold. Straw camel back.

  8. Top Gear noticed a bunch of things like this on one of their specials. The Nazi had researchers all over it is likely the atrocities weren't bragged about while they were being granted access to religious and historical texts. These relations likely spin out to what we now see, then perception filtered thru holes in education has no reason to confront the idea.

Side Note: You are probably aware The Red Baron was long before the Nazi party so that's a sermon for the choir. However as far as I've read he wasn't a mustache twirler. He's a war hero, granted one man's hero is another's villain and granted using a war hero to sell pizza is odd, but placing him with the others here... eh. "One of these things is not like the others. One of thess things is not the same." ;-)

  9. Unless that is a situation whereby a foreigner or descendant is using a word or name from their culture which just so happens to have unfortunate meaning whether by spelling or pronunciation in this culture then ^those are cases of abusing the process, imo.

  10. I have found that regardless of the direction taken to naming your child everyone else, like in all things, has an opinion.

As such naming a child Anakin could be seen as like naming your child Heinrich Himmler. And yeah, I always thought it was daft that Leia and Han had a child and named him Anakin too.

Names, regardless of origin, have meaning; crafted by the world, the namer and eventually by the named.

So making a name your own is absolutely possible and can be an important part of coming to terms with yourself, regardless of your given name. Whether you disregard the name's implications, accept the thought process that gave you that name /or if you change your name you are making valid resolutions to this small part of coming to know yourself.

Coming back to me, as a parent and my particular process; I did my best to not lay additional weight to my childrens' names. Doesn't mean my way was right. Doesn't mean the names I chose have no weight. Doesn't mean my kids like their names (Ryan joking or not adores his brother Dylan James name and Kylie wishes she was named whatever she is into on any given day). What it means is names are incredibly personal, so unless someone intentionally abuses the process (eg. Assclown Jones) then whatever...

  11. Something I've been pondering given this film's success, yet another feather in Miller's cap, just how good could Miller's Justice League have been? If not for the KO punch of a writer's strike, plus TDK success and Nolan's insistences his Batman was solo then the JLA was happening. I have a feeling Miller's approach would have been Donner/Timm/Dini in style, by which I specifically mean having a great ability to balance the absurd with the reality. I have not read a synopsis of that or anything so I dunno what could have been, fun to think about however.

  12. My wife and I stuck to what I guess is traditional/common names. We gravitated to names with etymology based in my British history. My wife just wanted names she liked, I liked names with some tie to something I liked or history etc.

    Ryan Andrew

    Kylie Elizabeth

    Dylan James

    Wyatt Oliver

All very common and popular, oh well lol, but they were chosen for specific reasons; eg. Dylan James was taken from Dylan Thomas the Welsh Poet and James Cook the British Explorer. And likely other sources, but those at the top of the list.

Afterthought: The second letter Y thing, that was unintentional for the first two. Then with the third I joked the new baby might wonder Y he was different if we didn't follow the trend.

  13. I saw the opening, it was not enough to condemn, but I didn't feel the need to hang around. I will likely give it a couple day binge watch when it hits Netflix as I do like the cast.

  14. I'm with Destiny. To have outrage over this property at this point feels false. Rants about book to show changes have the ring of honest points however, I can feel those as a fan who pleads for Snyder to let Superman smile.

Side Note: Speaking of rapey fiction, I was watching the Reeve and Kidder Supermans with my teen son. He chuckled a few times because the looks and situations sometimes felt awkward. He ranted, "Look Supes is all human now. So he's like do me Lois and she's like uhh. And he's like I didn't lose my powers for nothing, woman." He then went on a rant about Superman being a bully to the diner guy after he got his powers back, so I told him to shut up and grounded him.

  15. Well in the eyes of a Star Trek hero it is murder, not that this is Trek of course. It is an unnatural, willful alteration of the timeline that wiped out and changed untold lives and that should be something the show has to deal with. Good intentions and all that doesn't change the result. As for Reverse-Flash never existing now, well the show can ask; Just how fast is he? It could be a fun twist on Marty McFly's photograph. Also if he can run that fast and is now desperately inacting a plan to restore the past, couldn't he now be... dun dun dun... The Hero? Could a show down with Reverse-Flash vs Reverse-Flash & Flash(es) happen now?

Still haven't seen more that three episodes of this series, but my circle (mostly my son) can't stop his mouth from blabbing. Which is why I'm here. lol

  16. Whether Brady is exonerated due to idiots running the investigation or whether due to it actually being circumstantial, whether he stays at 4 games or reduced whatever (I suppose history shows that Goodell is dumb enough to double jeporady style extend a suspension after further review; see Rice)... an interesting hypothetical has presented itself; Brady's value. With a year under his belt young Jimmy Garoppolo is seemingly poised to play during Brady's absense. No one thought a player like Brady, at the time, could unseat a pro bowler like Bledsoe. Not saying Garoppolo has that level talent inside and we just haven't seen it, but anyone can have a hot hand for a stretch.

If Garoppolo plays well, where's that leave Brady? Fine?

Going on it'd be four games in would Belichick have the balls to flip a trade? Yes?

Would Kraft approve? This is the wildcard.

Would there be a market? Yes?

Would it be bigger as a next offseason move? Yes?

Would the Patriots be dumb? Remember they've lost two picks now.

Belichick is known for dealing with a player a year too soon rather than hold on to them. It's as hard a reality about Belichick as the correct view or perception of his constant mustache twirling. Brady is an old horse now, coming of an MVP Super Bowl without the suspension I couldn't even fathom a deal. However...

  17. Belichick supports the proposals as far as I understand, as I only played in school and have since just watched or played Madden I'll take his suppport as a sign it is what it is.

    ;-)
